Stella,
You poor darling...I so know what your going thru. When I first started training, as Marion stated, I actually put on weight!! After the first three months I also had not shifted any weight or cm so I called in the professionals and saw dietician and personal trainer. This was really helpful. Sometimes you need some tweeking with eating and exercise.
I have also plateaued at the moment...I know your frustration!! But don't give up and don't compare yourself to the biggest loser cause that is, as Marion said, not reality.

Jacq ignore the biggest loser, that's Weight Watchers Disneyland.........it's not real.......they call it reality TV but who's reality that is is beyond me.
7kgs is NOT pathetic..........it's 14 half kilo tub of butter...........imagine that slapped back on your body???
My little dog weighs 7kgs and I had to carry her for half of our walk the other day because she got exhausted in the heat. Believe me 7kgs is NOT light, my arms were aching so bad by the time I got back to the car.
I explained to you why you have probably lost nothing since starting at the gym. Some female pt clients GAIN weight at the beginning.

greebs I have a vibration exercise machine (not the one you mention). I love it, it has done a lot to help me tone up. I've been using it for just under 6 weeks and lost 5.5cm on my hips, 4cm on my waist, 2cms on each thigh.
It is also very relaxing and makes you feel good. It has also (I think) helped with my reflux and I'm sleeping like a log, which is unusual for me.
If you use them on a regular basis I believe they can help with weight loss but they can't take the place of active exercise. I have lost about 1kg in 6 weeks but then I don't have a lot to lose to get back to goal.
Having said this I'm not telling anyone to buy one without doing their homework. It works for me because I use it for 30 minutes most days of the week.

eoralin, basically there aren't any exercises you can do to remove the hanging part (apron). You can do ab and core exercises which will strengthen and tone but what is hanging is skin and remaining fat.....exercise can't touch that. Believe me I know because I exercised myself into the ground while I was losing. I had to have a full torso lift to remove a 20cm band of excess skin.
Also crunches will not dislodge your port, it's sewn into muscle. You are quite safe to do them.

Ok Kerri.........I'm not a fan of the bike but if it's what you want to use.
Have you ever taken an RPM or Spin class?
What they do is basically interval training on a bike.
Start off by warming up at a moderate speed for about 10 minutes. Then go as hard and fast as you can for 1 minute. Back to moderate for 2 minutes (keep pedaling). Back to hard and fast as you can for 1 minute......back to moderate 2 minutes......back h/f for 1 minute. Repeat this about 6 times. Finish with 5-10 minutes cool down at slow to moderate speed.
As you get used to that regime you can go fast for 2, moderate for 2 and increase the resistance level on the bike.
You might want to look into doing an RPM class or two.
Want to come over for a coffee at all this week?

| I am fairly similar to you..are you an october bandit like me? I have no friggin idea how much is in my band because every time i ask he tells me a different number! I have only lost 10kg, it was 4 months yesterday since my surgery. I was 113kg when i first saw the surgeon, then i began to lose, so i was 107kg d.o.b. and now am 97kg. I too am annoyed to the max. The biggwest loser is the biggest farce going. Thaey do unrealistic amounts of exercise and have a diet that is not of their own doing, don't ever believe that that show is realistic. Stick to your calorie limit and walk walk walk, go girl, we can do this!!! |

Hi Stella...
Well done on your weight loss.
I am just totally over it all. I do the exercise, I push myself and my portions are small and I hardly ever eat junk food and of course the scales have not moved! My clothes dont even feel any different. I think I have hit the depression wall. I feel like I cant do it anymore, that I have wasted all this time, effort and money and in nearly 4 mths I have managed to lose only 7kgs. That is a pathetic number, I dont care what they say. The pple on biggest loser are pulling those numbers in 1 week!!!!
I really think something is wrong with me. Its not normal to lose no weight. I have lost NOTHING since i started the gym and that was now 5 weeks ago. I tell pple and they looked shocked. They see how much I eat and they see what I do at the gym and they dont get it. I dont friggin get it. I just want to cry and of course I just feel like going to maccas and eating and eating till I cant stop. |

Hey Jacqui
I was also done on the 31 October in Brisbane - So far I have lost 21 Kg's and have had my second fill last Tuesday
I still have 39.1 kg's to go and I know it is going to be an uphill battle but I am holding on so far.
The main thing is not to loose hope - and only weigh once a week - stay away from the scales as much as possible. It is very disheartning if you don't loose as much as you have wished. Remember this lap band is just a tool to help us eat less - but it does help to eat healthy and not too much Ice creams, alcahol and excessive snacks like potato chips.
Excercise is also important to get those flabby bits back into shape. I do an Hour power walk in the afternoons - about 3-4 kilometers - I find it helps with the flab. I have gone from a size 22 to a 18!!!
Keep up the fight! |

After my banding i lost 50 kg in a year. And have now kept it off for over a year, what i am saying is its for life so it doesn't matter how long it takes it's how long it is maintained for. |

Hi Jacq, I was going to suggest you contact Andrew too. If he's not near you he may know someone who is. Andrew also has an Aussie Lapband Group on Facebook too.

Jacqui, you are in the best place to be looking for a P.T. You need to contact Andy Spalding. He is in that area, has a lap band himself and is now a P.T. His website: www.activebalance.net has all his contact details. (remove any spaces if yahoo adds them)

Hi jacq. Firstly 7kgs in 3 months is great, you are losing at the same rate I did.
You say you do two classes a week plus a bit after extra. What do you do inbetween? I used to do 3 sessions a week with my personal trainer plus I walk about 5-6 days a week for an hour. Can you do a walk most days of the week. It doesn't have to be an hour to start with. Just going around the block is a good start as long as it's regular. Then you can increase is as your weight comes down and your strength increases.
Even though your portions are small, if you are still eating high calorie foods like chips your weight loss is going to suffer. You need to keep an honest food diary and eat small amounts of good foods about 5-6 times a day. You should aim at eating a little protein and a little unrefined carbs at each meal.
Unfortunately 4 weeks of exercising is often not long enough to make a difference. Body combat is a great calorie burning class but Body Pump is a strength building class and probably burns half the calories of combat. Is it possible for you add another combat classes....or even a couple of aqua aerobics classes?
Although you haven't seen any movement on your scales you will find that things have started to change in your body. Your body fat percentage will have started to go down. Your lean tissue and muscle will have started to increase. And with this your measurements will have started to go down.
Try to implement some of the things I've said and take your measurements about once a month.
