Hi Louise

I'm still 'leaking'. Seeing the doc tomorrow.

I won't be able to make any weekday meetups, as will be back at work by then unfortunately.

Cheers

Hi Tarn

If you were banded by Lapsurgery Australia they have monthly support group meetings. Are they the ones you were referring to?

There is one at the Valley hospital from 7.00 - 8.00pm tomorrow night, 30th June. They are held there last Tuesday of the month.

There are also meetings at Knox hospital. I'm not sure of the dates, but I'm sure someone will come along and fill you in.

Cheers
Sue

Hi Tarn, there is a monthly meetup in werribee on 12th july, its a long way to go but very well worth the trip. I am of having a day here in berwick in late july, early august, it will be a thursday, where you can bring your own lunch and clothes for a clothes swap, just waiting to see what sort of a response i get from everyone. we also meet for coffee at moods in berwick every now and then, so just keep checking the threads. I am three months banded and loving it, louise

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Hey Andy
I support Garys closing statement of "The band isn't without discipline, make sure you are prepared to make the necessary changes", think of the band as a tool. I have had my band in for 2 1/2 years, when I had the band in i weighed 188 kg, weight dropped off really quick for the first 18 months my weight went to 120 kilos nearly at my goal weight.
Then I git stressed went back to the old habbits and hav gained 30 kilos since Christmas and ballooning fast. to the point I have been ordered back to the psychologist to work out how I am going to get back on track.
The band is purely a tool for the weight loss and helps with the hunger pains whilst we diet.
Hope that Is helpful.
my email is craigmal@gmail.com if you need any other advice or support.

Craig
P.S A big hello to you all things have been trying and are continuing hello Gary hope Wendy is doing ok with the band.
I think we all need a catch up soon so you can see the fat me

HI there everyone

Sue, its always the way when you go to Drs isnt it!!! I really hope that you feel better soon and get whatever may be causing your problem sorted.

Hope you all had a fantastic catch up today, sorry i missed it. Erina would loved to have seen the new you.

Update from me.....have lost 3kgs since friday! Eating has DRAMATICALLY reduced, i even take 1 hour to eat a can of tuna. Having a rough trot with knowing what i can and cant eat (which is most things at the moment) Managed lunch today - 2 cruskits, cottage cheese and ham.....yummo! Dinner was a no go last night. It honestly easier to eat standing up at the moment but i am going to persevere with it because i am FINALLY seing some results (touch wood)

YAY

Can anyone guide me with what you guys ate when running a tight band? ta

Oh Sue you poor girl. That sounds just awful what you are going through. Don't push yourself tomorrow, as much as we are all looking forward to catching up, your health has to be a priority. If you can't make it we'll make another date for next week. I am sure there will be others keen to catch up again. Jeri is keen if we get together in the school hols.
Everyone else looking forward to seeing you at moods 1pm. I may have 4 year old grandaughter in tow her mum and dad are both sick with the dreaded lurgy.

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Looking forward to our meet up tomorrow.

Warning - I have just come on here to vent, so if you can't be bothered with a whinge, skip the next paragraph.

I have had a cr*ppy day. You know how you get crook, and when you go to the docs the symptoms disappear as soon as you enter his waiting room, then reappear later when you have gone home....I had a fever over the weekend and Monday, and one point on my wound won't stop bleeding. Got some antibiotics from the GP on Monday, so when I went to the surgeon yesterday no fever, and the bleeding had pretty much stopped. He removed some sutures, said that was causing the bleeding, checked it over and said it was fine, and had stopped. And it did until about 10pm, and since then I have flooded everything with blood. I am sick of having wet clothes, sheets, sleeping on wet towels etc from the blood. I am sick of having to wear an incontinence pad strapped to my side as its the only thing that will keep it under some sort of control. And the fever was back this morning, at least only for a little while. And he chose today to reduce my pain meds. Thankfully I'm not in pain, just feel cr*ppy.

There, had my vent. Sorry. Going back in there tomorrow morning to hopefully get it sorted. Then, even if I have a mattress strapped to my side, I will be at Moods. Least I would be easy to spot!

Cheers
Sue

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Shan, in answer to your question, I don't think my mental state has caught up yet. I am still very swollen, so I put on my size 12 jeans that were a bit big before the op, and they still seem the same BUT they do go straight up now, there is no nasty bulge, which is really great.

But I still cannot stand up straight, and overall feeling a bit too cr*ppy, with the infection and drugs and all, so I think the 'feeling amazing' part is still to come. But I can see enough of the result to know that it WILL come. Hope that makes sense

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Wendy, shame they can't put their finger on what is wrong with your shoulder. I always get shoulder pain if I eat too much, sort of an early warning system. I have heard of quite a few bandsters with shoulder pain, to differing degrees, there must be some nerve connection. But if the massage is working, you may as well continue with it. Hope you, Garry and Heather have a lovely time on your cruise.

Shan, just keep taking it slowly, it may take you a while to work out what you can and cannot manage now the restriction has gone up a couple of notches. Sometimes I find that eating a little bit, then leaving the meal for 5-10 min, then going back to it makes it a bit easier to manage. If you like cold food that is LOL. Although sometimes I would come back and find my son had pinched half my dinner.

Judy, Mum is still here (thankfully), so she will come along on Thursday, so I'm right for a lift. Saw the GP today and got some antibiotics. Back to the surgeon tomorrow. I just hope he can stop the bleeding. Its getting worse. I'm going through my supply of bandages, and I'm sure Mum is getting sick of having to wash blood out of all my clothes! I have a big rest day planned for Wednesday in preparation for Thursday, determined to get there.

Cheers

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Shan you sound just like I am at the moment. there is really very little that I can eat comfortably, and everything has to be eaten very very slowly. So I would say yes its normal at least normal for you and me.

Poor girl Sue, hope you are feeling much better tonight with the meds kicking in. Erina trust all going well for you now.

Wendy Garry and Heather, have a fantastic time.
Looking forward to the catch up on THursday at moods for those that are able to get there. fingers crossed for you Sue, is mum still around? if not email or sms me and I'll pick you up etc. sure hope you are well enough to make it.

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
HI Sue,

yeah fingers crossed that i get somewhere this time. Im not sure though, how tight is too tight?....lol!!! I cooked a roast vegie salad for dinner tonight and have had trouble with every bite, seems to take me a REALLY long time to eat only half to a quarter of a meal. Dont get me wrong, im soooooooooooo not complaining but im just wondering if thats normal for restriction, the food seems to sit in the top part for a little while before it goes down and the burping is quite horendous at the moment...lol! I might settle in though, might still be some swelling there hey?

Im just thinking out loud here guys, please dont think im whinging because im loving it right now...scales have moved since friday and I LOVE IT, ITS MAKING ME FEEL INCREDIBLE AGAIN!

Sue, hope you get the infection under control and that everything is ok with that. I will check out the pictures, cant wait to see the difference! How has it affected you mentally? Do you feel amazing?

Garry, thanks mate, really appreciate your kind words, fingers, toes, everything crossed! I hope you find out about your shoulder, that sounds incredibly annoying!

Hi all

I have been following everyones progress and Erina and Sue hope you will both be better soon.

Shan, fingers crossed that this is finally working for you.

Well I have been back to Richard again today, CT scan was all ok. He cannot explain why I am in pain with the shoulder for a lot of the time.

I have tried chinese massage which has helped and I think I will continue on that line for now.

Garry, Heather and I are off on our cruise in two weeks. Garry and I have an appointment with Richard for the day after we get back lets see what the scales say then.

Keep well everyone.

Hi Shan

Well, the restriction seems to be working for you this time. Fingers crossed.

With the pics, make sure you use the links from the 2nd post on Julies thread, the first one was the wrong links. And take the space out between the shoeberry and the 67.

Actually, I will cut and paste them here, hopefully that will make it easier than you having to go searching for them again:

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt349/shoeberry 67/SV40043ab.jpg

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt349/shoeberry 67/sv400710cropped-1.jpg

If they don't work this time, and you really want to see them, I can email them to you. They should help with your weight loss, as they will put you off your food LOL.

I'm feeling pretty cr*ppy today. I was on some antibiotics as a preventative, but they finished on Friday, and now it appears I may have an infection, as my temp is hovering around 38.5, and I'm getting chills and hot flushes. I also have part of the wound that started bleeding on Friday, and its getting worse, last night it soaked through a combination dressing, pressure girdle thingy I have to wear, nightshirt and sheets.

I have an appt with my surgeon tomorrow, but seeing a local GP today for antibiotics to get on top of it asap.

Hope everyone else is well.

cheers
Sue

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Hi Erina,

Try not to stress about the 2kgs, easier said than done i know but you know that this is time to heal...not loose!

I most certainly will ask for a fill check next time im there, never thought about a leak....would make sense as the restriction always seems to wear off, i just thought that was normal.

Cheryl told me that it was quite common for people to have less than they went there with if the surgeon needs to take a little out, and Richard was quite confused there for a minute when he was putting in and taking out...who knows!

Since Friday my scales have shown me to loose 3 kgs.....odd i know but im going to run with it and if its true that means only 0.9kgs until first mini goal....fingers x'ed. Am only able to eat very small amounts of food, and at this point in time im a little afraid to try normal solids, might wait a few more days. Not hungry at all but want to make sure i get the nutrients and soforth that i need

Hope everyone is great, glad to hear your still going strong Sue, havent been able to view your pictures for some reason.

Cheers
Shan

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
And the band was supposed to be the end of WW and the like....... Still, not a bad way to try and keep on track until you get your restriction back. I reckon I still count points in my sleep I did it for so long. I know pretty reliably that I live on 14-18 pts a day these days.

Did they put in the same size band? Hopefully as they know at what level of fill you had restriction before they may move through that early stage of fill a bit quicker, like 4 or 5 ml instead of 2 at the first fill? Or is that being a bit hopeful?

It will be great to see you on Thursday, its been so long. I am finding that every little outing is knocking me around, so I will rest up on Wednesday to be ready :)

Cheers
Sue

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
I marched my big butt down to weight watchers this morning!! I cant just sit here and do nothing but eat for the next 3 weeks until I get my first fill, and knowing me it could be Christmas before I get decent restriction. I have gained 2 kg since surgery and am still on fluids!!! Ive sucked tim tams to smithereens and made so many milkshakes I should buy a cow.... grrrr.....

so now Im counting points and weighing and measuring everything... at least for the next few months.....

Looking forward to my skinny cap at moods on thursday....

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Shan, Hope this one does the trick for you. Though may I suggest you ask for a fill check next time your in at Lapsurgery. It stuck me as weird that your fill was less than what they had recorded, they are usually pretty accurate with their records and I worry you may be leaking fill (whick might explain why you have restriction and then it wears off?) I certainly dont want to feak you out, but it's cant hurt to check.

Hope you're having a great weekend and you are happy happy happy (as shrek would say) with restiction!!

Hi Shan

Sounds like it was the best thing he could have asked, not the worst. You needed to get that off you chest, and they needed to hear exactly how you were going, which you obviously told him. Good for you. There was no point going in and glossing over the facts.

You will need to go carefully over the next few days once you get back to solid food.

Take care, and keep us posted. Sorry we were not able to meet up today.

Cheers

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
HI guys

just home from Melbs. Saw Renato (?) tody, he is lovely! was really impressed with him actually.

He asked how i was going with it all and it was probably the worst thing he could have asked because i told him i was over it and got a little upset! I told him what was going on and how id barely lost weight since banding and i was really losing faith in the band but more importantly myself. He popped me on the scales and i weighed exactly the same as 3 weeks ago...i said to him.....told you so! I also told him that i thought Richard took out too much last time i was there because i had less restriction when i left last time than when i arrived. Turns out he had taken out half a ml more than he thought hehad so instead of 6.3ml i had 5.8. Renato filled me up to 7ml but i couldnt get the water down so he took out 0.3 and whilst the water was a little tight going down it was fine. He told me to stay for a little while and if it got worse tohave a little more taken out.....so far so good! God i hope that this starts to work now, even just a little bit. It was a little promising when i got full after a small milk!!!!

So...no weight loss to report....but no gain either!

Shan
