Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
Hi there, this is floss, am just wondering, if anyone can tell me, if they had to have their band repositioned, and is it less painful, than having the initial lapband surgery. I have a slip, doctor says it has to be repositioned. I am more nervous than ever, I do so want this band to work for me

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
Wendy,
Just read your post and hope this helps despite your message being from January. Fairly recently a anti-reflux medication called Zantac became available without needing a script and it's available in chemists and even in supermarkets now. It costs about $8 for 12 tablets. Zantac has been around for years but now there are other medications like Somac and Nexium which are newer but you do need a script for them. I'd get the whole thing checked out when you can but maybe Zantac could help short term.
Good Luck!
Cat.

Taz,

There are a number of us that have had port infections. I am fortunate mine wasn't removed because of the infection but I have 2 serious port infections and I am currently on my 3rd port for other reasons.

There is a woman on here who has just had her port replaced after having it out for a number of months because of infection. i hope she reads this message soon.

Taz, you are not alone. Many unfortunately have this problem. It is not common, but it does happen. I hope that you get treatment soon and it heals and you are back on track soon.

Hi Wendy, have you seen your surgeon about it? That is a sign that all is not right. You should get it checked out.

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
Hi all,

I have just finished reading thousands of posts re reflux and night coughs as I am suffering from both of these. I just want to know if I need a prescripton for reflux medication or if I can just get it over the counter. I live in a remote area and it's hard to access a Dr sometimes. Cheers, Wendy.

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
This thread seems to sum up with all the same problems as i am having.
Cut a long story short. I have had to have all my fill removed due to a enlarged pouch. After a few months I will have the fill slowly returned. there is no garantee that the pouch has returned to a normal size. If not he will operate and move the band up.
I was going so well having lost over 60 kg. but now the weight is returning very quickly!!

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
vivien,

You really need to find a Lap Band surgeon in your area and tell him what is going on, it could be anything from the port trying to detach from the muscle, an infection, or totally unrelated to your banding but it does need to be investigated bu someone who knows at least a little about banding.

Not only because of this problem but you really should be having check ups every 12 months with a banding doctor to make sure every thing is okay and there are no band issues.

If you tell us what area you are in I'm sure someone here can help you find a surgeon in your area.

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
i have had a band in since 2000. weight loss has been fine almost at my ideal weight tummy tuck done. ecxellent result. my problem is
i now have quite a severe pain around by the port sight. i have just had tests and a scan to see if there is a hernia anywhere in the area because when the pain is there it kinda takes my breath away. then it goes. seems to be worse when i do exersise or sometimes even walking upstairs. i have already had my gall bladder out but the pain is similar although not as severe. ended up in hosp the other week but they where unable to feel a hernia due to the port being in the way. i am currently taking diclofenix and co codomol to lesson the pain. its not there all the time. but when it is it really impeeds my day making me walk slower and holding my side. sometimes the pain sems to shift to round the belly button area and under my ribs. the tubing of the band all seems to be in place as does the port. anyone any ideas on what it can be? oh and i cant go back to my surgeon as due to lack of n.h.s funding i no longer have the surgeon who put the band in as my contact. i currnetly only have my own gp and them at the hospital who have little or no knowledge of lap bands. can anyone shed any light on the subject.

Hi, I am only answering this because I used to have the same problem. I was diagnosed with anxiety and asthma at the same time so my suggestion is that you see your dr.

You made a typo and said you were banded in 2007 but then said it's four weeks since you were banded.

This is an Australian forum although everyone is welcome but you need to be aware some things we refer to won't make sense and vice versa. For example we weigh in kilos not pounds.

Was there any fill put in your band at the time of surgery? Have you had your first post-op fill?

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
reflux medication is expensive but you can ask for the generic version whicj=h is alot cheaper and does the same thing-i am on losec and for the 1st time am taking them and no longer have that horrible heart burn, acid and vomit coming up in my throat when i ly down at nite-also realized that i can not eat in bed or i will suffer all nite-scoffed down a small packet of chips the other day and sufferd all nite wir=th excruciating pain and acid coming up all nite-i actually went to a ent specialist because since being banded my throat has felt sore and restricted and i was sure that i had some form of maybe cancer as i used to be a smoker for 30 yrs-gave up 4 yrs ago-he looked down my throat and said it was all fine but that the acid reflux was coming up into my throat and that i really needed to religiously take my medication-well presto since i have been taking it for 10 day si no longer suffer the pain-what a relief and what a idiot i was to not listen b4 hand and to suffer for so long-reflux is one of the negatives of being banded but it sure doesnt take away from my loss of 43 kilos in 15 months-goal weight and now gone from size 18 to size 19

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
Hi Mela

I agree that it might be caused by stress. When my father died, for a month later I literally had a pain in my heart. I told a psychiatrist about this and he showed me some relaxation breathing techniques, when I left his office I no longer had the pain in my heart and when it did happen from time to time I just did the breathing technique again.

Just take some time out, even play some relaxing music and focus on your breathing, I take a deep breath in through the nose and breath out threw my mouth. Hope it helps.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

can anyone shed some light on this problem. i have an uncomfortable feeling, like constriction I guess, near my lower throat most of the day, each day. I'm wondering whether stress is causing it. I have just lost my mother in thelast couple of weeks. any suggestions on how to relieve that sensation? thanks, Mela

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
I went on Somac about 3 weeks ago.. OMG.. what I life saver.

I never knew I was in so much pain until I had taken Somac for the first time.

I have been banded for over one year, and a few fills in I noticed heartburn got really bad and took Rennie or Mylanta to control it, and a few times I woke up at night coughing for my life like I was choking to death. I told my surgeon and he insisted its because I have too much fill. ( I had heartburn pre-surgery, but I thought that was just because of my size)

In passing one day I mentioned to my GP that I have heartburn "all the time" so he prescribed me Somac, its bloomin expensive, but it works - If I miss one tablet I am in a world of pain in 24hrs.

I also found out that my mum is on the same medication! - so maybe its a little more intricate than just the band, it could be heriditary!?
