Hi Grace,
I'm in Adelaide with Prof Toouli - I have every faith in his team. Let me know what your surgeon says - good luck.
slender2b
He's on conference at the moment so saw his specialist on his team.

Thanks Slender2b
I think I will contact my surgeon tomorrow just to be on the safe side. Would you mind me asking who was your surgeon? I am in Brisbane and went to Blair Bowden. All the best. Grace

Hi Everyone,
Went to the surgeons rooms today re the back & rib pain when I breathe - he was concerned that I'm the third person to report these symptoms recently so he wants it all checked out - nothing went wrong with the op. The other 2 people didn't have anything dramatic result - so he has ordered some tests - had blood taken, and need to have a catscan done tomorrow. He would have admitted me if he was really worried but it needs checking out anyway. I'm now on painkillers again.
I'm glad I went and that they are checking it all out.
He said it's nothing to do with the lungs but possibly to do with the gullet. I had the discomfort from the morning after the op - now 7 days.
Thanks to everyone for your good wishes and advice.
Grace hope you are OK - let me know how you progress.

It's offical I have become a cheap drunk. :)

Hubby and I went out for pizza tonight and all I could manage was one and a half slices of pizza and one glass of red wine went to my head.

I am really going to have to watch myself at the office xmas party next Friday :)

Hi Bandits, been a while since I posted, but am regularly reading about everyones progress - it has really helped me to "bench mark" what is normal! Thank you all so much for your candour and generosity in sharing.
I was done on 7th Nov (The Avenue, Melb). I had 1.5mL added to the band today. like others, very nervous, but was easy!!!! just on liquids for tonight, and slow reintroduciton of foods over the next couple of days!
while a couple of days off the full month, here are my stats...
Height: 175cm
start weight (pre opti):116.5kg
today:106.4kg
Cracked the 10kg mark - YAY!!
Thanks so much again for all the positive energy that comes down the line! you are all amazing!

Hi Slender2b
You now have me worried, I was banded on Fri 28/11 and also had a hernia removed. I have recovered pretty quickly however I also suffer with pain around my ribs and mid back when I deep breathe, cough, hiccup. I haven't told my doctor, maybe I should. Please let me know how you get on. All the best, hope all is well. Grace

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Hi all, I read someone's post the other day which said something about posting our progress after a month. Well, I was banded on 4th of November (Bunbury, WA) so today is my 1 month weigh in :o)

Start weight (24/10) 131.8
Date of Band (04/11) 126.7 (5.1 loss on opti)
today's weigh(04/12) 118.1
total loss of 13.7kg

I've not gone onto "real" food yet, still on mushies, so I hope once I'm on to real food the weight keeps coming off as it has been. I feel fantastic, still a long way to go, but what a great start!! I have my first fill tomorrow, a little (very) nervous about it, but I'm sure I'll be fine.

Hope all you other November bandits are doing well too.

Cheers,
Renae

P1xie,
I have had two fills under the imaging machine, and they find my port that way, I hate needles but absolutely have to watch the screen and see the needle go in! It is so weird!
I saw Liz last week, and she is feeling better, I will drop in and see her next wednesday again!
So glad to hear your unstapling :-) went well!!

Slender 2B - My thoughts and prayers are with you - I hope you start feeling better in the near future!
Thanks for thinking of me BB - the staples were nothing - no pain what so ever! I actually feel so much better now that the staples are out - I have a little bit more flexability. I was thinking of you in the middle of the night - sorry if I am being a bit vague here (I may have missed an episode) but have they found your port??? Have you seen Liz, as yet? If so, how is she?
Phoebe - go girl! Good on you with the weight loss. I'm also noticing a difference with my clothes - and clothes that I purchased just recently too, which is a bit of a spu!!! I know you will think I am crazy for buying clothes recently, however, I really had to buy a couple of pieces just to get me through Chrissie but already they are too big!!! Gee whiz - what a problem!!! Before my clothes were always getting too tight!
Have a great day everyone!
Love, P1xie xo
PS - Slender - please let us know how you get on!

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Slender2b I'm sure everything will be ok, it's prob due to gas and just your body trying to recover, hopefully the surgeon puts your mind at ease this afternoon - goodluck. I just got home from having my first fill. Went well he put in just over 1ml which I'm really hoping will make a difference as I have been felling like I could eat anything! The process went fine just layed on the bed with a pillow under my back, little sting from the needle. he needed to poke around a bit as said my port is a bit lateral but all over in 5 minutes, just needed to hold a situp position while he did it. Back on fluids for 2 days now. Unfortunately as they are so busy and closing for xmas can't go back for another fill until Jan 15th so hope this will help until then. Weight loss has slowed now I am on solids which I was a bit worried about but Dr said today I will be building muscle and cause I am noticng my clothes being much loser not to worry at all about the weight. Hope everyone else is recovering well :)

Hi everyone,
I was banded last Wed 26 Nov and have had discomfort ever since when I deep breathe around my mid back and ribs it hurts. I thought it was because I've been leaning on pillows, or gas buildup, or because I had a double op for hernia also - but now I'm getting worried.
My surgeons rooms want me back this afternoon for an assessment - please send me good vibes as I don't want to be readmitted. I've got to stay calm!

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
It's amazing to notice the differences so far since being banded. This morning I had my first solid meal Turkish toast with vegemite. I usually scoff the whole thing down in 10 minutes. Today it took me 45 minutes to eat half of it and I threw the rest out.

This mornign I put on a top I bought in the USA back in June that was a bit tight around the stomach. I put it on this morning and there is plenty of room. I am also wearign pants that I bought a while ago that wre always a bit too tight and I could never do up the top button. Today the top button is done up and I can take them on and off without undoing them.

I would love to hear the differences that others are noticing.

P1xie, I am sure the staples coming out will be fine, this discomfort we go through of needles and such will be a distant memory when were partying it up on our girls shopping weekend!
I have drank twice post op, it went stragiht to my legs both times! I had weak bourbon and had no trouble with it other than I had to sit down lol

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Welcome Vixson,
I have so been missing my alcohol - can't wait to hop into it! I was very dismayed to read on the '10 biggest WLS mistakes' thread about alcohol - that you should not drink it at all, for the first year!!!
However, in Prof Paul O'brien's book (and he was the guy who basically I believe created the band) you may have a glass of wine every day!!! Wine being a liquid - I'm sure you could have at least one within the first couple of weeks of your op. However, I have read that it really goes to your head!! Be careful girls!
My 38 staples are coming out tomorrow - not looking forward to it - some people say it 'really hurts', others say 'it's nothing'! I'm confused! AGAIN!!!
Cheers everyone, P1xie xo

Hi Vixson and welcome, congrats on your op and I hope all is going well for you.

With the alcohol, be aware of the energy value, alcohol is high in empty calories.

I've also drank alcohol, prob not supposed to due to the calories BUT... I've had a glass of champagne, bit worried about the bubbles but went down nicely and also shared a bottle of wine with my hubby on Sunday night, again no issues.
