SCORE!
i thought i share my first satisfactory story since banding and eating mushies.
I wanted to eat fish curry, it got so bad that i thought about it all day while at work. Want and hunger are completely different thing i know. Anyway, moving on along when i finished work i went to Coles and bought me some groceries.
I made fish curries, the curry is obviously texturised like a thick soup and i diced the fish and then i mashed it into the curry so its pretty mush up no chewing needed. I still try to savor the taste though.
At the end of the first little bowl that i had, i wanted more. This is my head hunger sending alarms. I checked my stomach and i don't feel any discomfort so i thought well... here goes second helping. All the while thinking that yes i'm stupid and i probably shouldn't need the second helping but i did anyway because i can't help myself...
LOOOO and behold, second bowl... one spoon, two spoon. END of story. I feel full and filling.
I was a bit sad that i couldn't finish my delicious fish curry but at the same time happy that the band had indeed made me feel full enough to be able to stop.
p.s when i meant bowl, i meant those little rice bowl cup not the standard size bowl. I could not eat a standard size bowl anymore even if i try. It was very satisfying to be able to stop. My spoon had also been downsized to teaspoon size, with a tiny cute "cake" decoration on top of the spoon. Tiny spoon makes it feel like you're eating a lot... though not really. |

Found some great products for this stage -
Heinz Stewed Fruit (near the jellies in Woolworths). 2 x 100g packs (great for on your desk at work) 68 calories, 0.1g fat and only 14.8g carbs!.
Continental Cupofsoups Vegifuls - yes soup but thick soup and good for work - Potato and Leek. |

Hi Fairysteps.
Yes that is what i was told to do..
1 week on liquid then 3 weeks on mushy, then do the post op 4 weeks fill which will be in next next tuesday.
I haven't had any trouble with eating at all... this is assuming no weight was getting lost in the process because i have no trouble consuming food. Like i only lost 2kg since then.. sorta... but at least i'm not constantly gaining weight every week (which i was before).
i do consume considerably a lot less than what i usually eat but no trouble of them going down the channel... should i be worried? LOL |

i was wondering if tofu is considered mushies?
I honestly can't bring myself to eat blended tofu because they're already so mushy? And yet i LOVE tofu, all kinds of them.
They practically mush in your mouth or is just that me trying to fool myself? LOL the line gets blurred sometimes.
Well if i am allowed to eat tofu... a good way to eat it that i found is to steam it.
Put it on a plate, dress with sesame oil, fish oil and some *** anese shoyu sauce. Then i ate it with a soft boiled egg.
It sounded like a lot of food, but its not big in portion. The flavour on the other hand is yummy.
Mmmmmm why do they censored ja pan? |

I also ate cottage cheese (I like the flavoured gerkhin one!) - it never got stuck and I could have a tub of it spread over the whole day.
Soft boiled or poached eggs are good for breakfast if breakfast is able to be made to your liking/preference.
A small can of tuna or salmon with light mayo mixed into it. Smoked salmon if you like that too. Soups if you're not too sick of them yet!
Let me keep thinking....

| Travelling Mushies? I am getting banded tomorrow and in 3 weeks time I am in NZ for a quick 5 day trip. I was planning on taking my optifast stuff and shaker but as I will be travelling - any recommendations on other foods? I was thinking avocados mashed, or banana mashed etc any other thoughts? |

Hi Everyone,
Just had a rather yummy mushie meal and thought I'd share it!
From Woolies/Coles I bought a 4 pack of these vegetarian chick pea patties (sold in the cold food section with all the soy cheese and vego 'meats'). Warmed it up in the microvawe, drizzles on sweet chilli sauce, mashed soft avocado, extra light sour cream. Lightly mush it up with a fork - delicious! And a good hit of protein to keep the hunger pains at bay!!

Ness,
Maybe towards the end of the mushies stage. Really you shouldn't though. Maybe ask one of your team.

Thanks Mack, So better cut out the yoghurt. Any suggestions on best to drink? Should I just stick with protein shake and stock? Guess I'm in the wrong Forum, should be Straw. Thanks to Mack and pyrenna. I should have started asking questions here as soon as I got home.
Cheers

At this early stage you should be on the straw diet Tyreena. If you can't sip it through a thin straw then you can't have it.
The hospital and the surgeon should have given you post operative instructions.
This is a great place to ask becasue you are talking to people with real life experince especially Pyretta who is a legend!
Good luck, Mack |

Thanks Pyretta,
It has calmed down somewhat. I found a recipe book on the internet and have purchased it but it wont come thru for a few days. The problem has eased as you said. I have been so determine to do the right thing. Dietician and GP said I could puree some veges and beans and chicken and make sure it is very thin, that way I would be getting nutrition. Anyhow feeling better now though a bit weak and unsure of what to eat.
So we shouldn't puree anything at moment and just drink clear stock? I've bought some V8 tomato juice and prune juice, made some stock and have xantrax in morning. I'm also going to have borocca - but leave it for a few hours to get rid of bubbles. Is plain low fat yoghurt OK?
Thanks again for your reply, really appreciate it.
Tyreena xx |
