itchy port site is likely just your body healing? Did other banders have itchiness? I got a small tattoo on my back in my early 20s as a dare and it itched and ITTCHHED. It was part of the healing process but so annoying. The port site is what I fear the most because its so frankenstein! I'm 11 weeks pre-op.

Jen I know what you mean about the rubber smell. I bought a new medicine ball and it stunk out my gym for weeks. Try giving it a wash with disinfectant and maybe leave it in the shed for a while till the smell goes.

grnps, a torso lift is more than a tummy tuck. With the torso lift you are cut all the way round. Then a band of flesh about 20cms in width is removed. The remaining skin is pulled down and the muscles and skin are resewn. Op takes 6-8hrs and you are in hospital for about a week. Takes about 3 months to get back to normal.

When I had mine done it cost about $18,000 all up but got about $4,000 back.

by the way... glen 20 is good at getting rid of smells in the house...it does not just cover up the smell..it destroys it.

Hi Jen,

I have two fit balls and neither smell...and it isn't that they do and I don't notice. They really don't smell.

I suffer badly from migranes when in contact with perfumes. I think they should ban perfume they effect me more than smoking.

Suggestion...you could try washing with soap and water..maybe a soup like one that we wash ourselves in pre-op...can't remember the name.

However, I think once smelly always smelly...so maybe you may have to get yourself a new one.

Goodluck.

Does anyone now how to get a fit ball to stop stinking, i've had it for a couple of months now and my house is small so i've been storing in my bedroom. At night i have to cover it with a blanket as the smell is like sleeping in a room with a giant condom..it's horrid, should I wash it...any ideas, I hide it in my room so the kids don't bust it by playing with it.

Thanks Jo...

Marion I am thinking that I will need a torso lift too .

Is that a tummy tuck?

What sort of price does that set you back?

Hi grnps, I would think the itching is just continued healing. You should be fine to do crunches now. My torso lift was over 2 yrs ago and I still get internal itching. It drives me barmy as I can't scratch it!

Just got back from a gorgeous weekend in Echuca =D
grnps - nah, my band isn't leaking, apparently I have no pouch and my eosophagus is stretched. Even if it does get fixed this year I won't get any fill put in it, I want to finish losing the weight on my own and use the band for maintenance if it starts creeping back on.
As far as the itchy port goes - if it isn't hot to touch or smelly (or has puss) it sounds ok, maybe get your Dr. to take a look at it next time you go.
Cheers
Jo.

Anyone have problems with their port while exercising...

I don't know if I am being over cautious but my port area still feels a bit itchy...so i don't do anything like bending and stretching much.

I have been banded over eight weeks now.

What do you reckon...time for crunches?

Sorry to hear about your band trouble...is it a leaking?

When you go to a place like Kokoda...or any of those remote type countries. I would think that even if you do get your band fixed, that it would be better to remove all the restriction from it.

Anyone know the go on that?

Re:EXERCISES for Bandits to do at home. Reply to this message
Thanks for that =)
Right now I'd probably only get about half way, that's why we've booked for 2010, gives me plenty of time to get ready. I've got the personality for it (stubborn and determined =p) but not the cardio necessary - I'm as strong as an ox but don't have a huge amount of stamina.
My personal trainer and physio. are going to write me up a programme in April, until then I'm still working on getting the rest of the weight off and sticking with the exercise I'm doing now, as I love it and it works with the weightloss.
My band is doing c.rap all for me at the moment (it's empty, I have no restriction and it needs surgery to fix it) and, unless they can fix it by the end of the year, it can wait until I get back from the trek, I'm not getting physically ready for the hike and then having to take 8 weeks off strenous exercise while I heal, It'd put me back to square one.
We're doing the nine day trek too, thanks for the info.
Jo.

Hi Impish,

My husband did the Kokoda track in May...He did the nine day treck. I just asked him what would be the best tip he could give you..he said 'just one foot after the other no matter how hard it gets' and do a lot of training.

We walked up Mount Kiera every afternoon...and around the mountain on weekends..We thought that Mt Kiera was steep...When he got home head to toe in heat rash it had rained non stop. He said Mount Keira was like a walk in the park.

He said he would never go again but it was an experience of a life time...

Ohhh... he now just informs me that...'I wouldn't say I would never go again'. How easily it is forgotten it seems that...time really does heal all wounds.

My hat goes off to you...

Re:EXERCISES for Bandits to do at home. Reply to this message
Hi Marion
I've just signed up to do the Kokoda Trek in 2010. I need to work on my endurance and cardio. I do pump 4 times a week, kickboxing 3 times a week as well as a weights programme. I've got very strong but need to increase my cardio fitness as I find it lets me down. Any suggestions to do that keeping in mind that I'm training to do mostly uphill walking? We've got one small mountain that I could climb and intend to regularly, but no buildings with a wad of stairs to climb (as suggested by people who have done the trek). I absolutely HATE the stairmaster at the gym, it bores me stupid.
Thanks in advance =)
PS Anyone who might be seriously interested in doing this, let me know, we're after a few more for our group (April, 2010, finishing in time for ANZAC day).

Re:EXERCISES for Bandits to do at home. Reply to this message
You need to stretch out your ham strings. Try standing on the edge of a step with your toes and slowly lower your heels down towards the ground. You may need to hold on to something. Raise back up and repeat a couple of times. You should feel the stretch down the back of your legs.

Another is to stand with one leg stretched out to the side and the other a little bent at the knee. Gently press down on the extended leg just above the knee (don't press on the knee joint). Again you should feel the stretch. Do these smoothly and gently, don't force anything.

Also if you have a bath, a soothing soak would be good to help your muscles relax. Add radox if you have it.

Hope these help
