Spoke to the receptionist last week and apparently Dr D won't be back from holidays until the 10th of June. They might be waiting until he gets back before making any appointments. Hope that helps with the waiting game. Why they don't just make the op appointment on the day you see him, I don't understand. Maybe they enjoy seeing us in pain. LOL
Thanks Allison

Hi ladies,
Thanks for the reply. I saw all 3 on the same day. Dr Kemp was great, he is so thorough. I agree Alison, he is definately the only one we should have to see. The dietician was pointless, as you say we all know what we should and shouldn't eat. And the physio, $65 for what????
I have my final appointment with Dr D on 16th June. The dietician said she thought they were booking people in for August and September. Is it just me or are the receptionists a little rude? Anywho, hopefully we should have the op by the end of the year. Not too long to wait I suppose.
I didn't realise that Dr D charged extra for fills. I suppose anyway to make money hey!
Thanks again ladies.

Hello Dana
thanks Dana .. i did feel better after i thought about it all properly lol
The woman in the office i spoke with said dont be surprised if i dont get a call for anywhere up to 2 months. but i am hoping they call soon as i have to book holidays with work. i have already booked 3 weeks for oct and am hoping it will be then or november .. i really dont want to wait too much longer.
I never went back to see the dietician again. I really dont have the money to spare for something like that, plus i was quite annoyed with the first appointment only telling me what i already know, what i should and shouldnt eat!!
with the cost of everyday things going up i am not able to pay for something like that anymore, especially since there is so much info online and from everyone on here willing to help and share their experiences. i am even considering getting a housemate which will be interesting as i havent lived with anyone for 8 years now and am not good at putting up with other people LOL
what stage are you up to with Dr D? have you seen Dr Kemp yet? out of the 3 i found that Dr Kemp is the only one we really should be asked to see. the other two were a waste of money. the physio didnt tell me anything knew about having to exercise either.

Hi Dana
Are you aware that the cost of your fills isn't included in Deutchers price like it is with a lot of the Melbourne surgeons? All those fills add up and it's very much worth thinking about =) |

Hi Dana,
I didn't go back for another appointment. I really just didn't have the extra $$. The surgery is expensive enough. However, it is really up to you. Some days, when I feel I havn't eaten enough, or eaten to much, I think, maybe I should go see her. But I dont have the spare cash at the moment. Also, keep in mind, the internet, and these lovely people who have already experienced it all, will be a wealth of information. On my last appointment with Dr D, I asked him flat out, if I needed to go see her again, and he said no, its only a recomendation. On saying that tho, he says differnent things to different people. |

Hi Alison, you sound alot better well done. Just a question for those of you who have had or are having surgery with Dr Deutcher. I saw the dietician today and she has asked me to come back in 3 weeks to go over what I will be eating after the op and to see if I have lost any weight. Is this appointment necessary or is she just trying to get money out of me. I read some of you have warned not to go back for the 2nd appointment??????
Alison how long did Dr D's receptionist say the wait was?

Hello everyone
i would like to thank everyone for their encouragement and advise. I am planning on taking the optifast way to lose the weight. I still havent heard yet about when but i will plan to do the optifast full on for a month before the surgery. that should certainly get me down at least 10 kilos when i compare the optifast to what i eat now.
i think i was having one of those panic moments when i think its all too hard!! i am so sure i will do it as i want the surgery as i know the band is the only thing to help kill the hunger when surviving on very small amounts.
Congradulations Claudette on your weight loss so far. 7 kilos down in 2 weeks is excellent. You must be so happy. i am really happy for you.
well off again i go. i will post my date once i finally get it. cant wait!!!

Hey Claudette, congrats on the weight loss. You are going great. If you are craving ssomething savoury have some miso soup. You can buy bonito powder in the asian section at coles. Just mix it with hot water. It takes away those savoury cravings.

Hi Guys,
Really sorry I didn't make it for lunch. Work sprung a training course on me. Really sorry to miss lunch, but couldn't afford to miss the training.
On a lighter note... literally... I am down 7kg in two weeks! Really over soup! Im slowly introducing mushys into my diet. But still pretty limited to baby food consistancy. I have these moments when I think I would give anything for a steak, or even just a vegimite sandwich with fresh white bread and butter! But then I tell myself to GROW UP, its just food. I have heeps more energy than normal too.
Anyhoo, put my name down for next month, I will be there for sure! |

Hi Guys,
I have been resting and getting better. I have to say, I feel really lucky. I have had very little pain. Day three was probably the worst. Its day five now and I haven't taken anything stronger than panadol. Trying to get passed head hunger is hard. I am in adelaide with my mum for a few days. Its hard to watch other people eat. Most of the time its not because I am hungry, its because I want to eat what they are. I get over it with a cup of soup or some liquid yohgurt. I just need to grow up and realise food is not as important as I think it is.
I just wanted to comment about the weight loss thing. I didn't actually loose any weight before surgery. Dr D still did it. On the opp table when he came in, he said how much have you lost, and when I said Im the same, he said, we will talk more when you wake up. He never did tho. That said, I wish I did loose weight, I had nightmares about him opening me up and my liver was too big or something happened and I waisted everyones time. |

Hi Alison, I thought it was pretty standard practice with him to tell everyone that. I was really surprised when he told Claudette that she didn't have to lose weight. I had a friend have the surgery with him and he told her 5 - 10 kilos but he might have changed it later to 10 - 15. She weighed 146kgs. He told me 5 - 10 kgs and I weighed 108. It is pretty standard. Don't stress about it. I lost 5 kgs before. If you put yourself on the intense opti stage 1 month before surgery you will be fine. Your liver will be in good condition and you will have set yourself up for the surgery and have a weight loss advantage as well. Don't worry about it now. Mark it in your diary and stock up on your optifast ready for it. Get mentally prepared and then forget about it. Whatever you do don't go back to the dietician. Might as well spend that money on optifast.
Cheers

Hi Alison,
Don't stress yourself out. Yes 15 kilos is alot but don't think about the whole 15kgs. Do 5kgs at a time. Dr D is not going to deny you surgery if you can't loose the whole amount. I think he is trying to test your committment level. I have heard that it is very important to him that you show him your 100% committed to losing weight and following the rules. You want this surgery, don't you? Well you can do it girl and you have all of us here to help you drop those kilos!!!!
So you have to wait until October because of your health insurance? I misunderstood your last thread and thought the 6th of October was the date Dr D gave you as the earliest date for surgery. Did he say how long the waiting list is?
Once again stop thinking about how much weight you have to lose and concerntrate on how much you want and need this surgery. The lap band is going to change your life and if it takes a couple of months of hard work to get it, it's worth it. Oh and don't worry about ranting that's what we're here for isn't it? We believe you can do it so it's just you, you need to convince!
Good Luck
