Hey Shan
How's the neck feeling?
I was reading back a few posts about you having a blood test. Did that turn out ok?
I was interested because i do feel a bit low in energy. I've been trying to make sure I keep up my multivitamin and iron. I had slacked off there for a bit. Since I hardly have any red meat these days, I'm wondering if my iron is a bit low.

Don't worry Shan. I have got a tummy bug brewing!!
My kids have complained of tummy pains all week. But nothing unusual happening in the toilet...no rushing back and forth. This morning though I went 3 times in the space of 3 hours. So got some Imodium from pharmacy and boy did they bind me up!!! I hate taking those because they usually make you feel worse but I couldn't keep running to the toilet at work.
it meant I didn't eat much: just soup for lunch and steamed veges for dinner.
My tummy hadn't been hurting at all but now it's gurgling away!! Fun!!
So hope your neck gets better. Does a heat pack help? Probably too sore for a massage! magnesium can help with muscle spasms.
I Don't like my chances on a visit from hubby. He is into trap shooting ETC and where he is working (Griffith) there is competition on next week and Olympians, Mark Diamond and Russell Marks will be there, so I don't think he'd want to miss that.
I did contemplate going down with the kids but the airfares would have cost us $1400 to arrive Saturday night and leave Monday lunch time!!!
All that money for a day and a half!! regional flights are expensive.
SO take it easy , catch up on some movies. Hopefully you'll be up and moving around soon.

I know Shan, we are all plodding along with not much to write about!!!.
My husband is away for work for 3 weeks. I think he is regretting agreeing to it. We have never been apart for so long!!! I was sort of looking forward to it but tonight is our first night without him and it feels strange. We have been apart 1 or 2 nights but never this long!
I bet anything he'll come back halfway through for a weekend visit.
So my plan is to knuckle down and for me and the kids to eat healthy and use my new elliptical trainer. My kids love it. My son works up quite a sweat.
I've had a horrible sore throat so haven't felt like doing much of anything and happily not hungry either. But I think i've had my body weight in Butter Menthols in the last 3 days!!
It's funny after my last fill 2 weeks ago I seemed to lose 2 kgs in 2 days. Then the scales went back up again so maybe that low reading was an anomaly.
I found after my first fill it took a couple of weeks for the weight loss to kick off again. I'm expecting the same this time too.
My next appointment is in 2 weeks but i might postpone it so there is 6 weeks between visits instead of 4. Plus my husband is back then and I don't have to worry about taking kids along or leaving them at school till late.
I can't stop shopping for new clothes. It's starting to get a little cooler here in Brisbane at long last. My winter clothes from last year are a little baggy!!!
I hope everyone is doing well.
Would love to hear a quick update from everyone.
Start weight 106
DOB 102.9
current weight 90.2
total loss 15.8kg |

Hi All,
Just a quick note to say I had my 3rd fill today. I had 6 mils before fill and he added 1 mil but water was taking too long to go down so he took about .2ml out and all seems good so far. I will stick to liquids and mushies for a couple of days, but had half a bowl of chilli con carne meat about an hour ago and it went down fine and i'm still full.
Hope you are all well.

Hi, I went for my second fill yesterday, have 4 ml now, since banding 12th Nov. Spoke to Dr Monk, was advised hair loss can continue for another 2 - 3 months. It's called telogen effluvium where surgery stress makes most of the hairs finish their cycle at the same time. You won't go bald and hair will return to same thickness. I am taking Iron Melts, Berocca and 1 Swiss womens Ultivite Multivitamin daily. Since banding have lost 8 kilos, going to gym 2 - 3 times p/week and treadmill. Keeping positive by reading everyone's post.
Cheers huddydi |

Yeah it's important to take omega 3 to prevent hair loss. If you have trouble swallowing those large tablets, have them later inthe day when you are less restricted and wash them down with warm tea.
Hair loss is common after general anaesthesia anyway. |

I am also losing quite a bit of hair and also my hair has gone from feeling like silk to feeling like straw.
I've started taking Blackmores Bio Zinc on Saturday (this is the skin and hair vitamin)and ordered Nioxin Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment from eBay USA, its much cheaper than Australian stores and Australian eBay, this is hair treatment for thinning hair.
I also ordered a huge tub of salon only moisture repair hair treatment to try and make my hair softer so I will do that once a week also. They should all arrive early next week so hopefully will make a difference soon.
I have so much fuzzy hair all around the edges and back of my hair, i even had to cut a fringe in since I just had all this fluff at the front and I can see lots of short broken bits all over in between the long ones. I've also noticed that a lot of the hair falling still has roots attached.
Hope this helps and your hair loss will stop.

Grace,
hey mate, yeah it was a bit of a shock to see it all in the bathroom, it was heaps and heaps and people were telling me it was normal, i spoke to the nurse at my surgery and she said its common for bandsters. She told me to change my multi vitamins so im now taking swisse for women and fish oil tablets. I also went and had blood taken today to see if i was lacking anything nutritionally
Hope that helps mate

I picked up on your comment about hair loss. I thought it was just me. My hair loss has been really bad and I did not associate it with my band. Can anyone enlighten me, am I going bald????

| I think I have or getting very close too restriction too. Since my last fill I have had two pb's. Weird thing was it was after very small amount of soft food. The band seems to change all the time, some times in the day I struggle to get bites in and have to be very careful to chew and eat slowly and other times it seems to go down easier. I am happy with the restriction but not sure when you know when to stop getting fills still a few weeks till my next appointment so I might see how I am feeling then. Having to be more careful with food choices though and a bit scared about eating in public |

Hi Shan,
Congratulations! I think restriction feels a little different for each person and can change with the weather, but it sounds like you have it.
I can only eat small meals and don't get very hungry in the morning or between them. I don't get that spasm thingy people talk about but I do PB a few times per week, its not a straining thing for me thought, if something feels stuck I simply go to the bathroom , tilt my head forward and open my mouth and it usually comes out without straining or anything. It is becoming less as I learn more about what I can eat and pay more attention to eating slowly and chewing. Yesterday it took me 2 hours to eat a small bowl of risotto for lunch lol. I definitely suffer from first bite syndrome (which is why I get things stuck so often.)I can still eat almost anything if i go slow and chew it well.
I usually have a small mushy breakfast or a small glass of fresh OJ, and then 3 small meals over the rest of the day, usually about a cup full though, so hopefully I can get this amount down to the half cup after my next fill on the 12th.
I hope your restriction will continue.

P1xie,
Hi mate, that is a bit of a concern hey! I would definately be speaking to your surgeon about it. How come you have not been offered the services of a dietician. If you cant see one through the place where you were banded then you should definately ask your GP for a referral to one or like me (im four hours away from my sirgeon and dietician) i have bought so many books and reference guides to help me. Fantastic site to go to is Foodtalk and they have all sorts of books and stuff. Chin up mate, remember the reason you started this journey in the first place and use your willpower...you know......the one we ALL say that we dont have.....
Good luck hun......we are here if you need us
Losing it: Thanks heaps will check that out!!!
Have a fantastic day guys.....
luv

Congratulations Debra that's a great weight loss in such a short time.
I definately do get full earlier - before I had huge capacity but I sure can eat still. I think I will have a good talk to the surgeon, Thursday week - I really am wondering if there is something a miss with my band. After all it's nearly full and I've never had any problems with blockages, etc. Have a great weekend! P1xie xo |

Wow 6 pieces of toast in one go!! That's a lot!
I'm lucky to eat one!
My eating regime is abit unhealthy at the moment.
After my first fill:
I would have a glass of water for breakfast.
i wasn't usually hungry until 11am: then Id have a tuna to go pack ( mushy tuna with 3 crackers) or one tuna roll.. Then maybe some fruit or small yoghrt about 3-4pm. Then dinner entree size plate of food. maybe cup of tea or coffee later in the night.
but in the last few weeks I was having a small hot cross bun for brekkie, sushi 1 roll for lunch, dinner but I was snacking on junk after that.
Since my second fill I am so wary about eating proper food. Though last night we out for Thai and I'm amazed how much I ate: more than 1 cup/entree plate. So I don't have a set meal plan: i just eat when I'm hungry. But sometimes I eat lots of snack/junk.
Since my fill I am scared to eat! I had a peach and some of it got stuck! But it went down and didn't come up.
I think I lost 1.5 kg since Tuesday. maybe my scales are broken!

For Jenny:
PB - Productive Burp - This is a 'bandster' term that refers to the regurgitation that most bandsters will experience at least once in their bandster lives when we've eaten more or larger pieces than can be passed through the stoma (small entrance to the stomach). Since the food has not been digested, there is no odour, stomach acid, or retching involved but there may be a varying degree of phlegm that accompanies it. PB episodes may last anywhere from 1 minute to two hours, depending on the individual and circumstances. After a PB episode, under most circumstances, it's best to refrain from eating at that meal and let the stoma rest. If it is happening constantly it may be a good idea to try going on fluids for 24 hours to see if the inflammation goes down. If not, you must see your doctor. |
