Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
Hi Mackamom
I had a bad blockage vomiting and could not stop trying to get it up. This went on for 24hours till I got to my private hospital. They put me on a drip anti nausea medication and panadol (I was offered stronger relief but don't like to do that). (I did not want to go to the outpatients as I had been told they could not take the fill out but they could have put me on a drip and some pain relief).
Next day my Doctor took the fill out (yes I was unlucky it happened on a long weekend and the Dr was away) then he ordered a Berra meal (not spelt right) and confirmed it was a blockage and slip. We are not sure if the slip happened and caused the blockage or the blockage caused the slip. I feel the blockage caused the slip. If it had been a week day he would have taken the fill out and hopefully the blockage would have gone through.
I had eaten that day what I had eaten many times before. I still try and think what could have gone wrong and just the other day I remembered that I had not eaten breakfast or even had a drink before I had this food about 12.30pm. I am now wondering if my tubes were dry with not a lot of moisture in there to help with the food going down. Only my thought but will speak to the doctor about it.
Yes you have to go under again and I was very lucky my stomach had not swollen and the Dr was able to reposition the band. If not he would have taken it out and put it in later down the track. Having it repositioned was great as the port site was not affected and that was the tenderest part of the first operation.
You are of course back to square one with the eating and the fills. I am so hungry I could eat a horse but my first fill is next Friday and I can’t wait.
I never want to go through this again but YES I would do it if I had to.
If you have any more question please ask me.
Delia

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
When my band was really tight I couldn't eat very healthy and I couldn't swallow tablets. I was sent to the dietician...she told me to eat 3 to 4 slices of whole meal or multigrain bread a day and yogurt and heaps of foods that I can't eat and if I ate the amounts she suggested I'd be right back where I stared from! She didn't help me at all. She just didn't have a clue about people who have lap bands. She was the one the Doctor referred me to as well!

Hi Delia 4au
What is involved in a slip? How do they fix it? Do you have to go under again?

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
I can't eat boiled or fried egg whites or chicken breast..I can eat the dark meat. I can eat mince but not the whole meat. Sometimes I can eat a certain food then the next time it gets stuck...? I can't eat white bread at all but I can eat multi grain. I can't eat rice and some pastas but I can usually eat a bit of spagette if it is very saucey. Sometimes milk dosen't stay down. I need to sip very slowly. I can't eat any solid foods without drinking while eating.

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
Thanks for that. I am trying the Movicol but no luck yet but it's only been 3 days. I can't take iron by mouth & my vitamins are without iron so I know that's not the problem. I will try the magnesium tablets though. Thanks for the tip.

I tried movecol with no luck. I had to use 3 sachets to even get a slight improvement. It wasnt till I changed vitamin tabs and added the magnesium that things turned around now I go everyday and it is a pleasant experience....I no longer leave finger nail marks in the porcelain!

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
Ucless.... check your vitamin for iron... the iron in it will constipate you... switch to one with out the iron and then take blackmoors bio iron.. it wont constipate you...

Sometimes the addition of calcium in the vitamin tab will also bung you up so taking a magnesium tablet will fix that and you will have softer more regular motions.

I found fibersure much better than benefiber. Try drink more water if you can.

Re:A Typical Banded Day - A Food Diary Reply to this message
Hi D,

Thanks for your answer. I have tried Benifibre to no avail I'm afraid. I saw my GP last night and he gave me a script for Movicol which he said I can use on an ongoing basis.

On the plus side, he hadn't seen me for months and said he didn't recognise me then gave me a big hug to congratulate me on my 30kg!
