re Dr Lockie and no gap. ,
Yes,I was told ((if in a FUND))
he charges no gap for his surgical fee ,
He is only DR I know to do this in Brisbane
all these others are before /after ,the surgery
remember ,
a lot can be claimed back for them
the fees are all available from his office
maybe doing the others over a few months may help your budget
also asking your gp for a enhanced medical plan
may assist costs re dietitian ,phyc etc
take care ,Doreen |

| re Dr Lockie and no gap. Are you saying he charges no gap for his surgical fee and what with all those allied health professionals who work with him there must be some out of pocket involved? |

Laura
Some people can have soft drinks and some can't. For example I can gulp a soft drink but I always have a couple of sips first to make sure it goes down OK, sometimes even sipping it might go down the wrong way. When I know the sips go down OK then I know it's safe to gulp if I want to. My niece who is banded can't even sip a soft drink at any time so she has to avoid them totally. If you're drinking cans of diet soft drinks then you are one of the lucky ones. Don't worry about it, enjoy it. Some people gulp a soft drink to remove a blockage but if my niece did that she'd be in even more pain and grief as a result of the soft drink, not just what the blockage was causing.
The first few years banding commenced people were told to avoid soft drink because it could stretch the pouch. These days with so many banded people drinking soft drinks for many years and not stretching the pouch the soft drink rule isn't as strict as it used to be. Personally I don't recommend people drink soft drink until six weeks after banding because it takes six weeks for the insides to heal. After that there's no reason why you can't try sipping soft drink to see if you can tolerate it or not. For those new people if you sip soft drink and the first time you have a problem don't be put off, a few days later you might have it again without any problem. I've been banded 4 years and I still have an occasional day that I call a 'soft drink bad day' just like 'a bad hair day' it doesn't happen every day.
Good to read you have restriction, if you can continue to eat oranges you are luck because I can eat just about anything, steak, rice, pasta but when it comes to fibrous fruit like orange and mandarin I tend to avoid it although grapes, rockmelon, apples etc go down a treat.

Hi Leanne, thanks for the "Rules", I wasn't aware of most of them, and don't follow many of them... hence the problem! Since my last post, I've had another ml put in and OMG! FINALLY I have restriction! Can only eat half and orange then I feel full... just have to learn to stop when I feel full and not finish off what I am eating out of habit or to save from "wasting" it. Just wondered, how come we can't drink soft drinks? I have one maybe two cans of diet soft drink most days and don't have any pain. Can they cause problems?
cheers, thanks for your help

Hey D.... mmmm, how frustrating. You have tried all the usual remedies, so I would suggest that you now do nothing. Do not try to bring up whatever it is that you feel is stuck. Maybe it is a bit of swelling that has given you the feeling of something being there that shouldn't be. Stick to clear fluids with no lumps, no nothing in it. Just some juice or beef consomme, that sort of thing.
If it is still causing you problems tomorrow you had better let your surgeon know as you are still very much in the early phase and should not be causing stress on your band.
I am sure you will be fine, but as I said, if you think that you do have something stuck and it does not feel any better tomorrow, ring the surgeon and let them know of your discomfort.
I hope you can have a decent nights sleep in the meantime.

| Hi, I was banded 2.5 weeks ago. I have been following the diet but I think I have something stuck. Last night I had a beef soup. There was only a small amount of beef in the soup and it was very tender. I did chew the beef well but about 8 hours after I had tea I felt a lump in my throat. I have no pain except a lump in my throat, its not a major lump, just annoying. I can drink and eat and have had only fluids today except a small amount of clear soup tonight. Have tried to bring up what I think is stuck, but to no avail. I have tried fizzy drinks, eno, and even meat tenderiser!. I am positive there is something stuck, any suggestions? As I can still drink and eat etc. do you think it will pass. My Lap Band Dr. lives 8hrs away. So any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks D |
