Hi Shan
At my heaviest my BMI was 46. It was at 44 when banded.
I dreamed of being merely overweight. I never imagined I could actually get into the healthy weight range. Before banding I read Prof O'Briens book, the Lapband Solution. In that he said that if you have been morbidly obese, and are over 40 years old, your chances of getting into the healthy weight range were pretty much non-existent. At the time I believed him, now I am happy to have proven him wrong.
How's the restriction going?
Cheers

Hi all
Garry & I went to Flemington Races yesterday as guests of the VRC for the CFA volunteers. Had a great day shook hands with Leo Sayer. Texted our daughter to tell her this and she texted back Who is he. Sent text to friend in Qld and she was so jealous he was her favorite singer back in our teenage days, long ago.
Anyway today I am a bit sore and tired maybe overdid yesterday but it was worth it.
Garry has interview with Dept. of Corrections on Thursday as a field Officer. He is hopeful of getting the job as he thinks it will be a good change and you never know what it might lead to.
Hope everyone is good.

Well, we are a quiet little thread these days!
Did my first talk at a Lapsurgery information night last night. Only a small crowd, about 12 people, so not too scary. Didn't think I was nervous, until I looked down at my piece of paper at one point and realised it was shaking LOL. Don't do another one until about October.
Well, off to do some washing. Daughter has just got home from a week in Canberra on school camp.
Enjoy your long weekend everyone.
cheers

Tracie,
Well done on maintaing the weight, I stayed the same for about 3 months at the beginning, and everyone said it was good that that cycle of constantly gaining and losing was ending. It will gradually start to come off as you get more fill and eat less. Hang in there.

| Well done Shan - it sounds as if you are getting there, remember that even when you have restriction you have days where you can eat more and are hungrier, and other days you are tighter and don't need much food at all. |

Man I can't wait to get some sort of restriction. I feel like I'm picking all day. I'm not losing any weight but thankfully I'm not gaining any either!
I have my 2nd fill on March 16, so I have another 2 weeks to wait. I have 3ml in a 14ml band, fingers crossed that I'll feel something with the next fill, although I'm not confident of that, I've heard that my surgeon is very conservative with fills.
Congrats to you Shan!

OH MY GOD EVERYONE............i think i have some restriction.....
WHats happening::well i had some for a few days after my last fill and then it seemed to go away but the last two days i havent been hungry...AT ALL, i cant eat chicken anymore, it keeps getting stuck, hasnt come back up yet but it darn hurts when it does that spasmy thing in your throat/chest. Is that what it is.....is it normal to get it after being swollen, normal and then get restriction???
Im wapped, im soooooo hoping this is starting to go the way i wanted it to.
Can someone tell me if thats whats happening....im so excited...im typing 100 miles an hour and cant be bothered checking for spelling mistakes so sorry if its poorly written!!!
Hope everyone is well

Hi all
Went to my cousins wedding yesterday, dress was 'formal'.
So my first chance to get really dressed up since losing weight. Lovely satin gown in a size 12, hairdresser managed to straighten my hair and got rid of the frizz. Wow, I looked stunning! (even if do say so myself LOL!!!)
I love my band.
Even managed to talk the waitress into a bowl of soup for main course, which made the whole 3 course meal thing a lot easier :)
Off to the Berwick show now, then packing for daughter who is off to Canberra for a week for school camp.
Have a great day all
Cheers

Thanks Sue, i was petrified that i would wake up one morning and it would all be gone, thank god its 'normal'!!!
I can still eat a band size plate with not too much trouble so i would guess that its a tiny bit restricted and i ate something today that kinda got stuck and it felt like my oesophagus was spasming or something, didnt come back up but was very uncomfortable, i think i was rushing it too much.
Thanks for your advice, i really really appreciate it.
Hope your having a ripper of a day

Hi Shan
If you had restriction for a couple of days, then it went away, that means two things. That you are normal, and that you are getting closer to the sweet spot. For some, restriction is a bit more immediately after a fill cause the insides are a bit swollen/aggravated, then it settles down. But it also means you are getting closer to proper restriction.
And from what I read here, restriction can feel different for different individuals. For me, I still get hungry - at least 6 times a day. I am hungry when I wake up, and at regular intervals through the day. So I eat if I am hungry. But I can only eat a small amount - and I have to stop or I get very uncomfortable, and occasionally PB. It would be rare I could manage a full 'banding plate' size meal. But a meal and a snack would add up to a standard 'bandit' meal, so I figure I am having 3 meals a day, just spread out a bit. Yet others are very different, so do not just judge yourself on my experience of restriction. Remember I took 9 months to get to this level of restriction, and Erina even longer.
I also had hair loss. Its a worry, but not permanent. Very common. Some say its due to the anesthetic/surgery, others say its a deficiency from eating less. Some recommend special shampoos (Nixion?) but this is very expensive, and I have heard mixed results. I was recommended to take some zinc tablets to help. It did ease off, not sure if it was the zinc or just natural. But it does stop after a while, and you won't go bald in the meantime - even though it may seem like it when you see it all in the shower.
Like the restriction - give it time.
Cheers

Hi Erina,
Thanks for the kind hugs. I saw Richard last week and I have to come back in 3 months. The only option they would maybe, possbily, if they were feeling insane and wanted to fly in the face of danger, do to me is a full gastic bypass, which is pretty radical and has a much higher problem rate than banding....so I am not sure if Richard or I actually want to go there as it could kill me this time...
So the deprssion and stress kick in, as I have to look at the things which failed me all my life - diet and exercise...
All too hard at this point to think about, so that is why I have to go back in 3 months and then again in 6 months. .
Cheers Phillipa |

| Oh - and like you I was about 1/2 full (about 7ml in a 14ml band) before I started feeling fullness, I now have 9.5mls in and Im perfect - not letting anyone touch me now!!!!! I would guess the next fill or two will definately make a big difference to you. |
