newbj, I posted a vegetable soup on the Recipe thread a couple of days ago - it is a WW point free version. Looks very similar to Losingit's. You can use that as a base and add any allowed veges from the Optifast stage.

Leeanne / Cuddles (or anyone who feels like giving input),
Anyone have a weird theory that having a day or two of eating fattening foods actually causes weight loss?? Stimulates the metabolism??
I've eaten brie for two days now. Plus also this full fat dip with sliced chicken breast. And I've droped 2 kg.
The other theory is that I was desiring the fatty foods because my body was dropping the weight??

Newbj,
I must admit I don't really have a recipe, but last week I used:
4 large zucchini
1/2 cabbage
1/2 bunch celery
2 large tins diced tomatoes
onions - dunno, about 5 or 6
some stock cubes
water to cover
Cooked until veges were soft. Check for seasoning - add some salt/pepper if it needs it. Blitzed, kept most in the fridge, whatever would fit in the freezer. Probably will last me about 2 weeks or so, having approx 1.5 cups a day.
I toast half a m u f f in, and cut into croutons to stir into the soup.
Really . . . just use any of the veges that are allowed on Opti and make your own blend.
I'm going to make some chicken and corn soup in the next few days. LOVE my soup in winter.
Might make another batch of vege soup next week. |

| Just a suggestion for cooler weather: make some soup! I made a big pot of vege soup last week (all low-starch veges) and have been having that to fill me up. It's good for me, it's hot, and it doesn't do too much damage. |

Yes the cooler weather has had me looking for food too. But as I've spent the last 36 hrs in bed with a nasty ?virus, I've hardly eaten a thing.
I actually rang the nurse that works with my Dr yesterday morning as I was a bit worried. I woke up on Wed night coughing with reflux - first time ever. It felt like it took ages to clear my throat, but then went back to sleep. All day on Wed I had the feeling that I was full up to my throat, even though I was still able to eat a bit. Obviously I 'was' full up as I had the night reflux.
Woke up a few hours later cold and shivering and gathered together 3 doonas, a quilt, trackie daks and a thermal skivvy before I could get warm. I was having a rigor but at the time wasn't thinking straight I suppose. When I woke up a bit later of course I was hot as, and the brain clicked and I had a bit of a feel around for the thermometer. Couldn't find, so back to bed. Woke up in the am and found the thermometer, and was 38.9 deg which is a bit high.
I had no other symptoms apart from the fever, so my brain immediately went to infected port, aspiration pneumonia, hospital, operation and straight after that death! Can you tell I work in health?? The nurse said to see how I am and to go in today if I was still worried.
I had 0.25 ml fill early last week, and have been fine restriction wise up til this Wed. It feels fairly tight still, but I'm pretty sure the fill is ok. I think it must have been a coincidence that it was tight on Wed, then I ate too much, then had the reflux and the onset of some sort of bug within a few hours. My port is not sore or red or painful, so I have calmed down a bit now.
The silver lining?? Very close to 100kg on the scales.... |

B- Cappuccino, Fruche w pepitas and sunflower seeds
L - Wholemeal tortilla with shortcut bacon, mayo, tomato and lettuce
S - Bellis fruit bar
D - 1/4 C rice with 1 apricot chicken drumstick, green beans

Shadesail/Jen,
Yes, you are quite right. I know that the sleeve is step one of a proper bypass. The sleeve is more appealing as it doesn't involve shortening of the intestinal tract. Someone had asked about the amount of food you eat compared with your weight loss. On first glance it looks as though you eat more than us banders. Perhaps they don't realise that you have malapbsorption going on, so that you are only getting a portion of the calories. The bypass used to be most appealing to me because of that. I thought I could still eat the same junk but only absorb a little of the cals - stupid logic! I know that you aren't able to eat too much sugar due to possible dumping syndrome?? That certainly would be a positive for sweet addicts, like myself.
I don't toast the pita bread. It is in the freezer, and I zap it to defrost on high for 10 seconds. Although as of yesterday, I think I will stop doing that. I'm unsure if I have a tummy virus or whether the bread was stuck. I have had trouble swallowing ever since and my stomach "burned".
Only had fluids today so far.

I've been off the air for a few days - it feels like my brain has been turned off. All of a sudden I seem to have 'forgotten' that I have a band, and have been trying to eat all sorts of things that then came back up. Weird.
Today I feel a bit back to normal, and as there is a low pressure system hovering over the house it is wet and windy and a bit cool. Gives you that soup feeling. I'm going to have some pea and ham soup etc the next few days and get the volume of food back to the way it should be. It has been a very funny few days...

Fluff, I would highly recommend the sleeve to anyone wanting a review surgery as the bypass is quite a full on op. Your food diary sounds yum..mmm tzatziki...are you toasted the pita bread in the oven and dipping it?
There was a mention earlier about chowmein, I loved it when I had my band and I make it know about once a fortnight. I use half a cabbage, carrots, capsicum, brocolli, zuchini, rice noodles and mince. I use curry powder, soy sauce, crushed garlic and chicken stock to flavour. It's great way to get lots of veggies and if you use lean mince its a great meal and freezes well.
If anyones stuck for ideas theres some great recipes on the recipe thread.

Thanks for the info Jen/Shadesail. It might be just me, but I have often wondered if I would go the bypass if the band failed for some reason.
TODAY
=====
Breakfast - 1 weetbik with pura skim milk
Snack - half a 250ml Up and Go, LITE (new style)
Lunch - 1/3 500ml bottle of Lipton white tea and raspberry
Snack - half a wholemeal pita with tzaziki
Snack - 1 50 cal lifesaver ice block
Dinner - 2 campbell's cuppa soups (spaced about 2 hours apart).
I seem to have picked up a tummy flu an only feel like fluids. The pita bread went down like lead.

Im going to start keeping track of what im eating because I havent been and i really have no idea what im eating day by day.
Id also like a little more restriction - one more fill might do it - but going on a round the world trip for two months next month and dont want another fill yet in case something goes wrong while im away.
Im not on a diet, but im curious about volume -
brekky: I NEVER eat brekky (just not hungry)
lunch: 1 cuppa soup, 1/2 cup caesar salad
Dinner: 1 large cup s'getti bol
Drinks: water and 1 hot chocolate
no snacks

unzippin,
funny thing is since the op I don't feel hungry, it's kinda odd, i'm told it's because my body no longer can produce grelin (the hunger hormone), so I have to mindful that my tummy doesn't grumble and also I don't feel full in the traditional sense either. Some days I eat more and less than what I listed, but I love that I can have grainy bread or turkish bread and rolls when i'm out and that I can eat with my family for dinner, which I struggled to do with my band as it was always overfilled.
I've lost 26.8kg and my op was the 12th may, the weight loss has slowed but each week I lose between 1 and 3kg, I obviously have to take a multi everyday but that's really the only maintenance. I can eat pretty much anything, but I avoid anything really fatty and it's incredible to me but I don't eat chocolate like I use to, I use to crave it everyday but now i'm lucky to have it once a week and i'm happy with just a light mars bar or a freddo. Chocolate doesn't seem to taste as good anymore...spins me out.
I can drink with all my meals, but I don't guzzle it down, it was great to finally have a tea with my toast, I had missed that sooo much.
I'm stil recovering slowly as I have had bronchitis now for nearly 7 weeks, that's has made the recovery a bit of a drag but hey, i'm on my third box of antibiotics, so fingers crossed.
I think that was everything, i'm not sure if i'm eating enough or too much, but the weight is coming off and I had started at the gym just over a week ago and had one session but my flu came back with a vengence so the doc has said to put that on hold for another week. I can't wait to get cracking with it though, I felt great afterward and my body shape is changing and I was washing my face lastnight and thought..geez I can actually feel my cheekbones, my face looks odd to me when I catch myself in a mirror.
Thanks for asking...I should go back to the dietician and make sure i'm eating enough/the right stuff.
