Oh no, I hope the cost is not too prohibitive! Even if it is, maybe you can arrange to pay it off? I am having a gastroscopy next Thursday, and it is $333 for the anethetisit (yeah that guy) and I get $157 back from medicare, so when you ring them, get the item number so you can check the medicare rebate, it not be as bad as you think.
I've got my fingers crossed that everything goes ok and you will both safely have your surgeries.
My bmi is 43 at the moment, if I can loose a couple more kgs before I see him on the 7th I hope I won't have to have the sleep test either.
Did you have to go back to see Mr Ahmad after your intitial visit to go through anything with him? I forgot to ask simple things like what size bougie he uses and if he does a barium swallow or uses the blue dye leak test during surgery, do you know?

| Hi M2, yes I had my appointment, I was 5 minutes late (got lost) he had left and did not return for 20 minutes whilst I stood in the rain knocking on windows etc but the place was empty, he finally come back, everything after that went ok. Not much of a personality, but efficient. Likes to have a sleep aponea test if bmi is over 45ish, but got away with not having it done. Got another surprise today, the unpleasant sort. I got home from work and found a message on my machine from the anesthesiologist (I know that is spelt wrong, but you know what I mean lol) they left a message that I must call to discuss costs, of course their office was closed. Unpleasant surprise as we were told at the information evening that there would be no out of pocket expenses from the surgery, now I find 6 days before surgery that this is apparently not the case - not happy Jan. I have spoken to Larnzie and she has not received the same call, maybe something to do with different health insurance. If it is mega $$ there might just be a vacancy on Wednesday!!! |

Suzy,
Lovely to meet you (you know what I mean)The picture on the fridge is a great idea, I will get multiple copies so I can do the pantry, freezer and chicken treat drive thru too lol. I am amazed, you have dropped 2 sizes and you are only 4 weeks post op, I hope for as much success. May I ask, how do you feel at 4 weeks, what is you biggest challenge. I have vested interest as I have an overseas holiday planned 4 weeks after my surgery and I cannot cancel without throwing away 4 grand, which I do not want too do. I would love the input. |

Hi,
I just read through your thread, your pre op behaviour is fantastic so hang in there! I also dod the pre op optifast stage and it is a bit boring, but worth the effort to get a kick start. Stick a photo on the fridge of a dress you would like to wear or place you would like to go, make it a good one, and stare at it when you start to feel down.It will help you remember that goal! I am post op 4 weeks and today I had to wear the "old" work pants out of the cupboard, 2 sizes smaller because the old ones were falling off!! Keep your chin up,

WOW, you are doing very well. I hope I have as much luck, must admit, for all the humour I am a bit down today. 1 week on optiyuk and although the clothes seem more comfortable, the scales say 1.7kg down for a week of basically starvation. Not sure what I should have been expecting, but in Cathy's reality I expected more...... thus I ate.... Chicken, a small amount, but broke the diet for the first time in 8 days and I should feel guilty, but I don't, I will work harder tomorrow. You and I are starting at very similar weights, I only hope my change of lifestyle after surgery brings me as much success - Larnzie and I do in fact have a blog although it is really only the same posts as here at this stage as we have not had much time to set it up, but photos and the likes will come in the future, the address is: http://cathy-and-larnzies-journey.blogspot.com/ You are welcome to take a peak. best wishes

Wow you both impress me so much.
All that exercise, opti and positive attitude will get you there so fast.
Im a new bandit (but started at similar weight as Cath I think) of 127.8. 2 weeks post op Im 120.9 which is good.
See that opti does work and think how much your liver will love you.
If you transfer your chats to a blog post your address. I love the updates.
Cheers

Day 7
Optifast, Optifast, Optifast, I eat it, dream it and live it...... Each day now rolls around much the same as the last, so I will skip the lack of food bit and go onto the exercise for the day. I was supposed to meet "Louise" aka Larnzie at hers and we were going to get out the exercise bike and rowing machine. However, a much better option was raised, so............ We painted her kitchen and dining room, 3 hours later it looks great, we got plenty of exercise and achieved something at the same time..... I did leave her with the cleaning up - thats what you get for laughing at my toilet 200mtr dash Larnz. Anyway, have avoided the scales today YAY but only cause mind are crud and Larnzies are flat (battery) the clothes seem a little looser but it could be wishful thinking. Anyway 24 days to go.................. |

Day 6....
Another boring Opticrud day. Went to work....so tired. Actually went to the loo and laid my head against the partition thinking if I took off my shirt it would make an ok pillow, however soldiered on and felt ok in a couple of hours. Took another chance on the scales - about the same - please someone stop me doing this. Went to the pool for a lap or two and that is about all I honestly did, however the spa was lovely. The males of the family ordered tea at the gym, it looked and smelt divine... I had to leave, the pizza and chips where not only calling me they were screaming and my 19 (nearly) year old thought it was hilarious (whats that, can I have some money mum.. ahhhhhh - NO). Anyway, made it home, cooked some vegies which was YUK and then settled in for a night with the tellie. Have not had one of them in a while. Louise aka Larnzie called and we made our plans for tomorrow night, walking and rowing machines here we come. 15 days to go... |

Last night I made a fatal mistake my friends, and mixed a little to much Metamucil with my Vanilla shake and before I new it I was eating was appeared to be a lite orange concrete, that much so that i required a spoon to eat it. I might add my significant other thought was particularly funny.
today i was greeted with a sudden awakening at 2am by the significant other again informing me that i was required to take him to the airport for his flight. So it was back to bed for some sleep on my return, then up again at 4.45am to get ready for work.
Drank my Vanilla (with a lot less Metamucil) and went off to work, power walked from Perth Train station to Williams Street. and proceeded to spend the rest of the day dashing off to the toot managed to drink 1.5 Lt of water just after lunch. Had a light salad at 3 just getting to the next drink, have managed to cop a break and all children have dispersed themselves to other houses so thinking might ring Thelma and see if she wishes to walk or swim..... must keep moving or will be sleeping and bleems its only 4.22 in afternoon i need to move or will be worse or tomorrow. |

Day 5
Nothing really exciting to report. Met Simon at the Gym and we went over chronic pain and the actions I need to take with my back which all made sense. When he left I hit the pool for 30 minutes of walking, I then seen something brown bobing at the bottom of the pool with a little ring of brownish water around it...... hm says my head..... chokito??? Picnic???? hang on its neither of those things RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN. Needless to say I reported the little intruder and left the pool. Might wait a day or two before going back. Hunger seems to be more under control and I have a little more energy so I presume the body has now given up on starvation mode and is deciding to start on the fat stores. Don't really see the problem, its not like it does not have enough fat to last it a year or two... greedy thing. Anyways, still sticking rigidly to the diet, have found the weekends a little tougher than the week. Being at work there is more going on and less time to myself so hopefully next week will be a breeze.... I know, I just jinxed myself. 16 days to go.......... |

Day 2 Thur
As above, with a visit to the personal trainer to tell me what i do and dont do..... then a swim/walk with Thelma.. We spoke and walk that i forgot what time it was and we walked for ages. again feeling good and working hard to achieve all.
Day 3 Friday
Again with the food. This time Thelma and I change our swim location, however we did a repeat effort chatted and waddled for and hour and half. again feeling good, but all that water during the day was taking its toll and i feel like i sat on the toot for hours when i got home. Had purchased a 1.5 ltr water bottle so as to ensure that i drank enough.
Day 4 Sat
I too was tempted to do what Thelma had done, and jump on what i class and my worst enemy (the scales) but my luck was good as i remembered that the battary needed changing so that was out. I had a 40th party to attend and i broke my promise and had 4 very watered down midori and lemonades. backed it up with lots of water.
Day 5 Sun
Slow day today, not as much water as i would have liked but back to work tomorrow so have girls there that will make sure i drink my water. did some walking and will arrange to pool walk with Thelma in a day or so..
no i am up todate from now on the entries should be less and more interesting Im sorry if i have bored you. but like Thelma i believe that this will make it that little easier to stick to my gunwith the daily chat with hopefully lots of new friends who will understand every step of what Thelma and I are going throu.
chat soon Larnzie (Louise) |

Hi one and all,
My name is Larnzie to most, Alana to others, and I'm the "Louise" in Cath and my relationship.
where do i start..... at the biggining is always good but i dont want to get writers cramp so ill just suggest for now that the my journey began with the removal of some cancer and a blood pressure of 191/135 in the recovery room, and 160/100, 4 days later on a doctors visit.
And the realisation that something needed to be done to help me .......
I had all intentions of getting started on day one with my share of the blog, but it was not to be. however i can give an up date of the days that have been.
Monday managed to do a duo visit to see specialist with Thelma, the whole way along he has called me Cath and Cath me, so we figured might as well be in there together and get date to have hospital stay together. and the Date was set we are to have operation on the 30th April be there at 11. any other time i would be- its ok i can sort this out without a stay in hospital and look for any reason not to go..... but this time with Thelma beside me i was ready to take it on.
We walked out of there date and time in hand and knowledge that we had 2-3 week of optifasting ahead... so we planned and off we went to the closest chemist. Many packets later we
and the knowledge that we were not alone, we gave ourselves a two day grace to get our heads around it.
Wake up tum here it comes. mmmmmmm yummmmm chocolate ........... optifast.
day 1 Wed
breakfast 250 ml water choco optifast.
lunch repeat of breakfast
dinner repeat of breakfast and lunch.
with water and one cup coffee and one can coke zero
many trips to toilet
Feeling good about self and happy with progress. yep i can nail this |

| Hi all Im Louise the other half of Thelma, also known as Larnzie or Alana, and once i get myself sorted out i shall update the other half of our blog.. I have to say that i cant believe the amount of support that is offered, if i had only known that there was this much i might have sorted my decision to have the sleeve earlier rather then waitng for the doctor to remind me that i hadnt used the referral. |

| You are all so wonderful and supportive with loads of realy helpful information. I hope you know how much it helps. I had a bit of a down day yesterday, made the mistake of getting on the scales and expecting to see something after 4 days of very strict optifast and exercise, stupid me, the only thing I saw is that I have put on 4-5 kilos - new scales clearly different but I was VERY disappointed. Opened the cupboard, looked at the cheese biscuits that were already open (lord forbid, I can walk past closed packets, but the open packets seem to be able to yell louder - eat me, EAT ME, must be that they are not muffled by cardboard lol)closed the cupboard again and drank a about 1/2 a litre of water. I am so thick, why did I get on those scales. Will put them down in the shed where all stupid mechanical divises belong. Yesterday was pretty uneventful other than this, I tried the chicken optifast soup and found I can live with it, although the aftertaste leaves a bit to be desired, my bad breathe is better than the aftertaste it leaves lol. Did not exercise today as per Simons request but I think all of the water in conjunction with the dieretic in my hbp tablets is flushing the tablets out too quickly, massive headaches the last two days, the type you only get when your bp is up. Have not had any caffeine in my diet for over 3 months so its not that. Will have to take my tablet first thing in the morning and wait a while before the water and optifast start and see how I go. Thanks you very one. Still on track (just) 17 days to go............. |

I felt comfortable in bike shorts and tshirt nighties as they where longer than a tshirt. You just pop the drain down the leg of your shorts as you pull them up not a drama. the 2 best things i took to hospital with me where a new jar of olay total effects which I used to moisturise my hands face arms neck you name it, hang the expensie, it was worth the $25 for 2 weeks to feel nice all over. The other was oil of olay moist wipes I used them instead of any other wipes they again made me feel fantastic. Every nurse I had commented on my amazing soft skin they even brought other nurses in to toch me *LOL* It is just worth pampering your skin while in hospital, so budjet for the nice stuff and use it like it is the cheap cheap stuff all over.
