Well I just called APRA as I couldn't resist any longer and they said at least another week so obviously their 25 working days is now more like 30 working days. Ho hum. so much waiting. I'm glad my surgery date as left sufficient time as I will need 10 working days on top of that for my actual super company to release the fund.

APRA recieved my application on the 11 December, I got a call from them a couple of weeks ago saying they wanted another letter from my GP stating that the surgery was not available in the public hospital system which I faxed through to them 2 weeks ago. I have to wait another 25 days and then another 10 working days for my super fund to decide to deposit the money into my bank. I should get my money by the second week in March. Absolutely ridiculous that it can take so long.

Hi,

I sent off my application today. I dont think the letter from the surgeon will be okay, as he didnt use their wording. If I have to get it rewritten that is okay. So the waiting begins!

Re:Payment through superannuation fund? Reply to this message
from my exprience u have to wait 23 days before they will tell u anything the process is on the 23day they look at your app and then u call. i had mine put in in nov2008 review date was the 9th of dec i called and was rejected on the grounds that my drs reffarl hadnt stated the info thet they wanted. so i had to get the dr to correct that what i did was got one from the same dr and i also seen another dr from the same clinic and she wrote word for word on what they wanted.Cause i was rejected i rang every couple of weeks and i asked diffrent staff about it they couldnt tell me much one sugguest that i get a stat dec filled out and send it in(anything u send in after your app will be review at the same time. if u put it in after the review date then u are to wait another 23days before they look at it.} I did verything i could but was moody and nerves for the last week when the 23day came i called and they said they were running behind i had to wait another 1 1/2 weeks i was not happy but then i got a phone call from Apra and we went through the app and she called me back to say i was approved. The waiting game is the hardest. Its cruel but please make sure that the refearls state what they want word for word or u will will be let down like myself and have to play the waiting game again

Great news the long wait is over for me Apra have finially approved my money. They only thing is that they approved me on my first quote. i will have to pay the diffrences of that which isn't as bad as them just approving small amount. which i am hoping my cc will be able to cover it

Re:Payment through superannuation fund? Reply to this message
I don't know that rules have changed, but they have definitely become much stricter. I've read many posts of people who applied for "a little bit more" than what they needed and were approved. I was approved release of $3,500 that I had borrowed from my mum to pay for my surgery, not a cent more. They did not reimburse the $500 out of pocket I had already paid for excess on my hospital, as I had already paid it, they considered I was able to pay it (didn't matter if i had borrowed money from bills etc. to pay this). I initially requested extra to cover my time off work as I work on a casual basis and do not get sick leave, and this was also rejected (whereas other people on this forum have received this).

I'm not complaining, just saying that they have become much stricter on releasing funds (I suspect due to the state of financial affairs at the moment) and I doubt telling them that people on a forum have got this or that, is going to make any difference.

Re:Payment through superannuation fund? Reply to this message
baileys

I don't understand this, many people including my niece who have no private health insurance have been given the total amount, not the gap between private health isurance and the total amount, nor did they have to submit Statutory Declarations.

I suggest you ring APRA again and tell them you belong to a forum where many people over the last few years have received what I mentioned in my fist sentence. Then ask have the rules for grounds of acceptance changed and if they have ask what date they changed and don't accept 'I don't know' as an answer, insist on speaking to a Manager who can tell you the date of change. Trouble with these type of places they put untrained people on the end of customer service phones who don't know what they are talking about so say anthing. Unfortunately I know this because it has happened to me, I was put on the First Home Ownership Grant's phones and realised weeks down the track when I learnt more that I had previously been giving out incorrect information.

Not related but I have private health insurance and for the last ten years I have been claiming once a year, one pair of orthotic shoes to the value of $200 and received full remimbursement from my health fund. I went to purchase orthotic shoes last week but lucky I checked with HCF my health fund first because as of the 1st of March 2008 their rules for claims were changed but I received no notification of this. My point is rules do change without any notification on websites or via personal mail so give Apra a call and check.

Please let us know what they say, I'm very interested to follow your progress with APRA.

Re:Payment through superannuation fund? Reply to this message
i got in contact with apria my new review date is jan 13th i explained my position to them that i dont have private health cover they suggested that i get a stat dec and send it to them in regards to no having private health insurance and to fax it before the 13th and they will review it then so i am now still in hope that it may happen .
