Hi Mckerlie,
Has your surgeon/GP checked you for gallstones? No expert am I..but I had my gallbladder out about a year before my band...the worst indigestion I had ever had in my life and I never had any idea I had gallstones...don't have a problem now though !! A lot of overweight people have problems with gallstones...so maybe worth a check.
Cheers

Hi,
Obviously I am not qualified to give you any medical advice, but I would seek a second opinion. Reflux and heartburn was the main symptom of my band slipping (its now been replaced). As you have had it loosened and still had the problem, I would ask for a barium swollow to rule this out.
Its not normal and you shouldn't have to live in this discomfort.
Cheers,

mckerlie,
You are way, way more experienced than I (just 4 weeks post banded) but I have experienced this for years pre- banding and suffering greatly from not being able to burp since banding.
Couple of thoughts - my doc says that most indigestion and reflux post banding occurs as a result of gas getting caught in the big stomach below the band and staying stuck or coming up with a sudden gush. If this is so - are you drinking bubbles? are you swallowing air in other ways eg chewing gum? Are you eating foods that produce lots of indigestion/reflux/heartb urn - for me it was things like cucumber, garlic, chilli, cooldrink, onion, anything remotely spicy. If so get rid of them from your diet- for me it was a small price to pay not to have the pain.
The reason milk works is that it puts a lining on the stomach which protects it from damage from the foods causing the indigestion/reflux/heartb urn. This is virtually what the tablets do....protects the lining from damage and controls the acid levels. Maybe it would be worth trying other meds...or maybe degas tablets or peppermint tea??
Good luck in finding an answer - the pain of these things is awful.
Cheers

Hi everyone out there,
I just wanted to post a thread asking if anyone has any severe post lap-band problems and what they did to remedy it?
I have had my lap-band for 5 years, and for 3 of those I have been suffering for severe heartburn and reflux. Recently over the past 6 months it has got worse.
I went back to my surgeon who told me It would go away if i took tablets. I tried that but they came back up in the form of acid. I then had the band losened but that only caused me to gain 6 kgs.
Has anyone else had these problems and what did you do??
The only thing that is helping is drinking milk, but that is not a long term solution :)
Thanks for reading and I look forward to you responces
Cheers, mckerlie :) |
