Hi Guys,
I have been resting and getting better. I have to say, I feel really lucky. I have had very little pain. Day three was probably the worst. Its day five now and I haven't taken anything stronger than panadol. Trying to get passed head hunger is hard. I am in adelaide with my mum for a few days. Its hard to watch other people eat. Most of the time its not because I am hungry, its because I want to eat what they are. I get over it with a cup of soup or some liquid yohgurt. I just need to grow up and realise food is not as important as I think it is.
I just wanted to comment about the weight loss thing. I didn't actually loose any weight before surgery. Dr D still did it. On the opp table when he came in, he said how much have you lost, and when I said Im the same, he said, we will talk more when you wake up. He never did tho. That said, I wish I did loose weight, I had nightmares about him opening me up and my liver was too big or something happened and I waisted everyones time. |

Hi Alison, I thought it was pretty standard practice with him to tell everyone that. I was really surprised when he told Claudette that she didn't have to lose weight. I had a friend have the surgery with him and he told her 5 - 10 kilos but he might have changed it later to 10 - 15. She weighed 146kgs. He told me 5 - 10 kgs and I weighed 108. It is pretty standard. Don't stress about it. I lost 5 kgs before. If you put yourself on the intense opti stage 1 month before surgery you will be fine. Your liver will be in good condition and you will have set yourself up for the surgery and have a weight loss advantage as well. Don't worry about it now. Mark it in your diary and stock up on your optifast ready for it. Get mentally prepared and then forget about it. Whatever you do don't go back to the dietician. Might as well spend that money on optifast.
Cheers

Hi Alison,
Don't stress yourself out. Yes 15 kilos is alot but don't think about the whole 15kgs. Do 5kgs at a time. Dr D is not going to deny you surgery if you can't loose the whole amount. I think he is trying to test your committment level. I have heard that it is very important to him that you show him your 100% committed to losing weight and following the rules. You want this surgery, don't you? Well you can do it girl and you have all of us here to help you drop those kilos!!!!
So you have to wait until October because of your health insurance? I misunderstood your last thread and thought the 6th of October was the date Dr D gave you as the earliest date for surgery. Did he say how long the waiting list is?
Once again stop thinking about how much weight you have to lose and concerntrate on how much you want and need this surgery. The lap band is going to change your life and if it takes a couple of months of hard work to get it, it's worth it. Oh and don't worry about ranting that's what we're here for isn't it? We believe you can do it so it's just you, you need to convince!
Good Luck

Hello Dana and everyone,
Well i spent more then 5 minutes with him this time for less money LOL he went over a lot more about the surgery and what dr kemp, physio guy and dietition had sent to him. The only one i cared about was dr kemp who had already told me i had 'passed' and could have it!
but then when i was sitting there thinking everything is fine he turns around and says i really need to lose 10 - 15 kilos before the surgery .. i had already been telling myself that i probably would be asked to lose some (first appt i was advised 5 - 10)but now its 10 - 15! oh and i should contact the dietician and pay another $85 to find out how to eat really badly so i starve myself thinner for the surgery lol (thats not happening i can follow optifast without being told how to)
Did anyone else get told this after going back to confirm that you can and want to go ahead with the surgery? and if so did you lose the weight he asked you too?
i must say im quite stunned and i felt like saying if its that easy hey i will just lose the 60 odd kilos on a really long diet and bugger the band!! but i didnt of cause lol
i know im over-reacting and its 15 kilos not 60 but seriously its still a lot and i will have to do optifast probably for a month to try and lose it and i will be stressing the whole time thinking if i fail 'yet again' another diet i wont have the surgery! so the stress will make me want to eat all the yummy bad foods that i love and then of cause the hunger will make me want to too!! cant win is how i see it at the moment lol
so i am now waiting for them to call and schedule in a date for me (but of cause its oct due to health insurance or later)
i guess im just a bit disappointed now that i have to stress over losing a heap of weight for the surgery. im sure its all easier and everything for them to do it but im also sure im not the biggest person to come along and be operated on!
sorry for ranting everyone |

Hi Claudette, Congratulations on being banded. I am so glad it went well, you will be so happy with your results in a couple of months. It is just the best thing I did.
I won't be at the next lunch, I have to work, so I hope I catch up with you all in the near future.
For those going to the band camp, I will meet you then.
Bye for now and good luck Claudette,

Hi Allison, it won't be long before you are pill free! I gave up my high blood pressure tablets after about 6 months.
Claudette, sending you good vibes for Monday.
