Thanks for the advice guys. You lot ROCK! Thats funny about the metamucil, it says on Dr Watsons aftercare sheet to use it?! Anyway I stuck with the prune juice and it worked *Embarrassed glance* Thank GOODNESS. It was like, the highlight of my morning!
Today I was hungry!!! How exciting, and I went shopping and completely avoided the clothes spots coz theres no point! My trackies are already falling off. Yay!
So scrambled eggs and mushy veggies, looking forward to it. When did you all start?

Hi everyone.
Well Beks, your not alone!!! today I had 3 hot chips from one of my kids plates and man did it taste good!!! I've only been banded 10 days, and still have another 5 days of liquids. I chewed and I chewed and I chewed, and thankfully it went down ok, and then I felt really guilty.
I understand where your coming from, these first stages are really hard, and I just wanted something I could chew.

Me too. I cheated today and loved every minute of it. We went to brookfield winery and I had the cheese platter..I chewed and sucked and made that scrumtious cheese and chutney plate into the most moist paste ever..I could have sucked it up a straw before I swallowed.
It was a wnderful afternoon they had a lady singing jazz, Blues and country type music..I expected my eleven yr old son to bore easily. He rather surprised me and we were there a good two hrs before you could tell he was getting restless and wanted to go!!
It was just great to finally be able to go some where and enjoy our selves!!

Beks its hard I know
maybe if you feel the need to absolutely have something
then have a cruskit with butter n vegemite or jam
now im not saying you should
but its the better option
a cruskit will totally disolve in your mouth
so there wont be any chance of it getting stuck
avoid the hot chips hun
its not worth the risk just yet
hang in there
it wont be for much longer

beks try and stick with it for as long as you can. I know how you are feeling - I was completely feral at that stage - sooo grumpy, but it's important to let things heal up - if that one chip gets stuck you might do some damage.
Cheers

has anyone cheated while on liquids or mushies..
like had one hot chip off someones plate with no ill effects.. so then every so often a little cheat of something forbidden?
i have.. im still on liquids for at least another 5 days at least but have had a hot chip here and there, a cc here and there..
if i didn't, i'd be in a mental institute by now.. i want real food... not much of it, just some of it...
not cause im hungry coz im not, i just miss the simple things, like crackers with vegemite, toast, a lump of polony, a bacon and egg mc m u ffin, a whopper with cheese, small fries, a bowl of wheetbix, toasted ham and cheese sandwich, a slice of the freshest bread and butter, an apple, a banana, pad thai, a green curry................

amazingmum it should be ok

i did redress one of them as it needed it
but the other one was fine
if the wound looks cleaned n healed then its fine
if concerned get a small bandaid type dressing n pop over it

For unzippin and anyone else who would like to use
Transition from liquids to solids (from my dietician)
Commence after 2/3 weeks of liquids.
All Liquids consummed must now be calorie free
Fluids are not to be consumed with meals (have a good drink 20minutes before an wait at least 2 hours after)
the following is a meal guide of what to each in the following 4 weeks
Week 1
start by gently thickening or increaseing the texture of foods you have had for the liquid stage. soups to be prepared so would not go through a straw and drain of excess liquid. try introducign eggs but ensure yolk is runny, use a thicker yoghurt, replace vitamise fruit with mashed fruit, replace veggie juice with mashed veggies(i.e potato, pumpkin, swede).
well cooked porridge or weetbix, mashed baked beans, soft scrambled eggs, tinned fruit drained and mashed with a fork.
Also remember to include multivitamin
Week 2
(only prgress once happy with week 1)
Special K or weetbix (use less milk now)
Increase egg texture but ensure yolk still soft
tin fruit mashing not required
fork mask all veggies continue to peel first
fresh fish (baked or microwave to retain moisture)
tinned fish (mix with mash or white sauce or mayo)
tuna casserole, salmon mornay.
baked beans mashing not required
Week 3
High fibre breakfast cereal no nuts or dried fruit with small amount of skim milk
Banana's and other soft fruit
eggs and fish as desired
veggies well cooked whole and soft not mashed (but peeled)
dry crackers low fat cheese, smooth peanut butter, avacado,
minced chicken eg meatloaf, pasta sauce, casserole
legumes eg dahl
pasta trial various shapes
Week 4
by this week we can be more experimental introduce food gradually
High fibre breakfast cereal (dried fruit and nuts allowed)
Fesh fruit with skin
wholemeal/rye/multigrain toast no crusts nibble slowly
mountain bread
pita bread
rice cakes, corn thins
lean cold meats/fish/low fat cheese/sliced tomato/cucumber/veg ... |

hello Lynda
anything that takes your fancy hun
if this is your early stage of mushies
go slow and make it very mushy for a day or two
any vegies you like with gravy
you can blitz almost anything then add extra sauce so its not dry
try and have things you like
you can blitz meat too
so maybe what ever your cooking for the family
then blitz n add more sauce
be careful of eggs in first couple of days
or thats what many say rofl
runny scrambled eggs or soft poached eggs but make them runny
try and have protein as believe it or not it is more filling for a longer period of time than other stuff

Good morning girls
Losingit....how are you today hun
I went to bed with you on my mind last night
thinking back to a few times in my journey i had been disappointed
the last fill i had i ended up having to have 1ml of it removed and then come home n wait 3 mths to be seeing him again
so though not the same experience I was bitterly disappointed as i couldnt even ring n say can i see him as im here in sydney n my doc is in hobart
I hope you pampered yourself last night
and that you are feeling better today
telling you to move on it sounds so flippant
but I think most of us relate to you
Im going to say stay strong and smile
we are all here for you to support you

Morning All..
It's absolutely freezing here and my sons idea of a good day is to go get gloves and go for a drive up the Mt Wellington to play in the snow..."I don't think so"
Though maybe a drive down to Margate would be nice to have lunch at a winery..I'm sure they'd have "Soup blasted soup" on the menu!!
Goodness me doyou,
I think it was about five days before the backdoor opened LOl and I was drinking pear juice and Zippy's baked bean and Tomayo soup recipe for days.Last night was the first time I could come close to sleeping on my side (even pain killers didn't help ..I think it a matter of time) in any comfort and i was banded on the 26th June!
I took a De-gas chewable tablets for the wind and walked around a lot..This was the only thing that helped..I was up walking around the house in the middle of the night looking for that elusive burp!!

Bally you cant have metamucil anymore now you have the band it will block the band.
some people swear by pear juice.. But maybe you are better off with a chemist prep
You should go soon its fairly common to have your backdoor jammed for the first 5 or 6 days...just remember your not eating much so therefor not much is gonna come out. |

Hey all, its ages since I wrote. I wanted to thank those of you who posted some kind comments earlier this week for me. I was so touched i had to have a little cry when I found them (Awww)!
Ballyhoo, it took me a week to poo. I used a stool-softener recommended by the chemist that came as a liquid designed for people who are bed-bound. It tasted like cough mixture but you only needed to take it in similar proportions and it contained aspartame so the kJ content was minimal. I can get the name of it if you would find it useful. |

Hi again,
Yep it was Dr Watson in Perth, I didnt speak to him re pain, saw him very briefly post op but I did speak to the Nurses on the ward, and they said that the wind/reflux pain is often worse than the surgery pain.
I have to say I feel 100% since this morning. Im really worried about gall bladder playing up but so far so good. Can I ask a groooooss question? When did everyone P o op afterwards? That prune juice is DISGUSTING and Im not sure theres anything in me to get rid of!!! Am I worried too early? I guess I never appreciated my own bowel movements before... how odd!
Did everyone hit the prune juice/metamucil early or just leave it...for how long?
Im just so grateful I can sleep on my side again! |

Oh Losingit!!!
Who is your surgeon? Fancy letting an "Assistant" try to do a fill!!!
I know mine (Dr Watson in Perth) does all his own fills.
I cannot believe that you were not weighed either? No wonder you are down.
My first fill is early August (5 weeks after my banding) as I am flying so Dr Watson wanted to wait until after the plane flight to do the first fill.
Cheer up - tomorrow is another day!!
