Snap Linda, I was in to see Dr Deutscher today too! My appointment was 10.15. Me and my partner went in for final appointment before surgery! Just over 3 weeks to go! Have to say I'm Pooping my pants! He put me at ease a bit more, but its still a scary place. Really looking forward to meeting you all on Wed for lunch!

Have just remembered there is an a surgeon in Warrnambool doing lap band surgery, Mr Philip Gan. Not sure if that's any closer for you or not?

BMI was 40, now 31 after 2 months. I went to Stephen Blamey at The Avenue, Windsor, but had the surgery at Cabrini Hospital. Was only in hospital for one night and home the next evening.

There is also a surgeon in Bendigo who is starting up as we speak, Mr Alan Skidmore. How far would Bendigo be for you?

I know you have said you don't want to go to Melbourne but I also live in country Victoria ..... saw a Melbourne surgeon on 12th Feb and he had a cancellation for surgery the following Monday! I could have waited til the next available time and that was about 6 weeks after the initial consult. I also didn't need to see a physician, dietitian or counsellor before surgery either.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
I actually live in Horsham so that's why I don't really want to go to Melbourne for the operation. Ballarat is only just under 2hrs from here whereas Melbourne is 4 hrs.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
Yes the surgeons office said the waiting list for the op is about 12mnths but I think they say that to everyone. My GP reckons it will only be about 6mths. By the time you go through all the appointments the time will hopefully fly.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
that's awful - fancy anyone having to wait that long when you've got private cover! I would definitely be looking further afield

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
I think she meant that Deutcher gave her 12 months as an estimated waiting time, nothing to do with her cover kicking in, just that he can't do it much faster.

I do have private health cover but I can't have the surgery in Melbourne as I have a 6 month old and need to have surgery close to home so hubby can look after the little man. I don't mind waiting 12mnths but I suspect it will be alot sooner.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
Hi Camdana, do you want to wait 12 months? Do you have to wait for you private health fund to kick in? If you go to say The Avenue in Melbourne you will get in a lot quicker. I think the gap is about the same but all your fills will be bulk billed. Do you want to come to lunch with us on Wed?

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
Thanks for the reply Lindaev,
I just got my referral from my GP and booked in to see Dr Deutscher on May 13. YEAH!!!!! The receptionist said that it's about 12 months from 1st appointment to op. Has anyone been given a referral from their GP to have the surgeon say no to the op. Worried cause I have a low BMI but I have PCOS, depression and a history of diabetis in family.
