HI Erina, Judy, and anyone else interested,

How about Moods in Berwick next Thursday afternoon. I'm pretty flexible with time, how about you guys? Would 1-1.30ish suit.

Judy - I was just thinking the cafe in Narre Nth, while closer, is not a comfortable place for a gathering. I want something with comfortable chairs LOL. Stick with the hot chocolate.

Do we need to book a table? There are a few newbies on some other threads in the area who may want to come along too. The more the merrier.

Cheers
Sue

Welcome knickers0075

Most of us on this thread were done by various surgeons at Lap Surgery Australia, and we are all pretty happy with the sugeons and the before and after care we have received. I was done by Chris Hensman.

All the best, keep us updated on your journey, and feel free to pop in and ask questions.

Cheers
Sue

Hi guys

I might have to give a meet up tomorrow a miss, sorry Shan. I went to the shops today, nothing strenuous, just Medicare and a couple of bits and pieces, but its really knocked me around. Will need a quiet one tomorrow.

Cheer

Hey Guys

Im new here.
I went to a seminar last night at knox for Lap Surgery Australia. The group of Doctors was with Dr Richard Gilholme. Dr Gilholme took out my appendix 16 years ago and he was fantastic, I am happy with him. It pretty much made up my mind that I am getting the surgery done!

Can you guys tell me which doctor did your surgery? And were you happy with them?

Thanks

Thanks for the kind thoughts Tara, but I have my Mum here to drive me around, so no big deal to go further afield (though not too far).

Shan - the coffee shop she is referring to is probably about 15-20 minutes away, in an easterly direction. Is that too far out of your way?

Erina/Tara, I am more than happy to make a date for next week if Friday does not happen.

BTW - if you can stand gross photos - I have put some links to before and after shots on 'Julies arm pics' thread.

Cheers
Sue

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
I would love to catch up but this Friday I dont know whether I will be free late morning. I have an elderly aunt in a hostel and i took her for xrays yesterday, the doc is going in friday to give her the results and I need to be there. i wont know until 8am, friday morning what time the doc will be going, it may even be later in the day. How about I check here to see what arrangements have been made once i know whether I am free. Ordinarily Sue I would offer to drive you as I know you can't drive yet,but wont be able to commit til I know about the doc. A suggestion, there is a new bakery/coffee shop very very very close to sue's home, which wouldnt be far for shan to come to either. I am just thinking sue is not long out of hospital and prob will tire easily. it is the at narre nth

Hi Andy,

Sorry to be so long getting back.

The loss rate is a very indervidual thing, I have heard that the males generally have a quicker start to loss (the loss in the first weeks). But the aim is 1-2Kg/month.

Perrsonally I started at 167kg 12 months prior to banding 158kg at banding in the first 12 months I went to approx 130kg I am still losing went through a period of 12 months or so where nothing much happened I am now 112 and have been banded for 3 1/2 years currently lossing around 1 - 1.5 / month.

Changed employment this year and life style a bit more active which acounts for the renewed rate of loss.

I would recommend you attend one of the info sessions conducted by Lap Surgery at Knox.

The band isn't without disipline, make sure you do your home work and are prepared to make the nessesary changes.

HI all

Erina, I need a catch up too. I was going to say next week, as I'm more likely to be back on deck by then, but I might be able to manage Friday if Shan is available. Otherwise, FG next week? Tara too if you are out there?

Would love to see you guys too, Philipa and Craig. Glad to hear from you, you have been in my thoughts.

Craig,

I have been wondering how you both are, hoping you are well. I don't think we'll ever stop struggling with this weight. I've been ordered back to see Jan - I am sure Chris Hensman wants to certify me!! I know I need it though. Not in a great place at the moment. Love to Phillipa.

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
OK guys.....im sorry to put such a negative spin on this site but i have to admit....IM SO OVER THIS!

I just cant seem to budge anything. I have been hovering at around 112 to 114 for soooo long now. It doesnt matter what i seem to do. Im sticking to around (at worst) 1300 cals per day, im exercising at least 5 days a week (full on running) and still nothing happening I still think that i am able to eat more than i should...i just at my whits end with it and feel really ready to just (i know this sounds weak) blow it all and eat what ever i darn well please! I know that once my body kicks itself into gear i will regret this post but it just doesnt seem to want to get in gear!

Am also being tested for cushings disease. Richard doesnt seem to think that i have it but the Dr at the Royal Womens thinks there might be a possibility.

Am also heading back to Melbs this friday to make sure Richard didnt take more than he should have when he took a little out last time (after i couldnt swallow the water) he also told me that i didnt seem to be losing weight quick enough (which made me feel even worse) so am terrified to be getting on the scales again Friday!!!

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
I'm baaaaaaack

Thanks to everyone for your kind messages. I have just got home today, and I'm doing ok. Have a bit of nausea if I try staying upright for too long, or do to much (having a shower seems to be classed as doing to much). But - no pain! I have not had any pain with this op at all, must be really good drugs!!!

The surgeon tells me he chopped off 3.5kg of skin. The op went for just under 5 hours. I then spent 5 hours in recovery, as part of the wound bled a lot all of a sudden, and we had to wait for him to get out of theatre to check on me. But it was all ok, and I have been relaxing and slowly recovering since. They were going to let me out a day early, yesterday, but then the nausea hit and they decided to keep me in til today. It was better for me to come home to a quiet house today too, the kids would have been all over me yesterday.

Had the staples out this morning, 70 or so across the front. The back is stitches that will come out next week. Still very bruised and swollen, but looks great anyway. I have never had a flat stomach before in my life, and not having it sitting half way down my legs is amazing.

So I am really happy, just need to take it easy for a while yet.

Cheers
Sue

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
OMG Erina you poor thing! Gee, I go away for a couple of days, and there is drama aplenty!

If you weren't so sick I would give you a severe telling off for not calling them over the weekend. But I can understand that too, not wanting to disturb them, and hoping it would all go away.

Did they say why they think it slipped after so long? THat seems to be the trend, most band slips are happening in that 12-18 month period.

Hopefully you will find that with weighing so much less now than the first time round, you will find the recovery quicker and easier. I know you took so long to get that restriction right, it will be frustrating to face it all again, and you will be trying so hard not to put any back on. But please give yourself time to heal properly. Even if you do put some back on, it will be small in relation to what you have lost, and I know - and you know - you can do it.

Maybe we can catch up and recover together over the next couple of weeks.

Look after yourself, I'm thinking of you

Cheers
Sue

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
He was waiting for us and told the nurses he wanted me ready for theatre in 1/2 hour. Which didnt end up happening as I collapsed and needed rehydrating before surgery, my bloods came back very low in potassium I think and my kidneys weren't in great shape. Anyway, all is well now, he was able to put and new band in and I ended up staying in hospital for longer due to being so sick on admission. He said I was severly dehydrated and exhausted.

It was all very gradual but in reality I knew something was wrong for quite some time, but didn't want to face it as I was so scared of losing my fill and struggling with weight gain, now I have to go through all this healing again and back to square one with no restriction. I am not in a great place emotionally and am really angry with myself. I have really fought for every kilo lost and now am just so so scared.

So that's my story.

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Many people have asked me what my symptoms were and I will try to go through it now. I do think that band slip symptoms can be different for everyone, but I also think that if you have a gut feeling that something is not right you should ask for further investigation as I ignored all my symptoms hoping "things would settle".

Prior to having any problems I was able to eat most foods (minus white bread, dry meats - the usual suspects) and was enjoying a wide and varied diet, just much much less. I had had the same level of fill for about 7 months and was cruising along really well. About a month ago I started noticing food that would not normally bother me, was giving me a lot of trouble, more PB's etc. I wasn't too worried as I felt fine and as long as the weight is coming off.... Then I started coughing up phlem during the night, I put this down to a chest infection I thought I had, although I FELT FINE!! Then I started geting reflux from time to time. All this time I was having more and more trouble with "normal foods". By last Thursday I was really only tolerating some fluids, I thought I would give it "time to settle" and by Saturday I knew I was in trouble, not having kept any fluids down for 3 days. But then of course it was the long weekend and I didn't want to bother anyone at the doctors. I went in first thing tuesday morning (5 days, no fluids) and my doc took out all my fill and I sat in the waiting room and drank 4 cups of water. I left, feeling ok and went and got a gatorade. About 10 minutes after leaving the doctors I felt terrible and drove straight to hubby's work which was nearby. I could not stop vomiting. We rang doc and he told us to go home, pack a bag and go straight to the hospital.
