Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
I have come across another forum that discusses the problems people have with the band and was quite surprised.

I thought people might want to know about it. I think it is important we all go into this with an open mind and with all the information we can so that we make the right decision. It has not change my mind and I am still going ahead with my surgery on Tuesday but I go in knowing all the facts and all the possiblities.

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
dear beenabeena18

Don't know if I am any help, but I do know the type of pain you are describing. In my case, there is no relationship between eating and the pain. It just happens - sometimes bad, sometimes not so bad.

I've had lots of tests too including stress cardio. and angiogram - nothing!

I think that it, in my case, is adhesions. I had, apparently, a very large hernia repaired at the same time as they put the lapband in... (I did not even know that I had a hernia - no symptoms). I did have a lot of pain after and lived on digesic and panadine forte for 18 days post-surgery.

I thinks that 'things' are sticking inside as the healing occurs from tissue etc. being moved around during the hernia repair and the band placement. I hope that gradually these 'things' will settle down.

In your case - once a month????? Could the pain be linked to something hormonal? Endometrius?

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
Ive had a flipped port that had to be fixed surgically.
Last night I was vomiting blood and sweating like it was goin out of fashion - suspected slipped band. Im looking forward to the same thing possibly happening tonight. They are going to stick something down my throat and take have a look next week.

I still dont regret getting the band. Ive lost 28 kilos, and Ill lose more before Im done.

Most of the problems are easily fixed - just inconvienient. Nothing thats happened has been unbearable or long term.

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
PROBLEMS WITH THE BAND hence why there are people putting in their comments and experiences. You would have to expect there would be some problems with some banndsters as it is a foreign object placed inside your body and not everyone is going to have a perfect run..

Ive been banded for a year and have had problems with it but do not regret loosing 40kg. Something i could of never ever done alone. For those who have had the hernias can you describe the pain?????

I have a rotten pain once a month since 2 weeks after the band was palced for a yr and it goes from the back to the front like I guess a heart attack pain. Ive had more tests then I can write down... still nothing Ive even had my gallbladder removed!!! Anyone who could answer my question it would be much apprciated.

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
Hi there, this is floss, am just wondering, if anyone can tell me, if they had to have their band repositioned, and is it less painful, than having the initial lapband surgery. I have a slip, doctor says it has to be repositioned. I am more nervous than ever, I do so want this band to work for me

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
Wendy,
Just read your post and hope this helps despite your message being from January. Fairly recently a anti-reflux medication called Zantac became available without needing a script and it's available in chemists and even in supermarkets now. It costs about $8 for 12 tablets. Zantac has been around for years but now there are other medications like Somac and Nexium which are newer but you do need a script for them. I'd get the whole thing checked out when you can but maybe Zantac could help short term.
Good Luck!
Cat.

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
Taz,

There are a number of us that have had port infections. I am fortunate mine wasn't removed because of the infection but I have 2 serious port infections and I am currently on my 3rd port for other reasons.

There is a woman on here who has just had her port replaced after having it out for a number of months because of infection. i hope she reads this message soon.

Taz, you are not alone. Many unfortunately have this problem. It is not common, but it does happen. I hope that you get treatment soon and it heals and you are back on track soon.

Hi Wendy, have you seen your surgeon about it? That is a sign that all is not right. You should get it checked out.

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
Hi all,

I have just finished reading thousands of posts re reflux and night coughs as I am suffering from both of these. I just want to know if I need a prescripton for reflux medication or if I can just get it over the counter. I live in a remote area and it's hard to access a Dr sometimes. Cheers, Wendy.

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
This thread seems to sum up with all the same problems as i am having.
Cut a long story short. I have had to have all my fill removed due to a enlarged pouch. After a few months I will have the fill slowly returned. there is no garantee that the pouch has returned to a normal size. If not he will operate and move the band up.
I was going so well having lost over 60 kg. but now the weight is returning very quickly!!

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
vivien,

You really need to find a Lap Band surgeon in your area and tell him what is going on, it could be anything from the port trying to detach from the muscle, an infection, or totally unrelated to your banding but it does need to be investigated bu someone who knows at least a little about banding.

Not only because of this problem but you really should be having check ups every 12 months with a banding doctor to make sure every thing is okay and there are no band issues.

If you tell us what area you are in I'm sure someone here can help you find a surgeon in your area.

Re:Problems with Lap-Band Reply to this message
i have had a band in since 2000. weight loss has been fine almost at my ideal weight tummy tuck done. ecxellent result. my problem is
i now have quite a severe pain around by the port sight. i have just had tests and a scan to see if there is a hernia anywhere in the area because when the pain is there it kinda takes my breath away. then it goes. seems to be worse when i do exersise or sometimes even walking upstairs. i have already had my gall bladder out but the pain is similar although not as severe. ended up in hosp the other week but they where unable to feel a hernia due to the port being in the way. i am currently taking diclofenix and co codomol to lesson the pain. its not there all the time. but when it is it really impeeds my day making me walk slower and holding my side. sometimes the pain sems to shift to round the belly button area and under my ribs. the tubing of the band all seems to be in place as does the port. anyone any ideas on what it can be? oh and i cant go back to my surgeon as due to lack of n.h.s funding i no longer have the surgeon who put the band in as my contact. i currnetly only have my own gp and them at the hospital who have little or no knowledge of lap bands. can anyone shed any light on the subject.
