Hi Bron, it is called Lean Dessert Protein and the make is BSN. It's in bright red tubs with silvery grey lids. You can get them in health food shops, sports stores that sell supplements and from on-line sellers. It comes in six flavours Banana Nut Bread, Banana Cream, Choc Fudge, Choc Coconut, Vanilla and Cinnamon Roll. They are very yummy and have very little fat and carbs.

| Hi Katherinemay21, all i can say is last week i saw my surgeon 2 weeks after being banded, who confirmed that walking, treadmilling is ok as long as yr not jogging, but, any other exercise equipment example: i enquired about the cross trainer is not allowed until minimum 6 weeks after surgery. This is due to the port being stapled to your muscle & if ample time is not given to heal you may pop the staples & move port out of place. As suggest walking & treadmill ok in the meantime. Take care |

Hi Rebecca, the very best exercise for the butt is squats. This might be difficult for you with the pain in your feet and knee. If you have a fit ball you can use it against the wall to take some of the pressure off as you squat.
An exercise you can do laying down which will target both your thighs and butt is leg raises.
Lay on your side on a mat. Support your head on your lower arm and stabalise yourself with the other arm. Pull in your tummy muscles and relax your shoulders. Lift your upper leg up as far as you can and then lower until it almost touches the lower leg but do not put it down completely. Do this raising and lowering slowly and steadily and as you raise your leg clench your butt cheeks. If you feel an ache in your back brace your foot (the OPPOSITE of pointing your toes). Raise and lower your leg 10-12 times, have 30 seconds rest, repeat this 3 times. Then change sides and do it all with your other leg.
This is very good for your inner thighs and your butt.
Will come back later and give you and Felice some more exercises for bingo wings and butt/thighs.

Hi Felice,
You can also do tricep extensions.
Tricep Extensions
You can sit or stand for this exercise. Hold a weight in one hand, probably about 2kgs if you are new to using weights or 3-4kgs if you are more advanced.
Sit or stand with your tummy muscles pulled in and your shoulders back and down. Lift the arm with the weight up and alongside your head touching your ear. Do not move the your upper arm, imagine it is glued to the side of your head. Bend your elbow to 90degrees so that your lower arm goes across your head and the weight goes down the other side of your head. Then lift you arm up again until it is straight up above your head. Repeat this ONLY moving your elbow joint 10-12 times......be careful not to hit yourself in the head with the weight! Then repeat with the other arm. Do this alternating arms 3 times. This is a great exercise for upper arm and shoulder sculpting.

Hi pilbara,
I would say you could start up training/exercising after 2-3 weeks depending how you feel. I was very lucky and had no complications and virtually no pain so I was training about 2 weeks after my banding.

Hi Random, once the scars from the op have healed over you can swim. Don't go into a public pool until you are sure they are all healed. My surgeon told me that a private pool or the ocean are cleaner than a public pool!

So sorry I haven't been back in a lot of things have happened lately.
First we had a death in the family, then I had a dreadful throat and ear infection. Then my Mum arrived from the UK for an 8 week holiday. We went to Esperance for a holiday and the weather was awful! lol and then my son and his long time girlfriend got married in Mauritius and we had a reception/party for them on Saturday night!
Literally it never rains but it pours! |

Hi Marion
I was just wondering if you could suggest some excercises for people who suffer from arthritis. i'm 30 and have been diagnosed with Psoratic Arthritis.... its mainly in my feet, and my right knee. Was banded on the 12th of March and have lost 23 kilos. Was going great guns with a personal trainer but the pain stopped me and since being diagnosed havent been game to try anything but i need to do something as i feel so lazy and need to get rid of my stalker butt and flabby thighs!
Thanks

goodmorning ...
I haven't been here before...I think I am feeling guilty.
I havn't exercised for a couple of days. Except for the square dance training on Tuesday.
I think it's the weather i like to ride my bike and swim at Tawradgi pool.
felice...you should try swimming...great for the arms. After winter and I start swimming again I notice... my neck returns to me and chin my looks like one again.... as well as the arms and legs start to feel really toned.
Where do you swim juls?
...I hate chair dips too.
I started walking and riding my bike two weeks on...mind you my bike is electric. so it is peddle assisted.
My port site hurt for a while and so I never did any thing like crunches for a few months.
at week seven I asked my surgeon about crunches and he told me not just yet. I didn't mind cause like I said to him...then that ment that my husband could continue to do the dishwasher, bed, laundry and anything else that required bending...My surgeon offered to write me a note...hehe got to love my surgeon.
I would love to try my hand at belly dancing...that is supposed to be soo good for womens...internals....yes ?
Looks like rain...I have a gym at home...I just have to use it. now is the time.
Cheers

| Was lap banded nov1 and went back to swimming on the 12th. Wounds had healed BUT am using waterproof dressings for 2 weeks which I remove after swim and paint iodine over the area. Safety first - don't want any infection. Am walking again also - not very far though. |

| I should probably ask my doctor this one but does anyone know when you can go back to your regular exercise routine you had pre-op? I cycle, walk and belly dance and don't want to be out of action for too long...I'm afraid I wont get back into it otherwise. |

Sorry I haven't been back, a mixture of illness, social events and a family member passing away have kept me busy.
Below are some stretches for anyone who has sore thighs from climbing stairs etc.
Quad/Adductor muscles stretches
Stand holding on to something firm. Bend your knee bringing your foot up behind you grab your foot and pull it upwards. Point your knee inwards. This will probably hurt but it will stretch all the muscles that are paining you.
Another you can do, again stand holding something firm. Bending your knee lift your foot up and place it on your other thigh and push your bent leg gently away.
Similar ones can be done sitting on the floor or bed.
Sitting, stretch your legs out infront of you. Bend one knee and lift your foot and place it on the outside of the other leg. Gently push your bent leg away. Try to hold each stretch for 10-15 seconds.
Sitting, stretch your legs out infront of you. Bend one knee and lift your foot and place it on the inside of the other thigh. Gently push down on your bent leg.
Keep as still as poss while doing these and don't rock or tilt. Also don't place your foot on or inside your knee joint or press on your knee joint. Don't force the stretches, only go as far as you are comfortable. Expect it to hurt because you have drastically shortened your quad muscles and they need to be stretched out again.
Obviously when you have done a stretch with one leg, repeat with the other.....lol |

| I was done 2 days ago. Today I got up and started to go some gentle clean up around the house. Its been in a bit of a state because while on the optifast, I had no energy to do my work, let alone the house, so the house was neglected. Now I'm finding I want to do the house work. Today I washed dishes and picked up papers from the floor. Later, I'll put those dishes away and get the vac out. I'm taking it really slowly, but I'm actually enjoying being able to do it again. |
