Thankyou Linda, as it is only day 2 not really liking the bandit world today. HA HA :)
Yes I've got the pocket book and Judy did send me some info on liquids. She's a bit of a pain. I don't think she understands that we have paid out enough money and now only need to pay for the basics. |

Hi Dana, just cancel it. I have some sheets here for liquids and mushies that I can email you. Have you bought the pocket gastric banding guide? That is really helpful. Mr D does not have the TEDS stockings or the swallow.
Welcome to the bandit world!!!!!!

Hi girls,
Had my surgery yesterday. Admission at 7.30am, operation at 8.30am and discharge at 12.30pm today. I got one of those card Linda but I didn't have an x-ray or swallow, is that normal for Mr Deutcher? Just a question for you Linda and Sue, are you guys talking about the dietician Judy? I had my first appointment with her and she asked me to come back for another before the op. I didn't and as I live 2 hours from Ballarat I asked her if she could tell me what she needed to tell me over the phone. She reluctantly agreed. I then get a phone call from her 2 days before surgery saying she needs to see me 3 weeks after my op and has made an appointment for me. She was a little rude and insistant. Has anyone else had these issues with her. Shouldn't we only have to see her if we are having difficulties?
Thanks
Dana
P.S. These gas pains are pretty bad. |

Hello everyone
well i finally have both letters and the forms so now I can fax them through on monday! YAY I hope its not going to take too long otherwise it will be something else to stress about! LOL
I agree with you Sue about the waiting time for this to be done - i really do think it has given me the time needed to get my head around things and get used to the idea that i wont be eating like i do anymore. i find that quite scary as i guess my food is the one thing i enjoy about my life at the moment (sad but true)! i'm also finding that i'm excited too knowing that my life is about to change for the better (first time ever) because i wont be able to eat so much any more!
I still can't picture myself thin though (or believe) that i will lose all the weight (eventually)! I have never been 'normal'!

J is exceptionally nice and very empathic and supportive. I have no problems seeing her instead of Dr D. I don't know anyone who hasn't had a run in with L

the other thing - whilst we may have additional oop for visits - the up front fee is pretty good - I will get most of mine back on my private insurance - got $700+ from medicare and just waiting for the private claim - so total oops will be less the 2 k........so that is a lot less than many of the city based surgeon.
For me the waiting period - whilst frustrating - esp dealing with L and their booking system - which is improving as they now have additional operating time at hosp - was worthwhile - I changed my mind several times during the process - and think that if I had it done in a week or two that I would go into shock - this gave me the time to do all the head work that I needed to be in the right space before banding to get off on the right foot.
I recognise that everyone is different - I did complain along the way about the process - and I will probably talk with J about it more when I have my next fill in 3 weeks.

she seems really nice Linda - it is that bossy L who is the problem - she treats you like you are an idiot - obviously has absolutely no idea when it comes to being overweight. Dr is a bit of a purist - but he has been exceptionally kind to me.

Good on you Sue. Is Jo going to do the fills? She was doing them for awhile there but they had some problem with insurance. If Jo can do them again that is fantastic as she will be available for emergencies. No more waiting 8 weeks for an appointment. how wonderful will that be.

Hi all Ballarat - just thought that I would let you know that things are a changing at the surgery - I have no trouble getting my appointments when required for fill. David asked me last week if I was okay if nurse did fills - I have aways found him to be kind - yes he is busy - One particular person in the surgery is so rude and such a know all - but she wasn't around last week when I had my fill. Maybe..........
On other matters Linda I cancelled that appointment - then she rang me this morning on my way to work to ask me to book another one - I told her that I was coping very well on my own and didn't need anything from her.......stunned silence at the other end of the line!

Anyone having the surgery needs to know that there is a lapband card that comes with the band. It is supposed to be passed onto you after surgery. It states what size and type of band you have. They get thrown out a lot so ask about it before surgery and if you don't get it ask for one.

Dana,
Deutcher did my surgery and, because I was dissatisfied with the service I received, I moved to another Dr. in Melbourne for my fills, etc. I had no trouble at all. I didn't even need a referal letter (even though I had one). Andrew Monk is the person I see now, and he's fantastic. Just make sure you know the basics of your band - what kind it is, etc.

hey there
thanks again Jo and Linda for your info. I went in there today and he will now do the letter as required! i took the APRA form in to show why i needed it and that seemed to do the trick lol
so now i just need to complete the form and fax it once i have his letter! then all thats left is to organize myself to start the optifast (get mentally prepared) and hopefully there will be no more drama - especially the day of the surgery!

Alison, as far as the avenue goes you have to attend an information night first. Then you can be banded within weeks. Also everyone attending the information night gets a copy of the lapband solution by prof O'brien. My friend was actually banded in under a week after the information night. She gt a cancellation. Here is the link

Dana that is something that the surgeons rooms could tell you. You would probably have to have a referral to them and a lot of surgeons will not take on other surgeons patients for fills.

Hi Linda, I'm booked in for surgery with Mr Deutcher on 5th of September and I agree with what you said about him being sooo booked out. I was just wondering tho, can you get fills from other surgeons? Like if I was in Melbourne could I ring the Avenue and book in for a fill even tho they didn't do my surgery>
Thanks Dana |

Allison nobody else in Ballarat does it. If I had my time over I would go to one of the big centres in Melbourne like The Avenue. You can get fills even on a Saturday there. You pay a once only price, everything else is bulk billed and they look after you if you need corrective surgery. Dr Deuscher is so busy that you havto wait 8 weeks or more for an appointment and each time you see him it costs you.

Thanks Linda and Jo
I agree about the staff - most of them are so rude. I called once and was still explaining why i called when i realised the rude cow had just dumped me on hold ..
Its funny how they told me that they have never done this before - and acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. So I am going to go in after work on Monday to let them know that, firstly I know they have done this before, secondly that the letter needs to be as I have asked, and thirdly that I wont be leaving until I know its going to be as requested. I think they forget that we are actually the customer - he may be a surgeon but as there are plenty of them its not like he is doing me a favour - I am paying for this! Maybe they are making it difficult so I feel that I have to make an appointment so they can get another $150 odd out of me!
I must say I am so annoyed by this that I am considering calling around to see how quickly I could get in to see, and then get it done by someone else.
Does anyone know if there is anyone else in Ballarat that does it? Otherwise I am going to have to call around Geelong and Melbourne.
thanks |
