Hey POS
well done!! 14 kgs OMG.
I started at 106 kg too I was banded on 21/11 and am now at 97.7kg. I was pretty excited about that. But looks like you're ahead of me!!
I was really thrilled today i ate a peach! Not mashed , not tinned but a fresh whole juicy white peach. I peeled the skin, cut thin slices and ate awa. Delicious! No bad side effects.
Roll on normal food
Keep up the good work POS...what's your secret? I only lost 3 kgs pre-op but the doc wasn't concerned.
have a good XMas too

Hey All

I have been have a few computer glitches lately, no internet, but all fixed now.
I have been doing great. Back at work, no pain except for the occasional one in the top scar where my bra rubs on it.
Have not been eating so much still. I think I probably could but trying to be good as my 1st fill is not until 22nd January, which will be 8 weeks post op. I'm not overly impressed with it being that long away but not much I can do when the Doc is in Paris, LOL.
Back at work too -- fun.
Getting ready for Christmas all the shopping complete, finally and think I have spent more than I should have.

Start of Opti - 15/11 - 106kgs
DOB 29/11 - 99kgs
Todays weight 18/12 - 92kgs

14kgs total loss --- I couldn't have wished for a better result.

I think it will start to slow but I want to lose another kilo before Christmas, we shall see,.
Starting to feel hungry now, but able to resist temptation at the moment. With Chrissy just around the corner we shall see how the will power holds out.
Starting to eat the occasional solid but ever so slowly and chew, chew, chew LOL.

Hope all the Novemberites are doing well and have a fantastic Christmas and New Year.

POS.

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
Minimee,

Don't be disheartened, your weightloss is great considering you were only banded 3 weeks ago. I was impatient too when I was banded in March 2007 at 130kgs. In the first 12 months I dropped 40kgs and in the last 9 months or so I have lost another 15kgs, a total of 55kgs. My weight didn't shift 'weekly'. Sometimes I would sit on the same weight for 2-3 months then pow, drop a few kgs. It might be best not to weigh every day, as it is disheartening when the scales go up. I'm 75kgs now and look 'normal' even though I would love to get to 70kgs, I'm not impatient any more and just grateful I had this operation which has given me my life back.

The months will fly, stick to the 'Rules of the Road' and you wont know yourself, the weight will come off.

Cheers,

Jan

Hey Gorgeous BB, Thanks for all your tips I will send hubbie out to try and source 'Super food ideas'. Unfortunatey, I am still house bound. Seriously suffering cabin fever! This little Aries will have to learn to be patient!
Ladies thank you all for the protein tips - protein, hmmm now that is a hard one for me. I'm such a junkie - I don't really like any of the foods listed as being high in protein. Although I will make a definate effort to try to learn to like them. The only suggested protein I like are the nuts and I have to stay way clear of those because my little one has the dreaded nut allergy!
Pos - how are you? You have been very quiet lately (no doubt you have been flat out preparing for Chrissie).
BB - Update on the weight loss please. Afterall, you are my mentor!
Have a good one everyone! Love, P1xie xo

Hey Mini, sweetie don't be so hard on yourself. You are doing really well. You have to remember the whole banding thing is a slow process - I think the recommended weight loss is about 500g per week. I know this does not seem much, however, just imagine by this time next year how much all those little 500g will add up. As for being 1kg up - I'm going through the same thing at the moment but I've put this down to Aunty Flo being over due and also they say once you come off Opti you can expect to actually put on a little bit of weight. Keep your beautiful chin up girl - you can do it! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Love, P1xie xo

feeling very disheartened. I would have thought the weight would just fall off considering how little I eat....
Surgery on 25th Nov. Only lost 4kg since then. How disappointing!!. Just started soft solids this week, but VERY careful with what I eat. Woke up today, up 1kg. WHAT?!?!?!....

Ali I would have brekkie before you go I did and had a morning appt with my first fill without any problems. I have lost about 15kg's since opti but like others have posted the weightloss has slowed down. My Dr said that was to be expected but was happy that I have really noticed my clothes feeling looser. He aslo said I would be building muscle hich weighs more than fat, as I have really ramped up the exercise. Unfortunately I have to wait till mid jan for another fill so going to have to stay like this for awhile yet. I think the suggestion of eating proteins first is a good one, I have been trying to do that and steer clear of the carbs

I finished my mushie stage yesterday and had bangers and mash with gravy for dinner will no ill effects at all.

This morning I had a piece of multigrain toast with vegemite also with no problems.

I'm so releived to be able to have modest servings of "normal" food. I hope this can continue after my first fill in January.

Ali, I would think that as your appointment is fairly early you would need a light breaky a couple of hours before.
P1x, we are having a roast lunch Christmas day, as we always do, and left overs for tea. The magazine 'Super food ideas' has some really good easy recipes for those who are after something different. I am of the opinion that it is Christmas, enjoy it! In moderation of course!
Youre right about the protien being in eggs. 1 lag egg has around 6 gm of protein, cottage cheese is a great sourse of protein and calcium, at around 12g per 100g, it is also low in fat. The low fat dairy foods are a really good protein source, there is an extra light philly cream cheese now too, it still has 5g fat per 100g, but is much lower than the normal light and tastes the same, infact I cant tell the difference between it and normal cream cheese. Nuts are also good for protein, tbsp of peanut butter has about the sme protein as an egg, maybe a bit more. 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds also has around 6g protein. Chicken drumsticks are between 8 and 12 g each of protein depending on size. I am not sure about the tune or salmon off the top of my head, but it will have it on the tin. I hope this has been helpful :-)

Re:Any November 08 Banders? Reply to this message
I too want to thank everybody for all the support we get and give on this site, so many times I have a question or concern and a quick look on site and I usually find the answer or even just find someone feeling the same as I do and it is so reassuring.
P1xie your right with the protein and eggs I've been having plenty of eggs now I'm on mushies, I make a crustless quiche with plenty of veg also baked into it and that is good. My other proteins are tinned tuna and salmon and also fish fillets well cooked and well chewed are considered "mushies" by my dietician. So lots of those cook in bag fish with sauce things from the freezer for work dinners and also grilled salmon fillets etc from the fresh deli at supermarket. Also canned baked beans are a good filling source and a reasonable source of fibre as well, also on the bean thing I have just the meat and sauce part of chili con carne with kidney beans in it well cooked and squished with fork and a touch of lite sour cream(yummm I shouldn't think about food when I am prowling the house at this time of night.
Can I ask a question of those who have already had their first fill were you given any info on what to have eaten before the fill....my first is due at 0930 Monday (also supposed to be my 1st day of solids) should I have a decent solid breakfast before I go or something light or nothing at all????any suggestions

Hi everyone, I'd like to thank you all too, for your support. I would be lost without this thread. Re - the protein thing - can I ask what you guys have been eating for protein? I'm three and half weeks post op - I think eggs are high in protein ??? so apart from my Fernwood shakes which do have protein in them, I have been eating quiche m@ffins that I make without the pastry - egg, tuna, basil, capsicum, spring onion, garlic, half a cup of SR flour, some milk and anything else I choose to throw in (cook in oven on 180 for half an hour) . Very yummy - thanks again for the recipe C. I love them!! It would be good to hear what others have been eating to get the protein in.
BB - I'm glad you had a great birthday! I'm planning to drag the bike I got last Christmas (and that has only been ridden once) out of our shed, this holiday season.
Now BB you being the Chef of our family - have you got any suggestions for a person who is hopeless in the kitchen, but wants to cook a HEALTHY Christmas lunch for 6 adults and 3 children on Chrissie day?? I need a menu that is very easy peasy!!! Any help would be much appreciated!
Have a great day tomorrow everyone!
Love,
P1xie xo

Hi All, thanks for your support and encouragement. I will try eating the protein first I hadn't been doing that. At first I was weighing myself almost daily but now only on Mondays as that was my banding day. Weighing once a week is a better idea. I havent taken my measurements and will re-measure this week to see if any cm's have been lost. Alirabs congrats on the 24kgs that is excellent, keep up the good work!! First fill tomorrow so we will see how that goes...

Hi everyone.

thanks so much for the support, it really does mean so much. I went back to the gym for the first time tonight and it felt great to be back. Was only able to manage a walk on the treadmill but at least i was there i guess. Im an aries too and being patient isnt in my genetic make up i dont think....lol. I will be right. I ordered a few books from food talk and hopefully they will be able to help. My heart is saying you can do this but my head is telling me i want to eat naughty food again....even though i really dont. I know that this is terrible to say but i didnt htink this would happen to me and im honestly shocked that it did because i didnt have my head prepared for it.........just need to get my act together and leave the past in the past and move forward at babysteps

Thanks again guys....love yas all

HI all, thanks for the birthday wishes, I had a great day.
I went for a bike ride with my son yesterday arvo, and my legs and a$$ are complaining today. I do plan on going for a ride again today too, so they can complain all they like!
San, congrats on putting the scales away, it is the best feeling not having to worry about them all the time, (I swear mine know my name and used to call me atleast once each hour!) I walk about 10 hours a week, and without it wouldnt lose any weight at all, my dogs love it too!

Picksea (LOL trying to trick yahoo into not needing to put a 1 in P1xie) well done on the choc ies, I have two boxes of choc ies (why the heck is that offensive???)sitting in my room awaiting their wrapping, and they are a very small temptation, but not much, this time last year they would have been hoovered!! :-)
Have a good day all, and smile its the silly season!

Hi BB,

Good idea about the scales, I have tucked them away. Not too worried, I know I am feeling heaps better and it will come off eventually. Went for a walk yesterday, the dogs loved it so have to try and keep it up, too easy to find excuses though. Your steady weight loss is fantastic. I haven't lost any thing now for about 4 weeks so I hope with the walking it jump starts the weight loss again.

What a great birthday present and a good incentive to get out and exercise. Anyway hope you have a fantastic birthday and keep up the good work.

San...

Hi Novemberites
Everyone seems to be travelling so well.
I have to agree with col re the protein thing. 5 weeks post band and basically only get my proteins in have had very little in the way of carbs since op (long may it continue) I have 1 more week of mushies to go and first fill in 6 days (thank god).
I am so craving proper solid food...at the top of my craving list at the moment is a lamb chop and a fruit mince pie (normally this close to xmas I would have eaten several packets of them but not one yet this year)
I'm officially 24kgs down since I visited GP for surgeons referral in August and feel so much better for having lost it....gee only another 46kgs to go (ahhhhhhhhh)

Hi BB happy birthday. Just think how much less of you there will be to celebrate your birthday next year!!Then you can have your cake and eat it: it just won't be a very big slice!!
Hi jade & Pilbara
DOn't be discouraged..Have you got an item of clothing that was tight before you had your op? Put it on now. How loose is it: look how much you have achieved.
Take out your tape measure: how much have you lost off your boobs, your waist, you tummy? I've lost 5cm , 3cm, 4cm in 3 wks ( the boob part worries my husband, though there is still plenty to go around.!)
Add it all up : I've lost 12 cm in 3 1/2 weeks. How about you? I'm sure you have lots of NSVs even at this early stage.
I weigh myself every Friday (day of my surgery) but I hadn't lost anything last week. Checked it again Monday and 500g was somehow gone.
keep up the good work just stay of those scales for a while.

Hi Jade and Pilbara....Make sure that you eat your protein first at meal time.I have found that doing that has been the best thing for me...and I know others..because it gives you more of the feeling of being full and doesn't pass through the band as quickly.Jade ...try to steer away from the pasta..bread and high carb food for a while and eat more of the protein...don't skimp on the veg or salad though.Pilbara...4kg..4we eks...that is fantastic.Don't be lured into thinking that that amount of loss is not enough. The aim of the banding process is to get you down to a 1/2kg ..1 lb loss per week on average...your 4kg in that time is great...congrats........C ol

BB - HAPPY B'DAY TO YOU - Play hard, laugh lots but don't eat too much cake!!!
Shan and Co., - I think we have to follow BB's advice and we have to learn to be patient (very hard for an Aries like me)!! Just imagine all those 500g's adding up to this time next year!
I'm in Melbourne and am definately up for a New Year catch up, if anyone is interested???
I did well today - I purchased my boss a Borders gift voucher (for a book), a bottle of port and some Lindt chocolate for Christmas. Well can I tell you - that Lindt chocolate has been killing me! I nearly gave in but then I thought 'hey, you haven't gone through all this to stuff your face on 21 Lindt balls (yes there is no grey for me - if I started it would be the whole box (after all chocolate melts)). Some how I resisted. I even had an arguement with hubbie and did not do the emotional eating thing! Now I just have to get through tomorrow as I will be catching up with him on Wednesday and then thank God that box of chocolates will be out of my house.
Keep up the good work and positive thoughts everyone!
Have a great day tomorrow.
Love, P1xie xo

Hi Everyone, well it's my 4 week bandiversary today. Finally I can have solid foods, although I must admit to succumbing a few times in the last week. I'm disappointed in my weight loss 4 kgs in 4 weeks, I suppose that is average but had hoped for a bit more. Will have my first fill on Wednesday and not at all too soon, I've been eating more and more each day, still less than before but more than I would like to be. Sounds like I'm not the only one with weight loss and appetite issues, all I can say is I hope the fill improves things for us all. Take care P.
