| I don't know he's name but he was just in the room. Jo was the one that actually did the fill. I think it was a once off as Dr D had to leave early to go to surgery and they knew I had driven 2 hours just for the appointment. The other doc had to be there as Jo is not covered by their insurance. I think that's why she itsn't allowed to do them. It would be soooo much easiler if she just did them. She is really lovely. |

Dana try to get in earlier than 4 weeks and make another appointment now for 2 weeks after the next fill. You can always cancel them if not needed. I always have an appointment booked now (which I usually reschedule) because you have to wait so long to see him. Which doctor did the fill for you. I didn't know anyone else could do them. That is handy info.

Hi Linda, thanks for replying. I had 3 fills. 1ml, then 1.5ml and yesterday 1ml. (Dr D wouldn't put in 1.5). You're right Linda he is very conservative with his fills. The 1.5ml I got was only cause he wasn't there and the other surgeon did it. My next appointment is in a month. Like you said I'll just keep going back and getting fills. hopefully I will start to lose weight soon.
Thanks again

Hi Dana, it seems to start like that. You just need more fill. How many fills have you had. I have 3 - 3.3 mls in a band that holds 4 mls. Just keep going back for more fills until you can't eat much. I wish I had the restriction I have now in the first 6 months of banding. I'm off to Melb for the day but will check in later.

Hi guys, well i'm 6 weeks post op and apart from losing 6kg's in the first week I haven't lost anything at all. infact at Dr Deutcher's office yesterday I'd put on 1.7kg's. I've got 3.5ml in my 10ml band and I can still eat rather easily. Dr D was not impressed. Granted i haven't followed the rules exactly but i'm eating half as much as I was pre-band, so I don't understand why i'm putting on weight. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks for any advice in advance

thanks Linda
My surgeon has redone the letter and they rang me this morning to let me know that they had tried to fax it thru but it was constantly engaged so to come and get it - I am getting a friend to pick it up for me and she will fax it off tomorrow from work for me.
My gp who i thought would be the easiest to get the letter revised decided that he didnt want to have 'life threatening' as he believes it is only potentially life threatening - but before i could start crying and begging (i would have done that right then and there lol) he said that as i have had depression and mental issues due to my weight he will change the letter to be one about chronic mental disturbance - he just wanted my ok to do that - which is fine cause i have always had lots of isses with self confidence and panic attacks when out in public etc so hopefully that will be fine with apra - hopefully!
thanks again for everyones help

Hi Ally, a phone call to Dr Kemps rooms certainly wouldn't hurt. His receptionist was lovely when I saw him. Have exactly what you want him to say and maybe you can email it to them. I didn't have any pain whatsoever. All I can suggest is that you drink smaller quantities at once and have them more often. I've heard that helps. Maybe just 200mls at a time. I'm glad you are feeling better and a little teary never hurt anyone. Surgery does strange things to our bodies.

thankyou so much for your replies Linda and Sue
I'm heading to that link right now - Linda do you think it would be easier if I ask Dr Kemp to do the specialists letter instead of asking D Deutscher again? I hope I can get this all sorted out today!
I do feel better today - I am taking mersyndal for the pain. It doesnt take it away but it certainly makes it less noticable. I must say when I left the hospital no one had mentioned anything about pain relief or even when to take the bandages off!
I find that I get this really horrible indigestion pain anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes after drinking - I am wondering if this is the pain from the fluid going through the little hole? Also I seem to get it everynow and then even when I havent had anything to drink for ages.
I am hoping this is just normal pain that will subside as the swelling goes down.
Thanks again for your info and words of encouragement I ended up having a bit of a teary on Saturday - I felt better after it though lol

Hi Ally, stop stressing. It can all get sorted out. Firstly, do you have any pain relief? I took mersyndol and it was wonderful. When you are feeling a bit better, go to the apra thread and find out from others exactly how their letters were worded. I am sure a call to Dr Kemps rooms would be fruitful. If you need to speak to the staff at Dr Ds just ask for jo. She will help. Welcome to the other side.

Hi Allson
Sounds like this is stressing you out. Hey why not try your local GP re the letter - it will probably be easier if you have a good relationship.
How are you feeling post op - hope that you are feeling more upbeat today - it is a big step you have taken - you have been brave in taking it - you are changing your life for the better. Go easy on yourself |

hello everyone
well as i should of expected mothing will go right for me - i am in pain from the surgery and now i have an email from APRA saying that i need to get:
Written confirmation from a registered medical specialist;
* that such treatment is not readily available to you through the public health system.
Written confirmation from a registered medical practitioner;
* that your treatment is necessary to treat a life threatening illness or injury, or to alleviate acute or chronic pain, or acute or chronic mental disturbance.
** We are unable to accept "potentially life threatening" as the current legislation is quite specific.
It took over a week of phone calls to get the letter from Deutscher in the first place - now i have to start again and knowing my luck he will not be willing to say that its not readily availble thru the public health system when it is availble - it may take 1 - 3 years waiting but it is available ..
Why is it that everyone else posts how easy it has all been and how they had no trouble with APRA?? i am wishing i had never bothered doing this now - i have had enough!

Hello everyone
Thanks for all your replies. I am so nervous I feel a bit ill. I have never had surgery before so it's a bit scary but I am sure like everyone before me I will look back and think "why was I so worried?" - well I hope so LOL
I have very few things to take actually. I have my mob and mp3, a few mags and a sudoku book (love working the old brain) but other then that I have just a nighty, toiletries and underwear of cause oh and my dressing gown. I have not bothered with a change of clothes as the ones I wear this morning will be comfortable enough for the short trip home.
Well I better go shower and call the cab - I shall hopefully be back tomorrow to fill you all in on how it went.
Thanks again

Hi Ally - I wasn't given a choice re knickers had to wear the disposable ones for surgery - no biggie really for me.
Believe me you will not want to go home that night - sleep and take whats going for any pain etc.......
For me it was pretty easy - but you do need to take the time to rest and recover....
Good luck - hope we catch you at the next dinner |

Hi Ally, all the best for tomorrow. I'm not sure of the policy regarding knickers. I think they told me to remove all clothing and put on a gown. I had to ask for some disposable knickers. They are pretty big. Also if they bring food to you it doesn't mean you can eat it. Just liquids.
Cheers

What to take to hospital:

Probably more on there than you need, but better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
All the best. |
