| That would depend on wether you're american or aussie red. I'm not sure which you are but if you're not aussie, we have a different system here and if you're aussie you either upgrade you're insurance or swap to another one at the appropriate level who does insure for this kind of surgery and wait for the prescribed 12 months. OR get your money to pay for the surgery out of your super or spouse's super (which i did). It's not difficult thankfully and i'm so thrilled i did it. Some people have taken out personal loans too. So basically where there's a will there's a way generally speaking. Hope this is helpful. Cheers, Nic |

| I was wondering how did you pay for your surgery, and do you know of any funding organization that can help when your insurance won't cover it. |

I know it well Mel, used to be like that and then decided that my time on this planet was far to precious to ruin with all that stressing and thinking, learnt to let it go and give it to God. He does ask to cast all your trouble on Him and he will carry the burden for you so that's what i do. I guess it doesn't actually offer any help if you're not in a relationship with Him. But it's all i got for ya, sorry; not much help am i? :)
Do you need another holiday? :) hehehehehe. Any excuse hey? :) |

Nic, things are ok. I am always a bit on the stressed side of life... it is my nature unfortunately to over think things until they become a problem for me. I am still trying to learn how to control my out of control thinking... deep breaths and count to ten.
I always admire your attitude to life, you have a great way of looking at things in such a positive light. You are right of course, Education is light.

Awe, thanks hon. :) I felt fantastic! The way i figure it is i'd rather tell them and hopefully they can find a way like i did, then not tell them and let them sink further in their misery. I can't bare the suffering of others! It makes me crazy! Education is light, ignorance is darkness, i'd rather someone give me information/knowledge and let me find some more if it's good for me than let me stay in miserable darkness. I didn't get to talk to her anyway, not sure what i would have said if i had. I couldn't care less who knows that i'm banded, it's just not on my radar of important things in life; you know me. :)
Hope all is good for you right now pet.

Nic... she is the one I wouldn't tell, the old school friend that is. She is the one most likely to blab. What a shame for her though, it is hard isn't it. I feel for people when I see them and feel like saying to them "you can help yourself"... then I think, maybe they can't maybe they are unable to pay for the help, who knows?
I am just so pleased that you enjoyed yourself and also that you looked so gorgeous and happy in the photos.

I didn't mention it Doreen because i didn't really have a weight problem at high school. I wasn't a skinny girl but i certainly didnt' have a genuine weight problem. Everyone knows with me it's certainly no secret though. :) I've blabbed to complete strangers in the hopes of encourageing them to think about doing something for themselves. It was great though, had my hair and make up done and i was ready to go. Got some great pictures. Funnily enough, that girl who was so brutal to all the fat kids for all those years who is now fat herself looked miserable and i knew exsactly what she was feeling and i felt sad for her. I didn't expect to feel sad for her but i did. I didnt get to talk to her but i have seen her in all the photo's from the night and it was a hard night for her i can tell.

Hi All, I'm baaaack!
Life happens you know. Went to my 20 year high school reunion last night which was amazing. The great thing is that nobody recognised me, lots of "wow, you look fantastic!" which is always good for the ego.....not that my ego needs any help. :) So i have listed a photo from last night in my profile, hopefully it shows up. I didn't actually have much of a weight problem at school yet, just a little chubby but a VERY "homely" looking child. So, all else is good, the weight is shifting gram by gram which i knew it would at this late stage in the game. The hubby is taking me OS for our 10th anniversary next year, dinner on the eiffel tower in Paris on the actual day but my main goal is to climb the steps of Santorini, 595 of them i believe (or near enough) in celebration of good health so this last 10kg had better be gone by then or i won't be able to haul my giant butt up those steps! :) So, really; unless i want to humiliate myself i have no choice but to shed that last 10 before we leave in June 09. :)
Cheers, Nic |

Hi Jen
I sounds like you & I are similar, I'm four kilos off my goal, happy & looking good yet I'm wondering if I would be happier & healthier 10 kilos less although I know in my heart considering I have chronic illnesses I would probably be healthier at this weight.
Also I think this weight would be easier to maintain for the rest of my life than ten kilos lighter. I know heaps of bandsters who get to their goal weight & then put on weight because it's too difficult to maintain. When I read this it frequently reminds me of Oprah who appeared on camera at 68 kilos pulling a little trolley loaded with bricks (or something, can't remember) equivalent to the weight she lost. Since then she has openly confessed many times on her show that she was only 68 kilos for one day & how stupid she was for thinking she'd be able to maintain that weight without any difficulty.
Kirstie Alley also appeared on Oprah's show in a bikini when she nearly reached her goal weight. In May's Woman's Day there are photos of her with the weight back on, she's lost her contract with Jenny Craig & she's trying to lose weight again because she is developing her own weight-loss brand & has given herself a year to get fit in time for it's launch in 2009. She says she wants to create something that will help millions of people end the seemingly never-ending fatty roller-coaster ride - obviously she still hasn't learnt DIETS DON'T WORK.
Keep in mind these millionairesses can afford full time chefs/personal trainers which should make it easier for them not to even have to plan or cook their meals.
I've decided I'm going to talk to both my banding surgeon & my wonderful G.P. and see what their opinions are about me maintaining this weight or losing more.
Nic thanks for your words of wisdom, I can always rely on you to be able to put into words the things I struggle with but can't actually articulate to others or even myself what those things are :)

Hi Nic....did you say, shopping, clothes...well YES....can't help it...so many sales, so little time. I have a part time job and it allows me to buy more clothes than usual. I proudly wore a pair of RED jeans to a bandit doo today...just love them....(14's) - oh...just love the stretchy fabrics.
What you said about your fill, reflux etc...has really made me think. I have my Specialist appt this tues and have to make a decision. Yes I could stay at this weight and be happy, the big question is would i be happier or healthier at least 10kgs less. I find the early dinner thing, not always possible, and when i'm invited out to a meal...some people like to eat late...so these things/social life/ can end up being stressful for me, and not the pleasurable experience it should have been.
I appreciate you tossing this aroudn with me.
Otherwise, i am really good, very happy in my life, confident etc...i love the benefits I reap regularly at being at a healthier weight.
take care chicken.
love

Hi Jen, I think we have similar amounts of fill now. I've lost count! But i know i don't have much. I just got sick of haveing to have dinner rediculously early and still suffering. I did this for QUALITY of life remember? :) Hubby told me of something he'd seen just recently and he was all worried. If you have reflux you're chances of getting a cancer in that area is greatly enlarged. So that freaked him out and i wasn't having a good time anyway so i decided to sort us both out i'd get that little bit taken out. For the first week on hols i went nuts (nuts by my standards anyway, probably not nuts by anyone else's standards :)
Now i'm back to my old self, on my old food and excersize schedule. I'm so glad i got that fill taken out though, sure i have to rely more on myself than the band. But i'm not about to have the band do all the work for me and not learn anything at all myself. I know a lady who had done that and now because of severe reflux her doctor has taken all the fill out and because she only ate junk because that's all she could get past her band because she ran it SO tight, she's piling it back on because she let the band do all the work for her and didn't learn anything at all about diet or excersize or self control. I feel sad for her but i could see it coming a mile off.
Anyhoo....how's my wee Jen been going apart from your reflux. Boy it's slow going at this end of the scale isn't it? :) But to be fair, we knew it would be i suppose. Just happy to be at this end of the scale! Hope you're well and having fun. Buying new clothes for summer? :)

Morning Nice...long time no say HI! Just wading through your thread to catchup...OS or TT...hmmm....breadth of mind or thinth of tum...lol.
Having a few surgeries could be less stressful on your bod...i do think , from a friends :-} experience, that maybe do your boobs last....they can change shape after tt's.
Do you mind telling me how much fill you have now. We are a similar weight, even tho you are taller...and I have about 5mls...and i can def. eat too much so think i need some fill, but but...i get reflux too..and have to restrict dinner to a modest...very ... meal...otherwise i'm in trouble for the night. SO naturally i am afraid of the reflux worsening if i have some more fill put in.
Have a lovely sunday. Jen xx |

I got 1/4 ml taken out the other day with George. I got the reflux back and couldn't eat pumpkin and a few other vege's and i thought "i did this for quality of life!" So...out it came. :) I have to make more of an effort rather than let the band do all the work now but that's ok. I'd rather than than being woken up every night and having to eat at 5pm and nothing after that. Nope, not this little black duck.
Since hubby has promised to take me OS for our 10th anniversary next year i have decided that as a celebration of good health i'm going to climb the steps of Santorini. :) I am fully aware that since there are well over 500 steps it will take me quite some time but i don't care. It will be sort of an ode to my new life. :) Can't wait. Mad considering there's donkeys and a cable car but nope, i'm going to do it! :) |

| I guess it does make sence though. The less fat you have in the area that needs the surgery the flatter the result will be. |

| Thanks Nic. Bill also told me and I saw it first hand with my friend who exercises and lift weights every days that the less fat on your body inside the skin speeds up the recovery period. My friend was amazed at how quickly she recovered from the abdominiplasty that Bill did. He didn't mention to us that it also helped with better results although I am impressed with her results anyway but that's good to know. |

| I had heard that he didn't but it was he who mentioned it. I found a website which i will have to track down again which had 60 or so before and after pictures which were just spectacular. He did say also that the less fat left on the body inside the skin, the better result but those results were just unbelievable. I don't think i could keep myself from looking in the mirror for the first couple of months! :) |

Hi Nic
I'm glad I'm not in your shoes having to make that decision, not an easy one that's for sure.
Do you have any website links or any other information about torso lift that you haven't read on the Plastic Surgery threads on here? If you do, could you put the links here or anything else email me please, I'd really appreciate it. I haven't Googled torso lift so if you have it might save me having to wade through all the American sites even though I do request an Australian Google search I still get other countries. Does Bill do torso lift?
Although I do think a torso lift would be too much for my weak body (chronic illnesses) to handle but then again so would multiple surgeries one after another. I don't know what to do because removing excess skin would certainly help the chronic illnesses. |
