Re:Brisbane Bandsters?? Reply to this message
hi Leanne I have had a couple of lovely ladies into my cafe and all are so pleased to see that I am able to oblige with the serving sizes etc. I basically have a menu that can be adapted to a bandit all they have to do is tell me that they have a lapband and I will serve it accordingly. The prices are lower than what I have on my menu boards you just have to ask. I am after some easy to prepare foods that you or anyone else would like to eat when out. I even have my daughter now understanding the 30min between food and drink LOL. I can seat 12 people outside and 18 inside. Various size tables mind you. All the outside chairs are alumin strong and sturdy brand new in fact and the inside are quite generous in seating width and also quite sturdy. All have arms but the width is quite good. Seperate billing is a given as you order and pay at the counter one by one if you wish. I have smoothies for those on fluids and Multi Veg drink I also have thick and creamy roast pumpkin soup for those on puree stage and the mains are very gentle and dont get stuck. Unless you eat too quick. By all means drop in and say hello as some of the others have. Would love to see you.

Re:Brisbane Bandsters?? Reply to this message
Happy to report that in the two weeks since my band was last tightened, I have lost 4 kilos! Am so very happy. Have even walked a little (3 times in two weeks). The first time in months that I have done any exercise.

I find that anything cold seems to make the band tighter and it is also tighter in the mornings. Am starting to eat smarter and not having so many food stuck attacks.

There is certainly a very fine short line between "ooh, I think I'm starting to get full" and "oh my gosh, the pain the pain!". Am starting to learn that when I get the feeling of starting to get full, to stop then and not try to have one or two more mouthfulls, no matter how yummy the food as it is just not worth it!

All in all a very happy little October 08 Bandit!

cheers
julia

Re:Brisbane Bandsters?? Reply to this message
Hi Tracey

Your cafe sounds fantastic, in the near future I'll organize a get-together there, some of us from the Gold Coast would love to come and check-out your cafe and Cleveland on the waterfront is such a pretty place I love having a reason to go there again.

The first and last time I went to Cleveland I had only intended going to Cleveland but ended up going down to check out the ferry but then ended up on the ferry/barge and went over to the island and went up to the the park on the clifftop and watched the whales frolic, such bliss.

I'll let my surgeon's team know about your cafe, they are in the process of scouring the Gold Coast for 'band friendly' restaurants and those that aren't already band friendly, the team are educating them on patients with surgery who can't eat standard size meals only entree/child size meals. Many restaurant refuse to serve entree sizes or don't allow Child Meals to be served to adults but on showing a Surgeron's Card stating the person has a medical condition that prevents them from eating standard size meals, the team are hoping restaurants will allow Child Meals to be served. Then the surgery will advertise those restaurants to their Bariatric Patients. I feel the team would be interested in Brisbane area too because many of their patients are from Brisbane.

Regarding you're Lap Band Menu, is that available on Sundays too? How many people does your cafe hold? Are your chairs strong, i.e. able to support obese people? We avoid cafes with Directors Chairs or weak looking chairs that don't look like they will support obese people. Is separate billing for each person allowed?

I'm thinking we might go your cafe for lunch during whale season and make a whole day outing of it, i.e. go to the island in the morning before lunch at say 1pm and those that aren't interested in Whale Watching can meet us at the cafe.

Re:Brisbane Bandsters?? Reply to this message
thanks guys I have liquid and mushies and solids LOL a lot of people dont understand what they are but I let them in on the lingo for bandits. The main reason we set up the cafe was for options and the healthy eating instead of the fried and greasy stuff you find everywhere. Portion size is a big issue in most cafe's or restaurants so I know how much you can have and what we should be eating. I have found thru my own experience when food gets stuck and when I have had too much LOL we all do it. Please drop in anytime we are open Mon to Fri 8-4 and Sunday 8-2 I am wanting to start a southside meeting place on a Saturday. I am open to more suggestions for our menu so post them or email me at cafe401@aapt.com . a u have to put the spaces or it thinks im swearing LOL. Drop in to Cafe 401 at 104 Bloomfield St Cleveland. we offer organic coffee and milk and soy for the real healthy ones he he but the main aim is to offer alternative to big meals and be sensible about what you put in your mouth. look forward to those menu suggestions or drop in to try ours. cheers Tracey

Re:Brisbane Bandsters?? Reply to this message
hi there havent been on for a while and keep missing the meets but I can explain. I was banded on the 18th Dec 2008 and have lost just on 15 kilos. Pretty good considering I am a chef and run my own cafe in Cleveland. Im interested in setting up meets for those that live down my way or just another location on a Saturday when my cafe is normally closed. not trying to pinch anyone just offering an alternative or another excuse to get together for a chat and coffee. The sunday's for me are my busiest day and therefore I cant get away. Let me know if anyone interested and I would be more than happy to open the cafe for the day. I do have a lapband menu in my cafe and would love to hear any suggestions that any of you have, for some varity for my regular customers. cheers and stay well Tracey

Re:Brisbane Bandsters?? Reply to this message
Hi Leanne, thanks for your post on the 4th answering my questions. I have had more fill since my last post and oh my goodness, the "Band Fairy" as my surgeon calls it, has certainly visited! I can't eat very much and a lot of things are getting stuck and coming back up.... I'm so happy! This is what I wanted... a physical way to stop me from over eating... and looks like I finally got it! But Lordy.... doesn't it hurt like heck when something gets stuck! I can't even talk when it happens!
Hoping now to start dropping the kilos!

To all bandits in waiting or thinking of being banded.... one piece of advice... don't tell anyone about the band unless you have to... otherwise you will get people continually asking you how much weight you've lost and if like me, you don't lose any until the band has enough fill in it... it will wear thin after a while. Everyone has an opinion and something to say and it drives me mad. "Think of all the money you spent"... "just don't eat/buy the chocolate" etc etc blah blah blah.

so spare yourself the possible pain and only tell a very select few!

thanks again Leanne
you are a wise and helpful lady
cheers
Laura

Re:Brisbane Bandsters?? Reply to this message
what a great meetup
we had on sunday

this was our biggest meet up yet
(40 including a couple of littlies )

and what a meet up ,
so much fun for all

thanks to all who came and chatted and helped calm nerves for newbies

I personally got home after 5pm ,
(and had not eaten ,lol,)
so that tells you a bit ,
it was a really busy , meet up

yes
we had
lots of laughs (especially those doing quiz's )
met ,lots of newly banded
and helped lots of people to make informed choices
As well as calming nerves of those getting ready to be banded

my main concern honestly is a few experiencing problems

TO THESE PEOPLE I SAY THANKS
<FOR COMING >
and FOR NOT HIDING AND GIVING UP

AS this is why I started running meet ups as it is so easy to give up
I TOO almost was ready to give up a few times

PLEASE
DO not be afraid of failure
I will work with you ,((just ask ))

please if struggling ,
do come along ,as this is what I am hoping for so we can assist you all ,

also please remember plateaus happen with banding also

REMEMBER this band can /will work
we just need to fine tune it and learn , how to work it

IF it is NOT working ask me
If I can support you

thats my main goal in helping this group ,
so that your band can do for you ,
what mine has for me
AS it has (totally changed my life ) take care ,Doreen

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at the meet on Sat who's brains I picked about the surgery, especially Doreen for instantly welcoming my husband and I and answering all the questions we had. I am ringing surgeons this week to make initial appointments. Hopefully I will meet you all again, but I will definately be keeping in touch via this website. Keep up the great work everybody. Lita
