Hi Helen, Terri, Shelly, Prue and Mandy
Oh thank you all heaps for all your info and advice etc it's been great hearing from you all and welcoming me to this site. Hope I didn't leave anyone out. Haven't been able to use computer for last few days so missed this site so now catching up. Tomorrow I go for my consultation and get a booking date for op. Sooooo excited - can't wait to get started on this new journey (although not looking forward to that Optifast geez!). Did you all have to go onto Optifast pre-Op? I have heard some people don't have to go on it prior to surgery.
Does anyone use the recipe site - just popped in there and there's some yummy recipes - but I guess it's up to each individual what they can or can't get down eh? I had the impression before researching lap band surgery that you would live on mush forever but it seems there is life again being able to eat a lot of foods just in tiny portions.

Can you tell me if you go out for dinner or catch up with friends etc are you able to have a glass of wine? Does liquid go straight through or do you have to sip really slowly? I drink heaps of water daily - can you drink lots of water or are you restricted with that also?
I'm soooooo tired at the moment so can't wait till I've dropped some of this weight off and get renewed energy again! Well off to bed now - get up at 4.45am each morning to go to work in the city (WPO in city law firm).
Cheers everyone and look forward to catching up in a day or two.
Sharon

Mandy. One question. Can I carry your bags??? Sounds fantastic even for onlt a couple of weeks.

Helen glad you are getting some use from the clothes; I have just been throwing mine in the brotherhood bin as I didn’t know anyone they would fit.

Good to see you are taking some time Prue and what we often don’t realize is that by taking time for ourselves we actually become more productive in our working hours, we all naturally tend to pace our work day some time against our best efforts not to. Aside from that it is good to have time to relax.

Went to Bairnsdale yesterday and had lunch in Yarragon on the way back the Chicken and Veggie soup was good and a piece of focasha (need a spelling lesson) to top it off. One of the real positives of the band having to take the time to stop and eat, and may as well smell the roses at the same time.

Have a great day all and remember 2 for sleeps and it’s the weekend, yes.

Wow, how come its got so late?!

We have had a good dose of serious talk and reflection today, but no harm in that ~ c’mon Terri, you can be d & m too!! Mandy, I like the sound of your ‘me’ time, good on you!!

Food is good isn’t it, after liquids! I had fish again with broccoli and mash ~ soooooooooo good!!

Garry, Wendy is obviously a real gem, we can just scroll down if we get fed up with you!! I’m really loving the clothes, by the way, and seem to wear atleast one of them each day!!

Well, time for bed ~ Where IS Shelly?? Does anyone know? Its almost 3 days since her last post ~ most unlike her. Hope you’re okay and the dishwasher is still working well!!

Night all ~

Evening everyone

Some of us have been a bit serious today but as Helen said it is important for our future success, I am going to take it to extremes later in the year when myself and my little girl are going off to visit my Mum and Dad in Cyprus probably at the end of August. At first I was only going to go for a couple of weeks but now thinking of going for about a month leaving my hubby and two sons (14 and 16) to cope. How is that for 'me time' lol!!

I am preparing them already with the boys having to cook once a week each so they don't need to live off of take-aways, I am sure they are also legends in their own minds Garry!

Another day eating 'real' food, it's great! Fish again with grated zucchini and parsley sauce. Sorry I keep talking about my dinner but it's so exciting.

Take care everyone
Love Mandy

Just looked in to see what’s happening read my last mail (twice, what a goose) I must have taken a dose of serious pills, must go chuck em out. Not much fun at all sorry to bore you all if you had have wanted that you could have spoken to your own hubbies (wash my mouth out).

Just going to make Wendy a tea, what a great bloke I am a legend in my own mind.

Have a good night

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Hi Helen,

Wendy is fine with it and I always check with her before I put my hand up but I guess we have been married for 24 ½ years and I have played in the brigade for 24 of those, when we were married I was living in Richmond and had done for a few years but I have been in the brigade since I was 16 except for those few years.

I am the 1st Lt at Montrose and as you would be aware most of the problems are people problems. Lately every time we get someone with promise they up and leave for all sorts of good reasons but it plays havoc with your succession planning.

Anyway we will get there

Morning All

As you say, Prue, it is a morning for the deep and meaningfuls!! But I think it’s very important, now that we have all made this decision, to look at where we stand on the priority ladder. Why have we got to where we are today and how are we going to get back to where we want to be. In order to succeed, I believe that we have to value ourselves, our lives and our health.

You’ll be glad to hear, Mandy, that the computer seems to have taken a turn for the better ~ don’t know what son did to it but it is behaving a little better; I am still typing in Word then cutting and copying though. Just as well really as I don’t think they stretch to Internet cafes or Maccas, come to that, in this neck of the woods!!

Gary ~ another 2 years ~ that’s a long time to keep up the commitment to the CFA and a long time to wait to get your own time. Is Wendy happy about it? Have you told her yet?

Catch you all later ~ have a great day and remember to get you ‘me’ time!!

Helen X

PS Shelly ~ are you there??!!

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Good Morning All,

I too am guilty of doing everything for everyone else ans having no me time. In the last few days, after weeks of STRESS, I can to the decision that I too had to learn to say NO....and I have done it!

I was working such long hours, having no time for my kids, house or even feeding my family properly that everything turned to kaos! Now, I am going home early, telling my friends to give me some space (long story) and making Steve leave the factory everynight and eat at home (havent done this for 2 months!) Just these small changes in the last few days (and some Zoloft!) and I feel so much more relaxed....I even took time out to go and have some acyrlic nails put on...just for me!!
I realise that if mum is not happy and relaxed ...no one in the family can be!! lol
There you go...another deep and meaniful this morning!!! lolol

WHO'S NEXT??????

have a great one everyone,
xx

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Morning all

I am like you too Garry, busy all the time doing things for someone else, I wonder why we do it, we must think that it's more important for everyone else to be happy than for us to be happy, part of our recovery is to believe that we are worth investing in. I think it is a slow process but the first step is being aware. I have said no on a few occasions recently and I quite liked it. I am a foster parent who takes any child offered even if it is really hard for me to do so, twice I have declined in the last couple of months - not like me at all, although have just said yes to an eight month old but the babies are sooo cute!!! My husband and I run a local soccer club and our kids do lots of sport - reads no time for ourselves or each other, plenty of time for the wider community! Balance is the name of the game and I look forward to achieving some.

On a lighter note I was so excited to have fresh salmon fillet and sweet potato last night, felt human again. Had half a small sweet potato and half a salmon fillet, took 30 mins to eat and I was full, all working out like they said it would!

Helen, hope the internet is working today or you might be hanging around car parks or internet cafes too.

Have a great day everyone.
Love Mandy

Re:Knox Hospital bandits - Melbourne Reply to this message
Hi Helen

I cant complain to much I guess I sprook a deal of the stuff that flows these days. I look forward to next weeks meeting more than last nights, last night I just didn’t want to be there.

Don’t tell Wendy but I was really looking forward to taking a back step in the brigade and convert it in to me time (or at least Wendy and me time), as I have come to think after discussions with Liz and in the group that I have been to busy to do the right thing for me.

I have just committed to another two years after which I have also promised myself I will drop back to a role where I just do some work as a driving instructor, workplace assessor, and pad instructor. This week is good only Tuesday (meeting night), Friday (Pad instructor), and Sunday morning more frequently I have 3-4 nights a week and most Sunday mornings committed to something fire brigade (That is something other than fires).

Don’t get me wrong I don’t blame anyone for my situation but me but I do think lack of me time is part of my problem and that is no ones fault but mine and only in my power to change.

Very heavy for this time of morning, have a good day all.

Evening All

We’ve been completely without internet and I thought I was facing talking to no-one for 6 days, until next Mondays meeting! But it has sprung into life ~ who knows for how long though!!

Mandy, interesting about you not sleeping either ~ you could be onto something with the lack of proper food ~ I will wait and see if it improves with the next phase of eating. What is it about 3am?! I, too, had fish tonight, with a zucchini fritter ~ very yum!!

Thanks, Prue, for the info about what’s on at the various meeting; I will get those into my diary ~ I think they all sound worthwhile.

The meeting is at 7.30pm on Monday, Mandy.

Glad to know, Garry, that out CFA doesn’t have the exclusive rights on BS ~ I sometimes wonder!!

Time for bed now, so sleep well all and catch you tomorrow, computer willing!!

Night night!!

Hi All

Nothing much being said tonight.

I haven’t anything worthwhile to say either, just been to a fire brigade meeting the nap did me good, not really I thought I had my fill of B.S. before I went but had a top up and am now overflowing.

hi there

You are all a bit quiet, so I thought that I would say hi and give you the latest count down 7 weeks, six days to go. I am with you, Helen and Prue, I am unable to sleep, so hopefully that relaxation session on monday will help.

Mandy, hope everything is going well.

Terri, are you feeling restriction now?

Hi Everyone,

Wel lthe fill went really well. Chris Hensaman is sooo gentle and I didnt feel a thing. He has put back in 2ml and boy!, i could feel the difference straight away!

I have managed to eat a small pasta for lunch and feel terrific. I bought some healthy choice twin pack meals, they are fantatstic- just the right size for a bandit and heats in the microwave in 3 minutes!

I lost 300grams since having no fill- so I thought that was pretty good.

Cheryl spoke to me about whats on in the monthly meetings coming up. Next Monday Jane- the new councellor is going to teach us some relaxation techniques( exactly what i need!, that is if we can all stop laughing!)
In June Richard Gilhome is coming in and in Octover ...the one I am insterested in - Plastic Surgery- tummy tucks etc.
All sounds good.

Helen

Didn't have much chance to talk last night, I also went through a while where I couldn't sleep, wide awake at 3am. I think it might be because we are not really eating enough yet? Could be metabolism? Guessing really but I am sleeping much better now.

Cheers

Hi everyone

How did the fill go Prue?

Glad to see your back here Garry, dial-up is very frustrating after broadband isn't it?

Helen, what's for dinner? It's so exciting isn't it? I have bought a nice fresh piece of salmon for my dinner, I think I will have some mashed sweet potato with it (not forgetting the light sour cream!).

What time is the meeting at Knox on Monday evening anyone?

Better do some housework and put the washing out while it's sunny.

Take care
Love Mandy
