yummm...works a treat Linda :) thanx
Funny thing is, i have never been a salt person, don't cook with salt, don't eat salty things but with such an overload of sweet liquids i've become a salty food person :) |

| Day 9 post op - Feeling 90% now and slept part of the night on my stomach again. Boy that's the key to a good nights sleep, just being able to sleep as you normally would. When i sleep on my back i snore like a freight train and i feel like i can't breath properly. When i sleep on my stomach or side, no snoring. Twisted to the side to pick up my youngest today, ouch! Felt like i tore my newly healed skin, didn't but it didn't feel so great. A little reminder that just because i feel good, i should still take it easy. My youngest is nearly 3 and so i don't have to pick him up much, don't know how people with younger babies do it. Still not hungry, still crave salt but i have that mastered now with misso soup, vegemite and anchovette.About to book myself a beauty treatment for valentines day and will have my first date with the hubby in ages, might get the inlaws to babysit; or my oldest.yay! That will be nice. You know the funny thing is that we used to boycott boutique restaurants because they charge you 25 dollars for 1/2 a teaspoon of food and you'd go to macca's on the way home because you were hungry. :) Don't have to worry about that any more. Ha! Nic S |

Hi Rose
It would depend on how soon it was after your surgery. The seatbelt gets a bit uncomfortable if its in the first couple of weeks. Most of us on here are Australian and the normal thing is 2 weeks of fluids and then 2 weeks of mushies before going on to normal food. I guess it could be hard to get your requirements on the road if it was within this 4 week period.
Cheers

Hi Rose, like Nic I was pretty good by 1 week post op and perfect by 2! Others were sore for a bit longer... Are you going on holiday? Would love to keep hearing from you - would be like having an American pen pal! Good luck

I am collecting information to be banded. My husband and I are planning a 22-hour trip in the car to Florida on March 9th. Would I be better off waiting until I get back to have the procedure? Or would I be recovered enough to go in a month or so?
I have 100 lb to lose, and have all the other stuff: diabetes, high BP, sleep apnea, etc. etc.
I would appreciate the advice.

Hey nic, I have some miso soup powder that satisfies those savoury cravings. I got it at the coles asian section. It's in a box like a can of sardines and is called shimaya. You just add to boiling water and keep adding to taste. It doesn't take much. Comes with 5 sachets in the packet.

| Day 7 post op - Feeling mostly normal, a little sheepish with the occassional bouts of nausea. Very happy on my liquids, had some red rooster gravy (no potato of course) for savory flavor. Have found it useful to have a little lick of vegemite, mustard or egg mayo if i get sick of sweet stuff. No where near ready for anything more solid, wouldn't be game to wreck anything. There is no way that i'm going to risk blowing this opportunity or wasting the 13.500 that i paid to go through this! :) If i do anything that jeapordizes even 1% effectiveness i would never forgive myself. I'm tough, 2 weeks on liquids is nothing. I must say though, i do get worn out by the end of the day. Have lost 6kg since Jan 1 (first day of optifast). You gotta be happy with that. Nothing could have made me loose 6kg in 2 weeks if i wasn't banded, nothing short of a dire illness. :) |

| So this is day 6 post op. Ended up at the emergency room at the Holy Spirit Northside last night. I was feeling nauseous to the point of dry reaching once and though it was best not to mess around, i also had a sore neck and my sister in law being the super paranoid teacher that she is, was fearful of a potential blood clot. She told me of a friend of hers who suddenly complained to her husband that her leg was hurting and then a short time later was dead! Yead, thanks for that, nothing like striking fear into someone to get them to go to the emergency room. Went to the private hospital emergency room rather than the RBH public Emergency room, the difference being that in the public one you have the privelidge of waiting for 3 to 6 hours with a vast amount of "fascinating" people and with the private emergency room you are seen within 1/2 an hour and wait in a very nice waiting room and pay 255 for the privelidge. In my book it was worth every penny. The verdict was that it's probably not anything to worry about, the anethetist does funny things with your neck in surgery, might have injured it on some muscular level and neck pain can make some people nauseous. Apparently a blood clot is something that is very easy to pick generally, like an elephant stomping on your head; you can't miss it. :) So, back home i trundle with my sore neck, some anti nausea pills in hand. Apart from that, feeling well. Brad goes back to work tomorrow and i'm left alone with my toddler but he has said that he'll stay at home for as long as he needs to. |

Hey Nic
WOW Day 5 already! Well that has flown...LOL for me anyway! ( yes your right Op day is day one )
Good to hear you are surviving it all.
Can I suggest taking a Kelp tablet each day ( about $9 from a Healthfood shop) My bowel movements were never regular before the op ( good ole slow metabolism) then striaght after I wasn't too worried at first as we take in so little food...so little is expected back out...BUT by the time I went onto Mushies with the added carbs ( potato, pasta etc ) I was a mess and no amount of prune or pear juice or even the fact I was ODing on Benefibre helped me any. I was sooo constipated! I ended up with some other tablets from the Healthfood store...simply called 'Lower Bowel Stimulants' to get me back on track. Now I take a Kelp tablet daily and I'm as regular as clockwork. They have been great and I highly recommend them now before you get...perhaps too blocked up!

| Well, I'm on my 5th day post op. I believe the hospital considers the day of the op to be day 1. Feeling better every day but feel a little trashed as the day draws to a close. Taking Benefibre and prune juice to assist in preventing constipation but as yet this has not been successful. I'm not too concerned i suppose, not uncomfortable and i'm not eating solid food so i wouldn't be "producing." :) Had some wind shoot up into my neck which wa s just a barrel of monkeys. SO i still have a sore neck but those good old di-gesics are a wonderful thing, those combined with my heat pack are just the ticket to what ails ya. I have a couple of customers coming over to have a peak at some veils this morning so i have to get out of sick person mode and pull myself together - fully dressed, make-up on.Had a craving for something savory last night and after looking madly for Vegemite, which seems to have been consumed already; i had 1/2 teaspoon of my fave mayo. It's an egg and vinager mayo so it's not one of those sickly sweet stuff. Did the job wonderfully. I just scooped out 1/2 teaspoon and dipped my finger in bit by bit to make it last as long as possible. I get to take the dressings off my wounds today which will be nice, they have been itching (healing) so i'm getting ready to go. Daily diet consists of tea, multivitamin, benefibr e,drinking yogurt, prune juice, water and frozen yogurt. Not actually hungry in any way, just consuming food because i know i have too. Isn't that just bliss to say?! :) I'M NOT HUNGRY!!!!! I know this won't last forever but i'm lapping it up while it does. Had a good nights sleep so if you can do that, you can cope with anything. Hi Nic... I also felt that "upper" wind pain and walked around and drank peppermint tea and scoffed Degas tabs... maybe the latter worked, not sure about the rest..it wasn't great but didn't last very long - as the swelling decreased, so the feeling went away I presume. I didn't have nausea associated with it but did vomit early in the piece.... noice! Good luck - maybe that new treadmill will help!!

Hi Brian, Yup, won't forget the peppermint tea. Haven't been able to burp yet but the other seems to be working just fine. :) Pity, i was gearing up to be a burping champ but as yet, i am burpless. :)
Kathy, will chat soon. Feeling quite ok this morning which i think is miraculous for 72 hours post op. Still a little bit ginger around the place but doing well. Brad is still looking after Tim, i'm telling you; i don't know how women cope with small children if they don't have hubby there to play mum. Last night i slept for the first time on my side and it was BLISS! :) Cushioned with pillows but got the best night sleep in about 4 nights.

Hi Nic
I have a question for you? Do you suffer with gas really badly for a few days after a fill?
I do and I just wanted to know if others do too....?
It's stinking hot here at the moment, I'm so glad that I have lost some weight otherwise I'd be raining right now!!!
Hope your night is going well
Take care

| ha! Jane, you are a kak! :) I am sitting here not being able to bring up a burp and it hurts like hell and if it doesnt come up in time i get horribly nauseous. It lasts for about 30 seconds, i sweat, shake, fluff and then fall asleep. I'm getting more vain by the moment thinking about that treadmill, because this discomfort has got to be good for something. I don't know if that even makes sence! :)Nic :) |

I'm pleased to say that all my wind seems to be gone and i'm feeling really quite good. Those fantastic healing gene's my mother gave me. :) My drugs are bombing me out a bit and i'm not fond of sleeping on my back, have tried sleeping on my side and am not real impressed. :) I'm patient, that will come. My treadmill arrives end of next week so i'm looking forward to that. Nic |
