I am having my first fill tomorrow, 5 weeks after surgery. I haven't lost any weight for 4 weeks and can eat almost as much as before the op, and have been able to eat everything I have tried, including bread and pasta. I am scared to tell my doctor how much I am eating but we shall see how it goes.

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
The best advice I can give is to keep off the scales, I dont weight myself between weigh ins anymore. My weigh ins are every fortnight and I have been steadily losing a kilo at each weigh in. I would like to lose more than 500g per week, but my restriction isnt right yet, so it will speed up.
I am happy making the right food choices, with the occassional treat and if the scales dont like me well so be it. It is so liberating, I commented to Hubby just yesterday how long it has been since he had something like chocolate and didnt offer any as he knew I didnt want it to tempt me. Now he offers and 99% of the time I say no.
Oh and in further news
I GOT A NEW BIKE FOR MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
I was banded on the 12th Nov and have found I haven't lost any weight for about three weeks still only 10 kilos since starting Optifast. My weight seems to flutuate from day to day which is frustrating as one day you think you have lost, then the next day you have gained it back. I have to be honest and say I have strayed a couple of times and I haven't been exercising.
I had my first fill last week and for a couple of days I felt totally satisfied when I ate however the last few days I have been hungry again.
I can't believe that my weight is not dropping off as Iam eating so little compared to what I used to eat.

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Hi Shan,
I think you and I were banded at around about the same time (I was 24 Nov) and I have noticed exactly the same thing - no weight loss this week. I was going great guns 98.8 to 85.4 but the past week or so, I have hovered in the 85's. I have put this down to two things - I have read that once you come off the Opti shakes, some people actually put on weight and seconldy I have good old Aunty Flo due to arrive any day. I am hopeing for a loss next week. I'm aiming for the 70's - a figure I thought I would never see again!!!
I'm seriously suffering 'cabin fever' now, even starting to get a case of the sads I think. Three weeks today since I had my open op. I'm going to try to drive today but I really don't think I am quite ready for it - spu my car is a manual! Wish me luck!
Keep your chin up Shan - we'll do it!
Love,
P1xie xo

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Hi Shan don't panic. your body will start to get used to less food. It sounds like you're eating the right amounts. Don't forget hormones will make a difference (you are a girl?)Do you know the doctors don't EXPECT you to lose wieght and you may even put it on!!! I know that's disheartening. But Lapband is slow.
Are you having lots of protein? Otherwise you start to lose muscle not fat.
Are you up to any exercise? I know I haven't had the energy for that yet.
I'm 3 wks post op and have only lost 5 1/2 kgs. But I don't want to lose it fast becasue I know long term it will happen.
I'm just focussing on fitting my new eating lifestyle into my life. We went for a drive yesterday so I packed a lunch bag with basics: pureed fuit, yoghurt, protein shake, packet of soup, bottle of water. So if I didn't find anything suitable when I was out I had back up.
I'm just focussing on getting my head around that!!
You'll probaly find that next week you'll lose what you expected to lose this week.

Hi Jamie, Welcome,
There seems to be two things docs look at, either your weight loss, or your food consumption, it will depend what yours looks at.
I am consistantly losing 500g a week, but still getting a fill every 3 weeks or so as my doc wants me to eat less than I have been.
Cheers

-day off surgery 133kg
-yesterday (23days post op) 122kg

it has been 3 weeks since my op and i think i am doing well, but lately my appetite seems to been returning, i am booked in for a top up on the 22nd of december, but i am scared thar dr baxter will not give me the top up because i have steadily been loosing weight.

can anyone tell me, have your doctors given you top ups even though you have been loosing weight? ? ?

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
P1x,
I know what you mean about cabin fever, I was getting it a bit too, but we were having some trips out doing things when I felt up to it.
I had exactly the same thoughts as you re eating post op, I felt like I was having a major pig out, but was having very small amounts. I still get caught sometimes, I might have a snack while cooking tea, then cant eat tea! I used to snack and then eat tea and be looking for a snack an hour or so later!

Is everyone org an ised for Chrissy? I am half way there, the kids want money as they are older and saving for major items, so that is easy, I hate giving money, its impersonal, but its what they want. Hubby wants to buy himself something for the boat, so hes easy too!
Catch you all later!

Hi Beck, I'm so sad to hear that Liz is still not her usual self - I really do miss you Lizzy and you are in my thoughts and prayers!!!
I'm now seriously suffering 'cabin fever'. It has nearly been three weeks now, since I have been stuck in this house. I am so bored and over watching TV. Need to get busy so I can stop thinking about food. I think I might be brave tomorrow and try to drive! I've taken your advice and am stretching my grazing out and I've also logged on to Calorie King (fab website for those not familiar) and I am counting my calories and staying below my recommended daily amount, so hopefully I will continue to lose weight. It's funny because I will feel so full and guilty about eating food and then when I really think about what I have eaten, it has been say 6 sakata rice biscuits. Now compared to the good old days, when I would eat a whole packet, it really isn't that bad. May be I am not being as bad as I think I am and I've got Aunty Flo due which always makes me extra hungry the week before!!! I'm a little concerned that I am eating rice crackers when I should still be on the mushies stage - I just chew, chew, chew!
Have a great weekend everyone! Relax and smile!
Love,
P1xie xo
PS - Pos congratulations on the great weight loss!

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Hi all,
P1xie, I dont really have any clues on the boredom eating, it can be so hard to control. I made myself stretch the meal times out, so if I wanted something at 11.30, I made myself wait until noon before eating something, it can also be helpful to have some pre planned healthy choices to snack on.

I dropped in and saw Liz today, she is still unwell and asked me to pass on her warm wishes to everyone!

Have a good night all!

Hi Shan
You can order the book from www.foodtalk.com.au or Wesley Nutrition Centre, PO Box 383 Toowong QLD 4066 ph (07)3870 8616.
I know it is confusing because you read different things in different texts about when to eat what. My doctor and his dietician advised liquids 3-4 weeks!! Purees for 2 weeks. The dietician was adamant about not to start mushies before 12th Dec (3weeks). I have appt with her on the 17th Dec about 4weeks. I suppose evryone is different everyone heals differently. Maybe some doctors are overcautious. Also patients are very non-compliant: ie don't do what their told!!! So I suppose the docs figure if we tell patients 3 weeks they will probably last 2 weeks and so on!!! I suppose you have todo what feels right if you have puree and it doesn't feel good stop don't try it again for a few days. I think there will be alot of trial and error down the track as far as what normal foods you tolerate. it seems like everyone has something diferent. One guy i met ages ago said he can eat roast pork and veges one day but then can't eat it again the next day! go figure??!!

HI Debra

Thanks so much for helping us out. SOunds kinda gross and i hope it doesnt happen and if im carful enough i should be right as you say!

Everyone is so helpful here, its great.

Also just wondering what the norm is for mushies......i was told only 7 days of mushies and then move onto soft food.....what was everyone else told. I wonder why Drs differ so much with theor advice.

Where would i get one of the pocket books from Debra would yo know...sounds like a handy little thing

Nette your surgeon did well getting you done with keyhole. I got the whole zip or should I say 'I've been rezipped'. At this stage I think that is the only thing keeping me from eating a lot of food - my scar starts to stretch, other than that I am not feeling any restriction what so ever (which is starting to concern me a bit)???
Good luck on your weight loss journey!

Shellbell I am experiencing the opposite to you - it's only been two weeks since my op, however, I am having no problems eating anything (today I managed to down a packet of 200g corn chips)??? Everyday I say I am going to be good but I am so bored being stuck in the house, by myself all day that my mind starts wandering to my old friend - food!!! BB - Any advice here???
If you're still losing weight and not able to eat a lot, I would have deferred the fill as well!
Congrats on your weight loss!

Hi all,

Started 22/10 - 153.5
DOB - 149.5
Today - 139.2
Total Loss - 14.3 (I'm feeling real good)

I was going to have my first fill today but decided to postpone it a little while. I seem to have restriction all ready - eating less than my 6 year old. But seem to be able to eat anything. Weight coming off well so not going to mess with the process yet. Spoke to Dietician about this and she said that it is OK to wait - I don't have to have any fill yet. Anybody else finding this????

Keep up good work everyone
