Hi Bron
The straps are pretty stretchy and comfortable - at least I found them to be. Otherwise I think it would not be too difficult to either extend or attach a larger strap if you needed to.

Hi Nic
I have exercised with a Polar for years. It does not take long at all to get used to the chest strap. Mine even used to sit over the port with no discomfort at all. In fact, I often forget I have it on :-) They are an excellent tool for exercising.
Regards
Andrea
PS maybe you try before you buy |

| Hi Nic - Polar dont make one as they're not accurate. I've had sales people tell me they are - but on doing some online research they're not. |

Nic I don't think there is one. You need the chest strap for acurate readings.

Does anyone know which Model of Polar Heart Rate Monitors that measures through your wrist without having to use the chest strap? I have looked up Polar but no luck as yet

JUST A WARNING
For those of you who go walking, especially at the beach front or in a park.
The snakes are coming out early this year so don't let your dogs run into the undergrowth. While my daughter and I were out this morning there was a HUGE dugite sunning it's self on the side of the path! Yikes!

Marion,
I was banded 2 years a go and have been at goal for 1 year, with no effort at all. I am off to have another fill in a couple of weeks ajust to top up whats there as I haven't had one for 18 months.
If I didn't have the fat deposit on my back I could wear a lycra top and look good! I am very small on top, its my thighs that are the real curse! I'm not saying I will wear a tight shirt ever, but just trying to say that I am quite thin and boney on top apart from the "problem" area.
Thanks

Hi Jen :-)
Mine has a chest monitor which admittedly was a bit uncomfortable to begin with. But I think you can get ones that can measure your pulse through your wrist?
It can do a whole array of things but thats far to technical for me! I primarily use it to determine my optimum heart rate for burning fat. Then I aim to keep my heart rate in that range whilst Im exercising. If my heart rate drops, the watch beeps at me to tell me to speed up -if my heart rate goes to high which can be dangerous it beeps to tell me to slow down.
Just seeing my heart rate makes me motivated! And I feel like a real exercise pro when I wear it - its like a secret hand shake with all those exercise freaks at JL! LOL not that Im at that level yet ;-) |

Felice,
what exactly does the polar watch do and what does it entail, do you have to wear a chest strap and is it just heart rate or can it do other stuff?

Hi Schmee, they are very good, I have one myself and use it whenever I train. I find it a big incentive in my training sessions.

Hi Madonna, I also have that problem and as you say it's very annoying. It's a bit difficult to target that area with specific exercise as fat will go from the areas it wants to, you can't target an area to lose fat. I would say that any exercise for the butt (glutes) would help. These are things like squats, lunges etc. Are you still losing weight or are you at goal now?

Marion,
Hi there! Is there a particular way/angle I should tackle me back fat!!! hehehehe
I don't have normal fat... as in rolls down the sides of my back, I have a row of fat deposited above my B U M , from one side of me to the other! It is not pleasant.
It is a result of too much food over the years and also bad breading!!! Mum is thin and she has this little fatty deposit where mine is... so its her fault, tottally!!!! :)
What excercise will target this area? I row a lot and love it, but its doing nothing! Apart from that I walk..... um and thats it.
Thanks so much,
Madonna |

I am going to put my two bobs worth in here and you can like it or lump it... but the cross trainer is the thing that gives me the most grief at the gym. I have no idea how old you are, but I too have knee problems, and it is the one thing I hate doing because my knees hurt. I find that the treadmill is ok on my legs and knees, as is the bike, but the cross trainer is hard on my knees.
Why don't you hire one for a bit and see how you go with it. Or, go to a gym for a look and ask them if you can have a go on all the peices of equipment that interest you... you don't have to join.
Anyway, that is my thoughts on it all. My trainer does not push me onto the cross trainer because it does cause me a bit of pain. I did do it today, but could only do five minutes before I had to get off. But I cycled 10ks and then walked 5klms... as well as some circuits with weights today... knees hurt when I do lunges as well.
I blame myself... my knees wouldn't be so shot if I hadn't been carrying around excess kilos for 20 years.
Good luck with it all...

Thanks for your response Marion.
I think I am leaning towards the crosstrainer, I have noticed that altho my knees still hurt they haven't been as bad as what they were before I started loosing the weight. Will have to have a look around for prices now.
Thanks again

Hi Shellbella,
It is still very early days for you. Take it easy on yourself and relax, 8 kilos is great! Yes, the overeating stitch is a pest, but a good reminder to stop eating. As I said, I only get it these days when I am at the gym or have really over eaten.
Keep up the good work... and as I said, hang in there, it is still the beginning of your journey.

Hi Mels.mania
I was reading your message and thought hey that happens to me when I eat too much I get a sharp pain on my left side (it's like a stitch but only happens when I eat too much food) I was banded on 16 July 2008 and so for have only lost in total about 8 kgs, so I reckon I need another fill (only had one fill so far - 3 mls) due for check up in the next fortnight. Hi Noodles, this is a little difficult as the most common exercise machines are treadmill and crosstrainer. These will both have your knees aching but I think you will find if you used them gently to start your knees would get used to them. As you come down in weight the pressure on your knees will lessen. My particular choice would be the crosstrainer because it burns about twice the calories of the treadmill in the same exercise period.
Other than those your could get an exercise bike (either recumbent or upright) or a rowing machine. The bike will burn about the same as the treadmill. The rowing machine, if used properly, will burn almost as much as the crosstrainer.
Whichever one you get, you'll have to use it consistently for it to make a difference. My favourite would be the crosstrainer but you would have to start just doing a couple of minutes and work up.
My least favourite would be the bike as it's really the lazy mans workout machine (that's a quote from a previous trainer I had lol).
Hope this helps

Hi Andrea.... no it doesn't. I have always suffered from a shocking stitch in my port area... until recently. I had more fill and cannot eat nearly as much as I was eating, and wholah... stitch gone. I still get it whilst exercising, so my theory is that with me... it is something to do with the muscle where the port is stitched in, nerves and whatever else. The main thing these days is that it doesn't happen all the time like it used to. Too much food was obviously my problem.

Hi Marion,
Quick question for you. I haven't really done much excerise yet, was banded on 28/07/08. I have arthritis in both my knees from years of carrying excess weight and find if I walk too much I start clicking and the knees hurt chronically. I am interested in getting some sort of excerise machine to get me started on my way. What do you recommend?
Thanks

Hi Mel
That is an interesting theory as to why stitches occur however, it doesn't explain why stitches can occur whilst exercising in a non-weight bearing manner such as swimmng when you are in fact horizontal. Maybe there is more than one cause of stitches.
