the band shouldn't slip if you are not having solids before you should. if you give it time to heal and scar tissue to form to hold band in place. That's why the doctors recommend fluids then mushies for so long.

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
No it's not like vomit in that the food is not digested. It can just be thick mucousy saliva. It can be uncomfortable because the oesophagus spasms/contracts. The books suggest if you eat out to make sure you know where the toilets are!! (Is that like knowing where the fire exits are?)If you have a look at the thread "welcome all new forum users" there is a good explanation there. trudy williams pocket guide book suggests always carrying a ziplock bag, a disposable coffe cup with lid, tough tissues and/or refresher towels to freshen yourself up after a blockage or regurgitation! But if you eat slowly, chew carefully, concentrate onwhat your eating you may never have one. Fingers crossed hasn't happened to me yet. But have had a blockage. Not fun!!!

Shan,

I am also newly banded, and I have exactly the same questions about the whole BPing thing. I hope to god its not the whole vomit thing, that would be soooo embarrassing in public. Can anyone answer this for us.

Thanks
Lyn

Dr still managed to do the procedure through key hole surgery - let's say though that I have a few more "holes" (8) in me than perhaps the norm. I'm a tough old bird though - scars are good for character building. I'm sure someone told me that once.
Hi Deb - glad to hear you are still doing well - talk soon.
And to everybody else out there - congrats on your efforts.

Not only can't I type..I can't count either. :)

Just noticed I put my total loss as 8 kilos...it should be 14 kilos. Fancy ripping myself of for 6 kilos. Every little bit helps

My God everyone is doing so well! Congratulations to all! Keep up the good work!
It's only been two weeks since my op and I have got more and more cheeky with my eating - I don't seem to be having any problems getting food down. I've had a few celebrations over the past week and have easily managed cake, lollies, sakata biscuits and wine. Is this normal? I know I am being naughty and from today I plan to get back onto the straight and narrow. I've actually put on half a kg so I really need to get my act together.
Nette welcome! Your op sounds similar to mine. Did your surgeon manage to band you via key hole or did it end up being an open op?
Have a great week everybody.
Love,
P1xie xo

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Hi Everyone,

Hope all my fellow Novemberites are travellign well and those kilos are droppign off like flies :) Here are my monthly stats

Height 153cm

112.0(10/10/08) Pre-Opti.
106.0(07/11/08) Date of Banding.
98.0 (09/12/08) Today.
Loss 8.0 kilos.

I had my first PB the other day. Not a pleasant experience but it taught me a valuable lesson and showed that the band is working. After that I went back on mushies for a while. The thought of eating solids again makes me a bit nervous after that :)

Hi Everyone,

Bit late but here are my monthly stats.

Height 167cm

115 Pre Opti
110 Bate of Banding (3/11/08)
106 Today
Loss 9kg

Had first fill yesterday. Wasn't bad at all (even though the Dr had to poke around a bit with the needle to find the port access). My Dr advised me that he had 2.5ml in the band from when it was put in. I was sure there was nothing in there as I haven't had any restrictions. Hopefully the 3ml he put in yesterday will give me more restrictions.

Hi Nette,
Like you I wondered if I was too old to have this proceedure done. I am 59 years old and was banded on the 12th Nov. I have lost 10 kilo to date and am so happy, wonder why I didn't do this sooner. I have progressed onto more normal food and at present I seem to not have a problem with anything I eat. I have my 1st fill on Friday so will have to wait and see what happens from there.
Good luck with your journey and congratulations on taking the first step.

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Hi needtobe slim: A PB is a productive burp: if you eat too much or a piece that is too large to fit thru the stoma it will be regurgitated. There is usually no smell or acid because it hasn't been digested yet but may have phlegm. If you eat something and it gets stuck I started to feel lightheaded, felt like I couldn't beathe. Don't panic: Keep soda water on hand. It will either create enough bubbles to stir around the block and if the pieces are small enough (just too much at once) it will pass thru. Or if the piece is large the bubbles will help to bring it up. Start slowly. I was bored with my soups & yoghurt & Tony Ferguson shakes I nibbled on Chicken Crimpy biscuits. If you bite off a little tiny bit really grind it between your teeth and suck on it, the biscuit dissolves in your mouth. I even had some cream cheese on it and french onion dip.I had two biscuits instead of the usual 20 and it satisfied my craving.

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Hi Everybody
I'm a first timer here - I was banded in Brisbane on the 21st November at Sunnybank Private Hospital. Had a great doctor although I was in theatre for over 4 hours. Kindly presented the surgeon with heaps of adhesions and scar tissue from previous ops over the years. I'm 60 years old and was worried at first that I may have been too old for this procedure. Anyway it's all over and I'm looking forward to an extra long life now.
Recovery has been a little uncomfortable at times. Due to start the mushies this week. Sick of the fluids. Start weight was 135kgs. Have lost 9kgs since the op. So I am happy. Am reading these messages every day - it keeps me motivated. So many of you are having some amazing results. Keep up the good work.

Go to the front page and try to click on page 2 or back a few pages depending how old the thread is. Otherwise you can google the title and lapband forum yahoo...that usually works for me! When you find what you are looking for save it to your favourites then you will not lose it! If you can't find it maybe ask what thread you are looking for and someone else can find it and bump it to the front for you...hope that makes sense LOL, Bron

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Hey BB,
Very busy weekend - my little man turns 5 today! So we had his b'day party on Saturday morning and then I had my work Christmas party yesterday. Of course I can only manage a couple of hours at a time and then I sleep for the rest of the day. I have more people coming over tonight to celebrate his b'day and then I am looking forward to having the house to myself again and some real r and r tomorrow.
Apparently, my operation went for five and half to six hours, but I am recovering well. The last time I weighed myself I had lost 13 kilos, so very happy with that. But I have to tell you I have been naughtily sucking on jelly lollies over the weekend. I'm only supposed to be starting mushies today, as op was only 2 weeks ago, but I even had sakata biscuits last night. I seem to be having no problems getting food down. I will be glad to have all the naughty food out of house.
Pos - sorry to hear you have been in pain. I remember with my first banding I had severe shoulder pain and it was terrible. I'd say because they opened me up this time I haven't suffered with any of those problems this time.
Well everyone have a great day and a great week! Keep up the good work!
Love, P1xie xo
PS- Cathryn do you mind if I ask who operated on you from the Ave?

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Hey All
Glad to see that everyone is moving along well and losing heaps of weight.
I am 7 days post op today.
I have been travelling really well hardly any pain apart from the first day or 2 but absolutely no wind pain or anything that was not able to bear. Well that was until today, my God I thought I was going to die, I could hardly catch my breath the pain was right under my rib cage obviously where the band is, and in my left shoulder, the wind pain I guessed but my I thought it was my band slipping
off, my husband rang the hospital and they told me to take pain killers and wait 4 hours and then call them back if the pain was still there, for a moment or so it was worse than childbirth....... The pain killers helped as did the sleep they gave me, it is still there but only dull. I was very surprised after this time that the wind pain would start. Anyone had that problem.
Also it may be telling me to slow down. I have only really rested for about 3 days and have been off galevanting around since then. Off to see nurse tomorrow so shall inform her of my fun Sunday.
