Hey BB, Did you get my e-mail? I'm amazed at the difference in the amount of food our surgeons have suggested! Shan no wonder you are confused! It certainly seems that all the surgeons differ in their directions! I'm so looking forward to the New Year - I just have this little voice in my head that says it's Christmas/New Year, you're on holidays, enjoy, have that drink or that choccie! But come 01 January the party is over! Time to seriously start working on my weight loss mission! The good news is I haven't put on any weight over the past couple of weeks - I'm still bang on 85 kg. I'm so sick of that weight - cannot wait to reach the 70's. I'm thinking about joining WW to keep me accountable. I'm also looking forward to the 'Biggest Loser' starting again as I get very motivated by that show. I was deeply saddened last night because my husband told me that he had read that Allison's (from the Biggest Loser) husband committed suicide. How incrediably sad! Apparently, he had fought depression his whole life and his father had taken his own life. My heart really goes out to her and her family. They are certainly in my thoughts and prayers.
On a brighter note - I wish you all the very best in 2009 - may all your dreams and wishes come true! Thank you all again for your advice, words of wisdom and support!
Love to you all, P1xie xo |

Hi Novemberites
Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and are all gearing up for a great New Year.
Well 7 weeks post op and I 've had my first Non loss since August when I started this trip. Didn't lose but didn't gain either and I could probably say this is the first christmas in my adult life that I didn't gain weight. I have been a fair bit more active with more dog walking than usual so hopefully its just turned to muscle.
Can't wait to hear how everyone else is going

Shan, it is normal to gain weight while working towards the correct restriction, the guidelines I got from my dietician are, 1-2 slices wholemeal/wholegrain bread
1 small bowl (around30g) high fibre cereal (All bran, weetbix, porridge- not quick oats, as GI levels vary hugely in the different oats)
2 peices of fruit, can be fresh, stewed or canned
5 veg, of different colours
2 serves meat or 1 egg (meat serves cover red meat, fish and chicken and is 30-45g)
2 250ml serves low fat milk
1 serve low fat yogurt or 2 slices low fat cheese
Before you get the correct restriction, you need to eat healthy options, and stop when youre not hungry, dont get to the too full stage!!!! That last bit is really important! Good luck

Hi Shan and all the other lovely Novemberites,
Shan I'm hearing you girlfriend. I started freaking out yesterday because boy have I been able to eat and I've actually already had my first fill. Monday I managed to get through a whole packet of tim tams and heaps of other food!!!I was seriously starting to think 'what the hell am I doing???' So last night I got out my bible out - Prof O'brien's book on lap banding and reread chapters 6 and 7. He recommends that we eat no more than three times a day and for it to be no more than half a cup of food at each sitting, we should try and stretch that half a cup over a 20 minute period and we should try to eat protein (fish, egg, cheese) over carbs!! It is hard to break a lifetime of habits - food has always been my dear friend, I am so used to shovelling huge amounts down my throat but I realise now that food is not my friend, my friends are my friends, food is just fuel. This morning I finally faced the scales. I was happy to discover I have only put on 1 kilo over the Christmas period (hopefully that will disappear in the next couple of days). Today was a fresh start - I've eaten my three half cup meals (at this stage I am enjoying little quiche m@ffins made without the pastry and consisting of tuna, cheese, onion, garlic & egg). Tomorrow I plan on starting my exercise (just walking or swimming in my case) and I also plan to join WW (for the 100th time) just to keep myself accountable (I need that weekly weigh in). I'm having my second fill 05 January. We have to remember that the band is not the miracle cure - it is just another tool to assist us on our weight loss journey. At this stage I'm really not feeling too much restriction, however, I do realise that I was eating out of head hunger, not because I was hungry.
Keep your chin up girlfriend - we will get there - we are just on a serious learning curve at the moment!!
Love, P1xie xo
PS - Sorry can't help you re accomm - not familiar with the Valley? |

| I can't believe how much I ate yesterday! I suppose I'm 5 week post surgery and no fill yet. Though if I took the time to add it all up it is probably no where near what I used to eat. It's just so much more than lately. But I'm a cheap drunk now. 2 bottles of Illusions and I was falling asleep!! |

Happy Xmas to you too - what are you doing at work today?
What time do you finish off? Hope the rest of the day goes well for you.
I enjoyed my roast dinner - first one off liquids and it looked like baby mush but it was tasty!!

Shan
I also thought I was doing something wrong, hardly any carbs, lots of protein but I wasn't trying that hard this time of year, I'm sure after New Year I will be able to step things up a notch.
I am on holidays till the 1st and have resigned from work and probably wont get another job till March, so will have nothing but spare time when I get back to Sydney to get myself into some good habits.
My doctor told me not to be upset if it comes off extremely slowly over the first few months as the band wont be working at it's full potential until at least a few adjustments in.
Just hang in there, I still think of not gaining as a huge bonus, as I used to gain every month, so try to think of the positives.

Hi Shan,
I only lost about 1kg after surgery then had about 3 weeks losing nothing until my first fill. It has been a week since then and I have now lost another kg so hope things continue. I could eat anything pre fill and also almost the same amounts as before. I am definitely eating less now and not getting as hungry in between meals . I refuse to measure my food by cup, and hope that just eating sensibly will be enough it seems to be so far.
Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and safe New Year to you all.

Hi everyone
its been a while since my last post. Sorry about that...what a busy time its been.
Hope everyone is org an ised for chrissie and that you all have a Happy and Safe one.
Im a little frustrated that ive not lost any weight in the last two week (havent put on either mind you) Im due to have my first fill in three weeks time. Is it normal to not loose any weight in that time (apart from the two KGs i lost after surgery). Ive been getting heaps and heaps on compliments though which is a really nice change
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

Hi BB,
My apologies for being a slacko! I am just looking at this site for the first time in days. Busy, busy, busy trying to get ready for that big important day on Thursday - pretty org@nised now - just some more cleaning tomorrow and one big grocery shop.
I have just returned from my first post op appointment today. Wounds have healed up nicely, however, the Prof did have problems locating my port and when he did find it, he was quite surprised about it's location. I hope this does not mean problems in the future (sorry for being cynical)! I now have 4.5 mls in my port. Does anyone know how many mls is the norm once the 'sweet spot' has been located? BB and others - How many mls do you currently have? My weight has not budged for about three weeks now - I keep hanging anywhere in the 85 mark - very frustrating! Aunty Flo finally arrived (two weeks late), so I am hopeing that my weight will have a sudden drop! I hope this fill makes a difference. Worryingly, I am currently hungry and I just had a fill??? I go back in another 2 weeks. The Prof reiterrated that I should only be eating about half a cup of food, three times a day. I did not want to fess up to him that I have the capacity to eat a lot more than that. Are other new bandits finding that they can easily eat more than half a cup at a time?
Well all you lovely Novemberites - just in case I don't sign in again before Chrissie - I wish you and your families a wonderful Christmas and here's to a bright, shiny and healthy year for all of us in 09!
Love,
P1xie xo |

Hi Novemberites,
Well I survived the first fill today, was pretty painless and kind of uneventful. Although did find out that my band that should have had nothing in it actually had 3mls of fluid that had somehow remained during surgery, so that was removed and then a nice fresh 5 mls was placed in. I'm so glad I found out about the 3 mls cos I thought I was going crazy was not supposed to have any restriction but was certainly feeling what I thought could only be restriction. (particularly last night when without thinking or really chewing I threw down a piece of roast lamb and thought my chest was going to explode) now it all makes sense and long may the restriction continue have not eaten over 200mls at one sitting since op and 2 saladas with cream cheese (first solid food yesterday) kept me full for 5 hrs.
Can't wait to hear how everyone elses fills are going and also how everyone goes over xmas.

Hi Pos
have tried your advice staying away from carbs...well mostly. Instead of porridge for brekkie I've been having eggs, lunch is slices of ham spread with cream cheese and rolled up, a little avocado but no cruskit. Dinner: meat and veges but no potato. This morning when I jumped on the scales I was a kilo lighter than yesterday.I did have a rumball or two yesterday and a little rice last night and oh yeah, 2 cruskits.. so I haven't been very good at all!!! And i know I shouldn't weigh myself everyday can't help it.

Hey Slenderella, I tried to post this comment on your blog but had problems so here goes -
Huge congratulations to you Tracey - you are doing really well. I think after all these years of us 'food lovers' eating huge proportions of food, it is going to take a while for us to break the old habits and for us to start eating small portions. Keep up the good work!

I know how you feel. Now that I've moved onto "mushies" i don't know what to eat. I was looking for something I don't have to blend first. I was in a nice routine with my food. Most of my liquids in the last week purees really. I'm supposed to have another week of mushies but am worried about eating real food. So tonight I cooked lamb cutlets for family. I cut it up so finely mixed it with finely diced mushrooms and mixed with mashed potato. I had no side effects. But it took so long that one cutlet was enough. I suppose that's the whole point. have been slack with my water though. I forget to have it before i eat then feel thirsty as I'm eating so I sneak in a sip or two. Must make sure I have a glass before I go to bed. But will take your advice POS and try to cut out those carbs: cruskits go down so well.
Goodnight all

Hi Sonya,
I would also love to catch up with you - it will be good to be able to support and motivate each other. Happy to meet any time as I don't have any real commitments over the next few weeks as I'm not up to doing too much. However, can definately manage a couple of hours away from home for a cuppa and a chat..
For some reason the yahoo website is not allowing me to type in my correct e-mail address so if you would like to give me your e-mail address - I'll e-mail you soon!
I look forward to meeting you! Love, P1xie xo |
