I've recently spoken to a couple of people who were waiting for 'the' phone call - one waited a month and the other was longer. I wouldn't be waiting by the phone =p

Hi peoples,
Sorry to hear about the infection Claudette. Hope your doing better.
Alison have you received a phone call yet? It's been over a week since my last appointment with Dr D and I'm going insane waiting for the nurse to call. I know I'm going to have to wait for surgery but it's this waiting for a phone call that's driving me nuts. Once I have a date, whether it be August, September or next year I'll be ok but its not hearing anything that's frustrating.
Sorry for whinging but it is whinge wednesday.
Hope everyone is good.
Dana

Hi Guys,
Sorry I missed lunch. I have actually spent the last week in hospital. After my bad experience trying to get my first fill, I came down with an infection in the port. Last wed night I got a fever and pretty bad pain around the port. Rang the surgery on thursday and they told me to go strait to st johns. Long and the short of it is, they had to take the port out. I have to go back in a few months so they can put a new one in. What a nightmare! He put one mil in, to give me some restriction, but I have to say it hasn't done much. Its just such a dissapointment to have come so far and have this set back. Dr D has been very good.

April I had Dr Deutscher in Ballarat in Dec 2006. I believe his waiting time now is something like 6 months to a year. His charge for fills is around $130. You are about $30 out of pocket after the medicare rebate. I have had 7 fills.

Bah to no difference. What is his current waiting timeframe?

As a private patient, Dr Winnetts waiting time is less than 3 months currently.

I am a private patient April. It doesn't matter with Dr Deutscher. Also I believe he does charge for fills.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
Dana, I am going to Dr Winnett in Melbourne, he has offices in Williamstown, Carolyn Springs and Werribee (I think). Although i dont think he bulk bills fills, but I am looking at seeing if after awhile i can move clinics to Ballarat (ie after surgery and the first few fills). Can you do that? I got an appointment with him within 2 weeks or so.

My mum tells me he is very nice.

Does the Ballarat Dr (sorry i forget his name) charge for fills, and if so, how much?

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
it's not too late Dana, it will be quicker probably the same cost and if you go to a clinic in Melb all your fills will be bulk billed.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
You still have to see his team between the 1st and 2nd appointments and I understand why all these appointments so far apart. I just can't understand why it takes the nurse so long to ring you with a date. And like I have said previously, they get so annoyed when you ask them how long it's going to be to get your surgery. Most of us just want to know roughly when it might be as we have work, families and children to organize. My husband has to do a course for 5 weeks but as I had no idea when my surgery would be, he had to book it in and we're praying it won't be at the same time. Maybe I should have taken the advice you ladies gave me at the start and had the surgery in Melbourne. Oh well, what's done is done.
Thanks Dana

It never used to be like that. When I had my second appointment with him I waited in reception and they gave me a date. It was a long wait between 1st and 2nd appointment as you had all the other appointments in between. They just seem to have taken too much on.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
Hi everyone & Alison,
Had my 2nd appointment with Dr D yesterday (not my final appointment as he still wants to see me a month b4 surgery to sign forms or something). Everything went really well and he's ok'ed me for surgery which I'm extremely excited about. I then spoke to the receptionist who said it could take more than 6 weeks for the nurse to ring with a surgery date. So like you Alison I'm now waiting by the phone. Can anyone tell me why it takes them so long to book you in for surgery. I understand why the wait for surgery is so long but why make us wait to be told a date. I no understand. LOL. Hope everyone is going well.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
Hello Dana and everyone

Unfortunately I havent heard anything yet. As he had been away until this Tuesday i thought i would leave it until next week and then give them a call, hopefully to get a nice receptionist!! lol

Congrats on the loss of 7 Kilos Claudette. Thats still good when you havent had a fill and feel that you can eat almost as much as pre-band. I hope that you get a fill next time without all the prodding and pain! This is something i am not looking forward to. I dont hate needles but i dont think i am going to like them prodding me with one several times.

Hey Linda

I am sorry that you havent found Milo. Its very sad when they go missing. I hope you find him.

I wont be able to make this meetup either. Hopefully i will be able to get the day off for the next one. I am looking forward to catching up with everyone.

Allison

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
Hi April,

I'm pretty confident it is just a 12 month waiting period with all insurance companies. If we looked closely at all the walking time bombs with "pre-existing illnesses" that haven't been diagnosed yet, the insurance companies wouldn't pay for any-one's surgery.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
i need a bit of help ladies, and im hoping you might be able to help me.

my mum had an appointment for a lapband, a few weeks back. Now she is prepared to pay for the whole thing (no phi or medicare), as she was told that her health insurance company wouldnt pay for it. She has only just taken out health insurance this year, and knows that their is a waiting period (of 12 months) but she thinks that because it is a pre-diagnosed condition (being over weight) that they wont pay up on it, even if she waited the 12 months. does this sound right, or does she have the wrong end of the stick?

Thanks

april

Hi Claud, the appointments are usually just a check up and then you decide together whether to have a fill or not. Same time is allowed but a bit more charged for the fill.

Hey Alison,
Heard anything yet? Got a letter from Dr D office to change my appointment time on Monday from 2.30 to 3.15 cause he's in surgery. I asked his receptionist how long from last appt to surgery and she said she couldn't tell me. She has a long list of people to ring and book in for surgery. So Alison if you haven't heard yet you may get a phone call today. By the way I spoke to Leanne who was very nice. So maybe it's just one or two women down there that are rude.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
What is the receptionists problem?????? I can not believe how rude they are down there. Have they forgotten that we are paying a great deal of money for this surgery and without us they would not have a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the rant but I can't stand bad customer service and those girls dont seem to know the meaning of common courtesy.

Re:Ballarat and surrounds support Reply to this message
I think I got your appointment today!! He was sooo busy. He gave me a card that said 2 weeks and the nurse spat it. She said there is no way I can get in for that time. I said, I have to work something out, cause he couldnt fill me and I havent had my first fill yet. She grumbled at me, then gave me 5pm on 24th june. I think it was a tack on. Because its the first fill, I think he wants to do it. Is there someone else that can do the fills in Ballarat? If this is a sign of things to come, its gonna be really hard to or gan ise our lives! Linda, was yours for a fill or a check up? If you dont mind me asking.
