Hi all
Just a quick one to say Hi. Michelle I sent you an email, hope you are feeling better. Shelly hope all is well with your results, if they didn't call you straight back in then hopefully nothing too much to worry about. Hi Terri, hope your daughter in law can get the help she needs, I have heard of that before (a colleague of mine), not sure how she resolved it but she did.
Take care everyone.

goingtoqld,
Hi Shelly,
I posted on the general thread to see if anyone has had the camera thing down their throat for a look around since they were banded. A lady told me to come over to this thread as someone was having it done... and well... here I am!!
What I would like to know is.... do you need to have fill removed? Were they aware of your band before you went in or did you just tell them when you were on the table.
Thanks for that and i hope that you got on well yesterday. B u g g e r of a way to get an hours sleep having that done!!
Thanks in advance,
Madonna |

Michelle,
You poor baby, my heart goes out to you, you have been
through so much already. Unfortunatley I can't help with
the name of a good counsellor, but will ask around.
My step daughter is having a terrible time at the moment,
convinced she's going to die......had every single test
possible and nothing wrong with her. The hard part is
that it is so REAL to her, and people that haven't had anything to do with mental illness, depression, anxiety etc. just don't understand. She went to see a councellor
Yesterday, so will keep you in mind if he is able to help
her. Glad you have your little doggie to bring some joy
into your life....take care sweetie, and jump on here anytime you want to vent, I know it is supposed to be all
about lapbanding, but we have all become so close on this
thread, that we are all concerned about our overall well
being. There are plenty of other threads dedicated to
just lapbanding. I'm sure everyone of us that readf your
post is sending our love and strength to get you through!

Hi everyone,
I'm sorry that i have not been on for a while but i am having a Fibromyalgia flair up which basically means that i am exhausted and in a lot of pain all over my body. I have had a head ache for 7 days now and i have been miserable to live with.
BUT....Something good has come out of it! I now have a new edition to my family. His name is Jaxon and he is a 6 week old pure bred staffordshire bull terrier. He has put a huge smile on my face and has given me something other than my illness to think about.
So, even tho i feel rotten, there is some positive happening right now. Also, my kids are beautiful and hubby is sticking in there (just...). Does anyone know of a good (no...GREAT) counsellor? I don't need a weight loss related one, just a general one. I am going thru something i cannot explain and i need some help before i lose everything that matters to me.
If you can help me out but do not want to open up here please email me on my yahoo account (doit4mykidz@yahoo.com.au )
Thanks for listening :)
I'm going to get back to my baby boy now!

HI Sheely,
You should be getting close to being home by now - not a dreadful procedure to have at least. Hope all the findings are good and you don't have extra pocket like me.
Thinking of you

They sure do Nic.
Lap Surgery Australia operate at Knox and the Valley hospitals, and have information sessions at each. Give them a call on 9210 7277 for dates and to book in. You can also check out their website

Hi Nic
Definately, call them on 9210 7277. They have a really comprehensive program for people being banded including dietician sessions and a chat with a psychologist, once a month support group and easy to talk to people you can ring anytime. I have been very happy with them.

Hi all
Hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was the usual whirlwind of sport and kids parties but it was fun, today is my clean up day, washing and changing beds etc, how excitement!
A little restriction after last fill, I can still eat anything but if I eat too fast it lets me know, if I wait a minute or two though I can keep going! The next one should be good as I never have the band too tight but I do need a bit more restriction than I have now. I have booked in my next one after our trip on the Tram Restaurant, don't want to miss out on the FIVE courses! I am sure I won't eat it all but determined to have some of everything.
Have a good day

Hi Julia
A thread is a list of discussions or replies on a particular topic. If you go to the 'home page' of this message board at http://au.messages.yahoo.com/lifestyle/lap-band/ (remove any spaces) you will see a heap of 'threads'. There are pages of them, just check the headings to find what you are looking for, and then click on the heading to read what is in that thread.
There is a thread on exchanging one addiction for another. If I can find it I will bump it up to the front page for you. It is a good idea to save the threads you are intereted in in your 'favorites', so you can go to it easily instead of having to hunt for it each time.
Hope that helps
cheers

Thank you Erina for responding to my posting. Glad to hear all is going well for you. Sounds like the band is jsut what I need, a physical way to limit the amount of damage I can do to myself with food!
Have you ever heard of anyone exchanging their food addiction for another form of addiction once the band is in place and physically limits the amount a person can eat?
Also, I am new to chat rooms, what is a "thread" and are there different threads and if so, how do I find out what they are please?
Thanks again
cheers

anyway I hope you find your appointment with your surgeon encouraging and exciting, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know it can all seem so overwhelming when you have so much weight to lose, but banding offers real hope of achieving slow and healthy weight loss and most importantly - LASTING WEIGHT LOSS.
Good luck,
Erina |

Hi Julia,
Welcome to this thread, you should find heaps of support and answers you are looking for on here.
I also have 2 children and started out about 80kg overweight, I can relate to your struggle. I am glad you have the support of your husband, having the banding done is a big decision. My husband has been just fantastic and I don't know whether I could have done it without him.
I have been banded 7 months now and the kids (they are 5 and 2) went off to Grandma's for a week and after that I managed with them just fine. I think I was more tired for the anesthetic than sore. I drove after the first week, as I had nothing to do but laze around a watch dvds or the first week. My scars are also fading. I rub bio-oil into them every now and then when I remember!
As for the compulsive eating, I am a shocking binge water and pre banding would think nothing eating $20 worth of KFC or Hungry Jacks all by myself... I was out of control in a never ending cycle of diet and binging. I still have my struggles, but now I have the band restriction I can not physically have those big meals. I have tested the limits of my band many times and now I pay the price! Sometimes I wish I could eat what I want to have (unfortunately there is no band for your head) but now that the weight is coming off, I feel more relived and in control with my eating. I also feel more at peace within myself, the worry of weight gain and disappointment has lessened dramaticlly.
If I had my time over the one thing I would change is that I would be very selective about who I told about the op. I lost a lot of weight initially (which no one noticed because I was huge) but then it took some time to get restriction in the band and my weight plateaued for about 4 months. I found that people expected instant success and even now I am always asked how much weight I have lost and how it is all going, which is ok if your are losing weight, discouraging if your aren't.
to be continued..... |

Welcome Julia,
Just to quickly answer your questions as it is way past my bedtime!!just doing a quick scan of the forum before heading to bed but want to send you a quick welcome.
Time off work depending on the type of work you do some go back to office type work after a week, I took 2 weeks am also in a physically demanding role, needed the 2 weeks and was careful about lifting for another couple of weeks. I drove about 5 days post op just down to the local supermarket but I do know someone who drove herself home from hospital - silly thing to do and the surgeons didnt know. I am a compulsive chocolate eater and still struggle with it. There is no physical limitation to eating chocolate unfortunately, Not many scars, I have 4 very small, biggest about an 2 cm long, i heap very well but i have seen some rather nasty scaring on others, even banded by the same surgeon so i guess it just depends on our body's healing. The scars arent big just often raised and dark. Just had a look for my scars 2 years banded and cant find them amongst the stretch marks of childbirth and excess weight so i wouldnt worry too much about the scars. Good luck with your journey and stay on these boards there is nothing better than getting the info from the "horses mouth" as the saying goes. What a crazy expression that is - being overweight we all probably ate like horses!!! |

Hello everyone, my name is Julia and I am new to this message board. I am a 37 yr old Brisbane mother of 2 and am 70kg overweight. I have been overweight all my life, seeing my first dietitian at the age of 5.
Since the weight has just about ruined my life and my families lives and I have tried every weight loss method going with now permanent success.... I have decided (with my husbands encouragement) to have Lap Banding done. I go and see the surgeon for my first appointment in 2 weeks.
Until then, I have a few questions that you all may be able to help me with if you could please?
1. How long will I need off work (all going well, physical job on my feet and lifting involved).
2. How long until I can drive again
3. Are any of you compulsive overeaters? If so, what have you done once the band is in and physically limits what you can eat and you have the urge for a binge?
4. Are there many scars? How big.
Thanks for your help!
cheers

afternoon all.
Craig and i went to see Maried Life last night - great film little press- with Pierce Brosnan - yum!
Tonight we think we might go again and see The Savages - yes we love going to the movies.
Sue,
I don't think it means the puppies have grown, just a 16DD cup is actually much smaller than a 24DD - the cups are not the same with each size just relative to the bra size eg 16 - A being the smallest size in each bra - mind you I have never seen a 24A? Have you?
anyway the man us now home...very tired may not go the movies after all
Cheers Phillipa |
