By the way, thanks to everyone who has wished me well in this great endeavour. I hope what I have now achieved may encourage someone to reach their goal. 2.5 years ago I believed this was impossible but thanks to my band and the weightloss, I've done it and it feels incredible.

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
Hi all,

Just have to add that I went on a 2 hour bush ride on my horse yesterday. It's a dream come true. She was well behaved but quite fresh to start off with! I handled it all pretty well, thanks to my band I'm riding again after years and years.

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
Lol Mel, thank you so much for your cheer.

I can't believe I have broken that barrier after all this time. I would say the last time I rode weighing 69kgs I would have been about 12 years of age lol.

Now I can't wait to get on her again... and again and again!

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
I finally did it TODAY!!! I got on my beautiful horse and rode her for 45 or so minutes!

She's been at a special trainer's for the last 2 weeks and has made great progress. For me she was perfect, did everything I asked of her and more. I only walked and trotted but it was a monumental achievement for me.

I sobbed all the way home in the car lol!

If I can get back in the saddle after all these years, anyone can.

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
Oh I love this thread - I rode all my life until the mid twenties when I married a non horsey person and then put on 30+ kilos. Used to do the Pony Club, shows, and everything on between, I loved it. My dad had a small quarter horse stud and I had the best horse focussed childhood. Over the years as I got bigger I couldn't bring myslef to ride again - but now that is my aim.

To start riding again, do a Snowy mountains ride and maybe even get a horse again down the track .....

Can't wait to hear what people are doing.

Cheers

Arn :)

Wow Jan,
This time next week you'll really have been back in the saddle!...and possibly looking for a really hot bath and a massage ;)I can't wait to hear how you go. When you swing into that saddle you will prove yourself to be a legend, and an inspiration to the rest of us - you go girl!

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
Hi kate!

Great to see there are other badits out there with the same goal. Mel has done it! She's back in the saddle again so that is just fantastic.

Last weekend I sent my horse off to 'boot camp'. I have not ridden her for years and she needs to be re-educated. I spoke to her trainer today and it looks like she'll be ready for me to get on her this weekend (hopefully). I've lost 60 kgs now, so this is the greatest reward I could give myself. It's a HUGE emotional challenge for me. I sobbed when the float took off with my horse inside last Sunday. It's like I'm coming to the top of my Mt Everest. I'll post again next week and let you all know how it pans out. You'll be at a weight to ride in no time - what a dream to achieve that eh!?

Horsey, tell us a bit more about your situation. perhaps we can all help you get back in the saddle too.

Giddyup everyone!!

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
Well this is exciting - a thread that's perfect for me!
I have always had horses & ridden other peoples horses that needed the sting coaxed out of them - until about 15 years ago(which equates to about 80kg ago that's 80 kg - no typo :0)
I've been banded a bit over 2 months & have lost 25kg. I rang a riding school last week to find out how heavy is too heavy. The chap told me that they can accomodate people up to 120kg. So now I have myself a mini goal...I want to be down to 115kg by the start of Autum 2010 so that I can start riding again. Thanks for starting this thread!

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
MY twin sister has never been overweight as I have, But does have "The BigBoobs" that run in the family. She goes daily to the gym and rides a pushbike 10-50klms /week depending on time. She is a 14G, and has tried every sports bra around lol Believe Me. She finds she is best wearing her normal bra with a Target sports bra on top for extra support. She finds them the most comfortable and useful as well as the most cost effective. I have just bought myself one, the only thing I found was the colour choice was poor lol, I bought light blue.

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
Whoa it took ages to find this thread!

Although it wasnt on my earlier list, I have always wanted to learn to ride a horse - but I felt so guilty at the idea of the poor horse having to walk around with my weight on its back! Its hard enough for me to walk around!! BUT I spoke to an instructor who said at 84kg I was light enough to ride and not feel guilty :-D So hopefully I will have a great equestrian bum soon ;-)

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
As mentioned above Andy - my number one is Enell - but they are American so not sure if they would give out freebies.

The other one is Berlie Sports and they go up to some pretty decent sizes. And they are Australian too - so that would be my second nomination.

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
Yeah I supose moleskins would be ok.
Butt hey I worked hard to get this Butt and you know what they say.
Wrangler Butts drive em nuts!
Just Kidding.
I ride cutting horses so the wrangler jeans, shirt, spurs and big hat is a must lol.

I am looking for a good sports bra company that might give some freebies for the girls at Band Camp. If anyone can recomend the best one for women that are still over a size 18-20 that want to try exercise that would be great.

Let us know when you are own this way. We should all meet up for a Gunnamata trail ride along the beach.

Thanks Stacey... I will look into it. I have flap jacks for boobs these days - but they still need to be kept neat and tidy.

Good to know!

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
Mels Mania - I have one word for you....Enell....the only only sports bra that will hold them in.

They are exie, but for a horse rider they are worth it to keep those puppies under control.

Failing this - The Berlie Sports Bra is my second choice

Re:Getting Back in the Saddle Reply to this message
For me a good quality sports bra would definately be in order for anything above a fast walk.

I will keep that in mind re the QH... I am not planning anything till later in the year. And what is wrong with R.M. Williams may I ask LMAO???
