Hi,
a cross trainer (eliptical machine) gives you a great workout, I've found for me it works better than a treadmill or bike. Its great if you have problems with pounding the pavement(as I do) as you don't lift your feet off the steps (no jarring motion). As you walk/run in an eliptical motion it really takes the pressure off your ankles and feet. Lisa |

Hi Marion
Have been lurking in these corridors since banded Jan 07 and have been totally inspired by you and others and this is my first post. I'm a Spearwood girl and see Dr Couch. Have been lucky so far with no problems to speak of apart from the hating of exercise and love of food.Have lost just on 30 kgs and would love to lose another 15 but without exercise I'd have to starve myself to get there and we all know that doesn't work for long! |

Hi Marion, thanks for the plan, haven't read through it all yet, taking bits from it as I go that I know I can do and will stick to, a lot of it makes perfect sense.
Can you give me some exercises to do for my flabby underarms, I use 1.5kg weights when doing step aerobics but have never felt like I am using the muscles (maybe I don't have any). Unfortunately I cannot use exercise machines as I have a very curious two year old and anyway theres no room with all her toys.
thanks Nic |

I got two new clients yesterday. A husband and wife couple who are both thinking of having the banding. They are going to start training with me next week. I'm so glad they have decided to start exercising and training before their banding as it will give them a flying start.

Have a look at this link. You can get them at a lot of different places like Orbit, Amart Allsports etc Also you might be able to find one on Ebay in your area.

Nic, I wouldn't say an exercise bike is the best piece of exercise machinery to buy but it is better than not having anything. At least you can use it if the weather is too bad to go out walking. To me the best thing to get is a crosstrainer and after that a treadmill. The crosstrainer uses twice the muscles and burns twice the calories. My last personal trainer called the stationery bike the 'Lazy Man's Exercise Machine' lol. This of course is just personal opinion as I don't want to offend anyone who loves their exercise bike!

Nic I don't think it will hurt you if it stays up there but as you get to the end slow down and warm down and make sure you stretch.
Yes please if you could ask the Yahoo rep to make this sticky too that would be great. I don't know any other way to ask them. If anyone else know how to ask them directly that would be great.
Thanks |

oh marion I may have given you the wrong impression, I am no exercise buff, my heart rate would get to the 150 just collecting the mail, the 190 or so sounds about right when I am exercising, should it stay up there for the whole 30mins.
Also do you want us to start replying to your new thread for Mr Yahoo. |

Nic your maximum heartrate should be 220 - 31 = 189
But it's very unlikely it would get that high.
I would say you need it to be between 120 and 150 to be in your fat burning zone.
