Hey Nic (and everyone),

Very quiet in this little thread. Thought I would pop in and see how you were. You have a fill in a few days? All the best for that!

I am steady again at 91kg. Just want to be in the 80's! But happy enough. I am not eating the best of foods so I can't complain, but I need to try and eat better for my health (and also the scales going down!).

Take care lovey.

You know i worry about that for my bestest friend. Her mum has diabetes and it effects her so terribly. I worry that my best pal will get it too. :(

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
Yup, mines 70kg too. I would like to be 69 for just a day to say that i've been in the 60's. My hubby can't bare the thought of a truely skinny woman to cuddle up to so 70 will be it for me. Which is mentally as far as i want to go anyway. My boobies are starting to get a little smaller, sending me into a blind panic. I have NEVER been a member of the itty bitty titty comittee and i don't intend to start now! :) Oh well, there's always implants. :) Glad you're feeling better now though Jane. :)

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
Metformin is for diabetes - didn't get banded soon enough to escape my mother's genes!! Without that tablet sticking around in my poor little tummy, I have a new lease on life... feel SO much better all the time. Might actually try to eat sensibly now - felt like I could really only eat rubbish as that found its way around the tablet!!

What is your goal weight? Mine is around 70 - see what I look like - might get millions of wrinkles on my face - haven't got many now (51yo)- helped along by the adipose tissue in my face!!! I have another 20 to go dammit!

Have a good day Nic.

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
Hi again Nic - a whole year without a fill is amazing. Carla from here in Bunbury got to goal on her first fill of 5ml in a 10ml band. Saw her today and she is looking great and full of fascinating information!!

I have belatedly discovered that my large long lasting Metformin tablet stays in my stomach all day... which blocks my little stomach outlet - so I have stopped taking it for 2 days... BLISS!!! Eating way too much now - time for a wee fill again I think. Had quite a bit taken out because of reflux. Nice to talk again Nic...always love your thread.

Not only thrilled but honored Jane!! :) Great to hear from you again, long time no speak! :) yes, we have had chats about unmentionables already. :) I have to say my weight loss has come to a screaming halt too but i'm feeling hungrier latley so me thinks it's finally time for a little tweak. I've done pretty well though and gone a full year without a fill. You can't complain about that can you? :)
Cheers, Nic

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
Fab Nic!! We have had discussions about our unmentionables before!! Even though I have come a bit of a halt in the losing weight stakes my smaller knckers are a bit of a thrill (still love the beige or white granny ones from Target best of all!!). I actually think of you when I see my smaller black ones!! I'm sure you'll be thrilled by that!

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
I won't bore everyone else with my endless new discoveries and NSV's on the NSV thread. Here on my own thread is the place for that. Today while folding the socks and jocks/knickers i looked at my new "unmentionables" and thought, "wow it's almost like there's another bird in the house and i'm folding her laundry." I bought a few 12-14 pairs of knickers and i looked at them and didn't realise how small they are and wonder how my backside fits in them. :) The brain doesn't catch up with the body does it? :) But, fit they do. All these little fun things. Going to my first checkup with my surgeon in 10 days, haven't seen him in a year so i'm sure he'll be almost as pleased as i am. Hopefully this time next year i'll have all my plastic surgery done and i will be the most "normal" i have ever been in my adult life.
Hooray for us!!!

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
Yup, me too Jen. I'm glad it's just not all in my head. It's nice to hear someone else say it tastes cleaner. :)

The band is all about quality of life for me too. That's why i did this. I talked to a man the other day who DESPARATELY needed to think about WLS, he was such a lovely man but he was turned off being banded because some fool had bragged that they melt down mars bars because they can't eat much so it may as well taste great! Great, the man might die because this person probably has their band too tight to eat anything decent! Fantastic role model huh? Anyway, off my soapbox i get. :) Reminds me to be much more careful about how i talk about my band anyway.

Hi Nic

My friend was in her early 60's when the cancer was found. I don't know if there is a family history there.

I agree with you, Organic food sorta tastes, cleaner to me.

I think it is great that you forget your banded, as I don't want the band to rule my life, I want to live with it, not for it to dominate me.

I think you are managing your eating very well. Don't be scared, be proud Nic.

warmest wishes.

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
That's so sad Jen:( . Unfortunatly sometimes all the organic food in the world won't help when you have it running through your family history which sometimes people do. I know you didn't mention wether your friend had it in the past generations of her family but that's what often happens, organic food or not. I'm a HUGE organic food fan myself. I ate only organic food when i was pregnant and my little boy only eats organic food and he's rarely, rarely sick. Come to mention it, we as a family are very rarely sick. I think we're sick about 1 to 4 of my sister in laws family. They seem to get sick all the time. Organic food to me just tastes better, particularly the meat and dairy.

The eating like a normal person is a bit scary actually,i'm finding that i'm more tempted to eat bad foods because there is no imediate consequence. Pre-Band i would have a bad day and put on the weight the very next week and not be able to get it off. Now, i go through easter and maybe eat a few too many easter eggs and might put on a Kg. i know that a couple of walks and bad food ban will shed that kg in a heartbeat. :) Being fat there was more punnishment involved. :) It's fun but scary. It means i will have to be extra vigilant as sometimes i forget i'm banded, actually quite often i forget. :)
Anyway, it's all good. :) You have a good time with the kids and the bickies over easter. :)

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
Hi Nic.

Sorry I was so brief before....Madonna asked where your thread was so I was bu m ping it for her.

I am doing the family gathering thing, but on the frid morning, good friday morn tea...so the ones with kiddlies can catchup with theirs on Sunday. So I'm learning the joys of biscuit making at the mo.

Sounds like your weekend will be full, I like to get together with family at times like these, cos ma and pa was that way, so most of my generation seem to be the same too.

I loved what you wrote before...that you can eat like a normal person, that is worth it's weight in gold isn't it.

So once the weight is in check you can really concentrate on more healthy foods if you want. I am trying to go gluten free, no i'm not coeliac, but I am aware that gluten is not good for me, and am having more organic food than I used to. However a good friend had an organic fruit and veg store for years and unfortunately found that she had quite an aggressive cancer, so now she eats all sorts of foods and none of it organic. The choices we make.
I reckon it doesn't hurt to be safe.

You take care Nic, have a great one with your loved ones.

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
Personal NSV's for today: 1. My back fat roll is now gone! Yes, it's true; i now have an uncorrigated back!!!

2. I looked in the mirror post shower and although i saw a sharpei looking back at me (but not as cute), i saw a small sharpei who will be having plastic surgery rather than a bloody great puffing, panting St Bernard! I saw one of those people in those plastic surgery before shows, all saggy and baggy but SMALL and when they have had their surgery they look great! So these two NSV's are great but i have noticed something (which
i was already warned about) a little bit challenging. It's a fun problem to have though in a way. I can now eat like normal people, which is scary because there are no imediate consequences. I eat muck for 2 days, put on a kg, excersize for 2 more days and eat only good food and the kg is gone! The only problem with this theory is that heart disease (which i was trying to avoid with WLS) is going to be the big consequence. I know how my son lives now except he just doesn't add the KG. Which is scary because all that muck he eats and doesn't put on any weight means that he's going to be the skinniest body in the morgue. My uncle was the same, naturally slim, could eat whatever he wanted AND DID, and died of a massive heart attack quite young. Interesting predicament to have though. :)

Hi Nic

My first husband (irish) was very agrumentative and could literally talk the legs off the table, and I would often have to say "just because your argumentative skills are better, doesn't meant to say you're right"... oh the skills one must learn to survive.

I'm a pacifist by nature, peace love and harmony and all of that.

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
I totally agree Jen, i don't need everyone else to know i'm right when i know it myself. :) My hubby and your brother would have good chats together, they sound like the same person. The hubby is SCARY smart, he has the intellect to do whatever he wanted, Doctor, Lawyer.......not a job on this earth that he's not smart enough to do and yup, that makes him a smarty pants when argueing his case. His dad taught him how to do that. I try to turn things around on him occassionally and use one of his own sayings, "well, you're intitled to your opinion; even if you are wrong." :) There's not alot you can say to that even if you are super smart. :)

Re:NIC S LAP BAND JOURNEY Reply to this message
he he....if i had a disagreement with my brother, i would just run away, because his intellect and argumentative skills are better than mine, so it's safer to keep it sweet all the time. These skills don't mean he is always right.

When you know you are right, you don't have to prove it to people, just knowing is enough.

You know the strange thing? My brother is nice and easy to get on with and i love him heaps, we've never had a disagreement. But because of that, our relationship is very 2 dimentional, all nicey, nicey ALL the time. My sister and are have to work on our relationship ALOT more and that makes it richer in a way.
