| part 2 - This will be at least an hour round trip. I also plan to reread a thread I read within the past couple of days (at the time my son was climbing all over me and the keyboard making things difficult). I think I can recall reading that someone was following what 'S@rappinghannah' (who is my ultimate hero as she has lost over 100kgs) did to lose her weight and that was to eat one main meal a day and allow herself one choccie treat each day. I think it was on a thread called something like 'why don't I have restriction'. Sc@ppingHannah also has a thread named 'Julie's arm pics' which has her photos on it and I have found it to be really inspiring (we also have the same surgeon). I really want to start getting serious with my eating. I am being really silly by not following the correct eating plan but I'm just loving being on holidays and at the moment as long as I am not putting on weight I am happy. It is so nice to be back in the 80's. I will be so excited when I see the 70's again and I can only dream about the 60's. All the very best to you! I'm sure we will all get there! Love, P1xie xo |

Hi Shan, You are so good for running - It is one thing that I have never been able to get into - I would love to be able to run! I do enjoy the gym, however, because my op was a full open procedure (I had several large hernia's removed at the same time) I am only allowed to walk or swim for the first six months. I must admit I have been a bit slack in this area and have only managed to go walking and swimming a couple of times but I do do housework everyday which I consider to be exercise. The recovery from having an open op is slow (I'm still quite tender).
I also think I've got a bit too lazy - I'm a bit too used to my couch! I don't go back to work until 02 Feb (I'm currently on annual leave) so I'm being a real slacko. My life is normally extremely busy - you know the one - full time working mother, who runs a house etc. So I have really enjoyed the two months I'm having off (4 weeks sick leave, attached to 5 weeks annual leave). I am going to find it extremely difficult to get back into the swing of things come Feb. But to answer your questions - yes apparently the Prof did put in fill at the time of my op. I'm being really slack with my eating at the moment and I really need to get my act together but I'm in holiday mode - I tend to have 2 pieces of Helga Multi Grain toast for breakfast, a quiche m@ffin that I make without the pastry for lunch, I might have a tub of chris's low fat tzakiki dip with sakata biscuits in the arvo (I figure at least it has some protein in it), a couple of scotch and cokes, maybe another m@ffin later on. As I stated earlier I'm being pretty bad and this would not be what I would normally eat. I really am not eating from hunger just out of head hunger. My weight has been the same for weeks now - anywhere between 84-85 kilos (down from 98.8 at the start of Opti). I'm sure once I do start behaving the weight will really start to come off. I plan to walk my son to school and then continue on to work every day. |

Hi P!x ie
thanks for the advice. Does that mean that you had fluid in your band to start with? Thats strange. I now have 1.5 ml in mine (fist fill was Friday just gone, was banded same day as you!) I dont feel i have the restriction as yet that everyone mentions. It is that you cant eat as much or you are satisfied for longer. Any chance you could give me some idea of your daily food plan, i seem to be struggling here. The exercise is going great guns, am RUNNING again for the first time in ages, and as of tomorrow i am starting to ride to work, timed it today!!!
Hope everyone is sensational
Cheers

Thanks P1xie for your condolences re the back. They are fickle things, everyone keeps saying but you have lost so much weight surely you wont have any back probs now. Unfortunately any change makes the back unhappy so even a change in the way I move my body becouse of the loss or even buying new shoes can cause probs. Anyway its on the mend haven't got back into the gym yet but hoping to get back on Tuesday after I finish this block of shifts.
Re the fills for everyone maybe it is because your doctor puts fill in at surgery or just because of the holidays but hopefully we will all get the level we need asap

Hi Ladies,
From reading the different threads I think the whole fills thing is kind of like the pre-op process - the surgeons all seem to differ with there approaches. My surgeon likes to take the slowly, slowly approach. I was banded 24 November, had my first fill of .05 mls on 23 December, which took me up to 4.5 mls and then another .07mls at my second fill. This takes me to 5.2 mls in an 8 ml band. I am very happy with my current situation as I am not hungry. I tend to eat every 2-3 hours, more out of habit and because I am in a relaxed 'holiday' mode. Once I return to work I will be more strict on myself. I love the fact that my whole life no longer revolves around food now. Before I would be eating breakfast and thinking about what I would be eating at lunch time. Or I could not go in to the supermarket without buying a family block of Cadbury chocolate (and if I was on a 'diet' supermarket shopping was agony). Now I don't even think about going down the chocolate aisle. I have never experienced any food getting stuck and I can easily eat two slices of multigrain toast comfortably, but I am no longer looking around for the additional 4 slices I used to eat. I'm quite happy with this, as I am happy to take my weight loss slowly. I will be having my third fill on 29 January. For me, I don't think I would like to go over 6mls because I like the way I am now. I am enjoying my life more and not wasting so much energy thinking about food and planning my next diet.
Sorry for rambling ladies! Maybe the ladies that are being made to wait for long periods for a fill need to be a little bit more assertive. This comes from the biggest softie in Australia (hee, hee, hee)!!!
Have a wonderful day everybody!
Love, P1xie xo |

I suppose some details you don't realise how important they are until after the procedure. Xmas and New Year holidays don't help either.
I don't know how much my doctor puts in for each fill. do they have standard amount?
I was planning to ring the practice on Monday anyway to ask abou this. My doctor asks you to bring a small tub of yoghurt to the practice for your appointment. You have to be able to get that down without ill effects before leaving the practice.
I have another appointment 2 weeks after that already booked in. |

| I agree with P1ixe, wishing I had asked about follow up care before I signed up. I have had to wait 7 weeks between fill one and two (having my second fill on Thursday). I am really frustrated as I don't feel like I ahve any restriction and have actually just put on 2 kg's which really worries me. I'm really hoping 2nd fill makes a difference. I have started booking 2 appointmenst ahead now so hopefully I wont have to wait so long in between - starting to get really impatient and doesn't help the motivation at all |

Ali - I'm so sorry to hear that you have put your back out - what a bummer! That is a huge weight loss - congratulations!
Sorry I forgot to mention re the fill - no problems what so ever. In and out of the surgery really quickly.
I think there may be a lesson learnt here for anyone considering banding - check what after care your surgeon is offering. The practice I attend was only closed between Christmas and New Year. I have had no problems getting appointments as they have several surgeons (I did have to see someone else other than my orginal surgeon but he was just as great). I am grateful that I don't have to wait between fills because it means my journey is speedier, than for some. I wouldn't want to wait weeks and weeks for fills because you soon realise after a fill if you still require a little more. I wouldn't appreciate the waiting - I am an impatient Aries and I want to see results!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Love, P1xie xo |

Hi Everyone
had my first fill yesterday (banded 24/11) of 1.5ml. I was petrified of having it done but i seriously did not feel a thing at all.....nothing, so those of you that are going to have your first one and like me are petrified.....its a walk in the park, i didnt even feel the syringe!!!!! Had to stay on fluids for the rest of that day and today can start of soft foods and then back to normal foods, hard to say weather i feel anything dofferent or not.
How is it that some of you are up to 3rd fills already, my next appointment (2nd fill) is another month away!!!!???

Hi Novemberites
P1xie I was wondering the same thing. I thought I had on of the most conservative surgeons as far as fills and even I had my first on 22/12 (6 weeks post op). But for all Novemberites going for their first...relax...its not as scary as we think it will be. I was out of the surgery in 15 mins and most of that was with the practise nurse getting weighed and discussing any issues...fill took less than 5 and didn't hurt at all.
Hope everyone is going well. I have stalled at 25 kgs down haven't lost anything since the fill, I do have restriction but also re introduced alcohol over Christmas and New Years and have put my back out this week and not beeen able to exercise at all.

Happy New Year to all the November bandsters!!!
Hi Sonya,
Sorry to be a beak, however, why has it taken so long for your surgeon to give you a fill? I was banded the day before you and I will be getting my third fill on January 29. I'm only asking because I have read that it can take quite a few fills before you actually experience 'restriction'.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Love, P1xie xo |

Where are all the Novmeber banders gone? Recovering from fills?
I haven't had my first yet. 15th jan is the day. Somedays I don't think I need it but other days I really do.
Weekends are the worst especially if I'm home. |

I should have another look at foodtalk.com. Last time I looked I was still on liquids so I really wasn't interested!
Well done .. on the running!! I don't think I've run anywhere since I was 12!! Bouncy boobs always a hassle. Might stick to walking so I don't knock myself out accidently!!

Hi Debra
sorry. I live in Albury/Wodonga and am looking for accomodations near the Valley private in Mulgrave near the hospital. Know of anywhere nice to stay???
Yeah you probably should start exercising if your feeling well enough too. Im about 5 weeks banded and went for my first run today....god it felt great and then i went shopping and bought a top a size smaller than usual and darn it felt good.....
BTW: would recommend checking out foodtalk.com.au - i found some great reference books and they also have a new band recipe book. A bit pricey but worth it if we have this thing for life
Cheers everyone
hope your all having as fantastic a day as me
