Vikki, yes do take multivitamins 9blackmore pregnancy) and all through pregnancy my hb-iron, sugars, vitamin levels ahve been great. I eat only 1/2c. but instead 3 meals a day i have 4-6 meals of 1/2c. (2-3 meals consisting largely of protein) plus 2c. full fat milk. oh and i do admit to liking juice about 1c. day. I have put on 8kg as of this morning and am 34 weeks, the ob, lapband surgeon and gp are very happy.

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
I totally agree about keeping a food diary...that is how I lost those last niggly kgs that just don't want to shift.
A food diary keeps you honest ( well only if you include everything that passes your lips LOL ) I guess the best way to put it, is that it make you 'accountable'.

Oh and eventually you also have to "Move it to Lose it"!
Exercise is key.

Gee Diana I do hope you are drinking a protein drink daily and taking vitamins so that your baby is getting all the nurtients it requires. Only 1/2 cup food per sitting when pregnant doesn't seem near enough.

Yes everyone's journey is different and most find different sweet spots with their fills too! I'm on just over 6mls in a 10 ml band. I reached my sweet spot about 8mth post op and lost between 43 - 45 kg in the first 12 months ( it seems so long ago I've forgotten exactly ) I eventually went from approx 130kg pre band to 65kgs. I still today have the same amount of fill and have been maintaining 65kg for 12 mths. ( I was banded in Oct 06 )

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
A food diary is a good idea for me, it's remarkable how differently i do eat compared to what i 'think' i eat.
Thats on the less as well as the too much side. It allows me to see what im doing on paper.
I'd liken it a little to seeing one's self in the mirror compared to a photo, quite a difference ( for myself anyway).

Cheers Purr

Thanks for the input. Any further input appeciated.

I wonder how I can convince the doc. that I am not cheating since he is sure that the band must be working! May start keeping a food diary - or change doctors.

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
oBREINSELINA, Just as eevryone looks diffferent, everyone's stomach is different. some ahve thicker walls than others. the thicker the wall of your stomach the less fill you need than someone with exactly same band in same spot. (think of thick hair in hair band). After years of dietcoke abuse, reflux plus family history of stomach/oesogus thickness my stomach is very thick (and am only 24). So when the doctor went to put my 10ml mid band in the doctor was only able to put in 1.5mls ( the manufacture recommends inserting it with 3.2 as to inflate the band). At my pick of restriciton/weightloss i was still only sitting at 2.4mls and losing over 1kg a week and having huge no food lsit like chicken bread, pasata, rice apples etc. Even now 7months pregnant with no fill i still have no foods and cant eta more than 1/2c. Where as another lady done 1 month after me, with same band, and doctor it took her til 8mls to fill anything, she ahd to basicllay prove to surgeon she wasnt cheating it jsut wasnt working, so the surgeon end up filling her little getign her dirnk filling her more until she reach the sweet spot in his office. She has now lost alot weight but it took many months for her to even start losing weight. My surgeon says 6mls is the average sweet spot but as i pointed out for me i wouldnt be able to swallow and for the other patient she would ahve absoultley no restriction.

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
Hi,
In reply to your post I have a 10ml band with 5mls of fill at the moment. Weight loss is .5kg per week (too slow for my liking), but I feel the same as you do. I have been able to eat everything that I have tried so far without any problems (bread/rice/meat), but again am trying to avoid too many carbs. I feel my weight loss has more to do with me than the band at the moment and I am having to stop myself from serving up portions larger than a cup full at meal times and I know I am not truely doing this successfully (I have been told by the clinic nurse that things will change once I reach my level of restriction - feel like this may be a life time away) - guess I just want the quick fix for what is, or has been a life long condition to date !!!! So just know you are not alone. :)

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
Hi. This is a repost - I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

This is a general question about the amount of fill people have in their bands. I know the docs. say that everyone is different and that there are different bands etc.... However, I am curious.

My doc says I have 10.6 mls in a 13.5 band and that I should be feeling like a choking chook. However, I am able to eat everything I try (I avoid bread, rice and steak) and have not had PB or heartburn or blockages etc.

In fact, I do not eat as much as I would like, even though I am eating well over a cup, closer to two, at lunch and dinner. Breakfast is usually only a half cup of yoghurt and protein powder.

I still get very hungry and certainly do not feel satisfied. I am not losing weight. But the doc. says I must be 'cheating' with ice-cream etc. He does not believe that I am eating the right foods and am still hungry. Anyone else had this problem? What fills do other people have? Thanks.

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
Best tip I can give - is to stay clear of bread altogether. Kick it to the curb!

There are plenty of alternatives - rice cakes, rice crackers, waffers, cruskits etc
If you have always had a sandwich at lunch try your filling on the above mentioned. I have wrapped my filling in a lettuce leaf to steer clear of bread as well as the occasional wrap ( wholemeal tortilla )...yet don't have these too often.
