Deb,
it was the dietitian at the hospital who gave me the "recipe for the braise steak, baked beans and stock. As long as there are no lumps and it is thin enough to go up a straw, anything should be fine UNLESS your surgeon has told you different, thin stick to their guidelines.

Sorry to butt in Pyretta but can we really blend soup like that with meat in it for our liquid stage?. I understand that the bar mix would be swirling along and to add stock to make it runny..... I am day 5 and only dared have approx 100mls of protein shake this morning (and i thought i hated opti..lol) So, hubby got me some thin chicken noodle and spring vege soup, can i blend the chicken noodle and water that down too??? Pls excuse my ignorance.
Thanks

| Thanks heaps once again Pyretta! To the lady asking about the public system.... which state are you referring to? I am going in as a public patient only have to pay for the consult fees. I had to wait a year to get on the list. Was trying to use my super to pay for it but got such a run around by incompetent doctors and their staff, til I got the good news that I was now on the free list. |

Cherry there is a thread on here: what to stock up with pre op. http://au.messages.yahoo.com/lifestyle/lap-band/25 55/ It has a lot of items listed for the liquids stage as well.

Hi Pyretta,
Your info has been most valuable. There wasn't a lot of information given due my visits to the specialist and dietician. Their pamphlets have very minimal detail on them. So I have been googling like mad to find out what I need post op. It's great reading everyone's tips! |

Miss,
It sounds like you need more protein. Try an egg flip or the recipe my dietitian gave me for protein during the liquid phase: Take a can of steak and veggies or one of those chunky soups and a can of baked beans and blend them until they are smooth. Thin them down with beef stock to a runny consistency and then warm it in the microwave 1/2 a cup at a time to "eat". You can do this with just the baked beans as well.

Please help. It's day 5 post op and I'm starving. I have developed a headache and an aching stomach. I don't feel like it is from the surgery or wind pain as those have subsided. This is different
I am having about 2 sustagans, 1 up and go, some chicken broth and a choc milk each day plus water. My stomach just growls. Is this normal?

Tanya,
Make an appointment with your GP if you are concerned but I'd start having some yakult or similar every day to try and help restore your body's balance.

Hi Ladies
I was banded on Friday, so today is day 5, I have had diarrhoea for the past couple of days. Anyone else experience this? Just worried if I lose everything I am eating (which isn't a lot) I will get run down fast. Tanya |

No worries :)
The optifast is a good idea if you can handle the taste because its complete in terms of dietary needs. But its definately not a must. Personally one more of those shakes and i think my guts would have resigned and started looking for another employer...
Just dont forget your multivitamin and you'll be right :)) Enjoy!! |

Also up and go yum.
Will get my hubby down to the shops today for some,

Hi Mel,
I am having pretty much the same thing every day - may not be your thing but if it helps then cool :)
Breakfast:
Soluble Panadeine
Supradyn
Up & Go 250ml (many flavours available which is helpful)
Morning Tea:
Glass of Low Fat Chocolate Milk
Lunch:
Half can of soup - strained (i have bought about 8 different varieties)
Afternoon Tea:
More Panadiene - More Milk
Dinner:
Low fat custard & low fat ice cream.
I have water buy my side constantly to sip on. Banana smoothies are a good idea to for between meals IF you feel you need something.
Hope this is in someway useful. Sure beats Optifast!

J.Bone
Make sure you are taking only small sips of the fluids and make sure they are thin at this stage. I was on clear fluids for 4 days. As for the wind pain. Gentile strolls will help move it along with peppermint tea or degas tablets you can get from the supermarket or chemist.
Take your painkillers regularly every 4 hours, don't wait for the pain to hit. It should pass in the next few days but if you are concerned about the amount of pain you are in then please contact your surgeon or the hospital you were banded at.

a bit of pain is ok but remember only fluids and slowly, just sips and go to the chemist and get some no-gas tabs to fix the wind pain, hope this helps.
stick with it

Was 97k pre optipast and 95 pre-op. Today im 92.9k. How did everyone else go with the weight loss in terms of time. i Know its only day three, im just curious as to what to expect. On average anyway. Thanks |

Angel,
the rule of thumb is 2 weeks liquid 2 weeks mushie but it depends on what YOUR surgical team requires.
If you are unsure, ring them.

Actually Wjana if you follow this link and then bookmark it you will always be able to find the June thread easily.
You may need to look carefully for any gaps Mr Yahoo puts in and delete them for it to work

Hi Wjana, just look for it on the list and post a message like this one. It is being posted on fairly regularily so should be not too hard to find.
If you tell me when you were banded I can add your name to the list of June bandits for you. |
