Hey just thought I would check in to let you know I am almost 4 weeks post op and feeling great. Also 9 kg down so wrapped about that. For all those that I may have scarred with my posts about post op pain. I now feel great and am wrapped with my decision.
Amanda, Lucky you a bikini, I can only dream of buying one.
Sara, Wow how quick have you got your op. Took me 3 months from 1st appt. At least you dont have much time to stress. |

Hi Everyone,
Amanda, congratulations on the bikinis! How exciting! I can't wait to get that far. I still have so much to lose before even contemplating it. But, someone once gave me the advice to look at what I have achieved so far, not at the mountain still to climb. I have lost 11 kg since starting the pre-op diet. The weight hasn't moved for a couple of days and that's always a bit disappointing. Just as well I can't (really can't) "comfort-eat" and undo it all like so many times before.
It's been 10 days post-op and I haven't started proper exercise yet. Went for a couple of short walks (10 mins and 30 mins 2 days later). Otherwise just doing errands, walking through the shopping centre, grocery shopping etc. An hour of that tires me out so much that I need to get back home and lie down. Did you feel like that as well in the first week? I'm just grateful that I don't have to go to work for another week.
Brooke, reading about everyone's experiences has been inspirational for me. I'm so glad I found this thread.

Hi everyone,
Sarah... you don't muck around, do you! How exciting, to be getting this done so soon. You are already on your way.
Brooke, read, read, read away... I spent about 2 weeks reading this thread from the beginning (ie, oldest date first!) when I was considering the surgery, and it really helped. That was over a year ago, so much less to read than now, but even if you read a few months worth it will really give you the answers to a lot of your questions. If you can't be bothered doing that, ask away... we are here and ready to lend you our experiences.
Jess, 10kgs in such a short time.., you must be so happy you went down this path. And the best thing is, its goodbye forever to those kgs... and only more to come.
On a personal note... I went out yesterday and *gasp* not one, but TWO bikini's for my big trip this summer. OMG!!! It has been a long long time since I have even contemplated a bikini, but this season has more of a 50's style... more bottom and tummy coverage (at least a little more!) Anyway.... This has definately incresed my motivation to get back to the gym. My goal is 3 times per week, starting tomorrow. Anyone want to hold me to that?? Ha Ha
Cheers,
Amanda |

Sorry i haven't posted in a while, i've been really busy with uni classes and assessments. How is everything going? What stage are you at with the food? How much have you lost?
I am proud to say i now weigh 75kgs!!! I have lost 10kgs in about 6 weeks. My blood pressure is heaps better and i am feeling a lot healthier and happier.
My goal is 70kgs by november so i am on track which is awesome. I have my cousins wedding in december so i am hoping to be below 70 for that.

| Libbi, I was taking a break from the cricket which I hate. Bad enough watching it during the summer with out watching it at this time of the year. |

| Libbi, I certainly am a different person from a week ago. I now feel great and my head is also in a great place. After the op I was in so much more pain than expected and I was having so many doubts. Wondering could I have done it myself and wondering what had I done to myself. I felt very confused about my decision. Now 2 weeks on I have no pain and am 7.7kg down and so so happy with everything. Once the pain goes away so does all the worry. Sorry to anyone that I may have frightened, although propably good to know the games our mind can play with us. I am now just so excited with the new me to come and am not looking back. More than happy with my decision. Thanks for the support. |

Hi again Sarah... for me, maintenance has been pretty easy *touch wood*, but as Libbi says, not without fluctuations. I've been un and down a few kg's over the past 5 months, but at least it is up and down, not like up and up (and up!) like pre-band.

Jess, how are you going with your first fill? Can you feel the restriction - some doctors put in a lot at once, some miniscule amounts bit by bit.
And Tanya, how are you managing with your food intolerances?

Minnie, so good to hear you are home and well and positive. All good wishes for the liquid stage.
And Terra, you are a different person from a week ago! It sounds as though you've come through all that pain at last. Reading about your experience will be so useful to others.
Sara, regarding expectations: the health people expect you to lose half to one kilo a week, and for me it was half a kilo, that is two kgs a month. It took me 12 months to lose 22 kgs, but others lose much more, like Amanda. It sounds so little, but it's very steady and suddenly you're almost thin! A slow weight loss like that means you're not losing muscle tissue. Sometimes I lost nothing for two weeks, then it started happening again. It's recommended that you don't weigh yourself too often because natural fluctuations can be quite disheartening.
As an aside, I see that Who magazine is involving Curves in a promotion for people to lose 20 kgs in 12 weeks. That sounds really unhealthy to me (but perhaps I'm just envious!).
As for maintenance, Sara, I've added a couple of kgs, so had a fill last week of .5 which I had to have removed the next day (plus some, due to swelling) - I couldn't even keep down liquid (despite the ok water test at the time of fill). So it's all a complicated process still; I'll have another little top up soon. A reminder to myself and everyone else - keep a plastic bag and small face cloth in your bag in case of blockage and the dreaded 'sliming'!
Thank you, all, for all your posts, the feedback is so good to have.
Libbi |

Hi Amanda,
Thanks for all the info is incouraging to think that maybe in a year the old body might be back to a weight I can live with. With my first two kids I only put on 12 and 8kilos but with my last baby I put on a whopping 22kilos(couldn't believe it) and have basically not lost that and been slowly putting on more. Now you have lost the weight do you find it easy enough to maintain the weight or do you still struggle??Anyway it was great speaking will let you know how appointment goes.

Everything went really well, was able to go home less than 18 hours after the op. Felt a bit sick and sore on the way home (1 hr drive). Panadol minicapsules went down without any problems.
Not hungry at all! Last night I took 3 tbsp. of WW pumpkin & potato soup and mixed it with hot water to thin it down. I tasted sooo good! It was almost too much at once. I can't believe how satisfying such a little amount of food can be.
I'm about to go on a little 10 min walk, as prescribed. I really want to do this by the book for as long as I can. All in all, I'm very happy I went through with this. |

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your message. Glad your boy is healthy, and sounds like he's nearly all grown up now! Ha Ha. My girl is nearly 6, and seems so grown up now she's at school! I put on 30kgs for each pregnancy (2), and only took off about 15kgs after each, so all up was more than 30kgss overweight, as I started off not really in the healthy range. After banding (Feb last year) I lost weight slowly but steadily, about half a kg a week most weeks in the beginning. Once I'd lost 20kg it was much slower weight loss.... about half a kg - 1 kg a month. It took exactly 12 months (Feb this year) to lose the 30kg and be in the healthy weight range. I have maintained since then, and not been as dedicated with diet & exercise. Wilst losing, I did exersise (Curves) 2-3 times a week, which I'm sure did help. I am hoping to get back to it regularly again, but it has been hard to keep motivated after so long.
So good luck with your appointment... let us know how it all goes.
Cheers,
Amanda |

| Thanks Terratime, I'm having the op at The Avenue, tomorrow afternoon. If all goes well, I'm back home on Saturday. I won't mind optifast for another week, quite like to use the choc one as a hot chocolate. But then, I'm looking forward to some nice soups, some variety, too, Looking forward to 2 weeks off work, sleeping in, resting... |

Hey Minnie, Is your op tomorrow. Best of luck, just remember even if you feel like c r a p the road to recovery is reasonably quick. Where are you having your surgery? Keep us posted on how it all goes. Also I refused to have opti after the op because I hated it while I was on it, much prefer to hae yummy soups and different flavours than that yucky stuff. Good luck....
Libbi, You have given me lots of nice soup ideas to try. Now that I feel good I am happy to cook and experiment with different things like you have mentioned. This all gets so much easier once you feel well. Have had a few people ask me if I am loosing weight so thats a bit exciting, not only are the scales moving but its starting to be noticable. So excited. |

Hi Libbi,
Ha Ha... Yes, it is crazy to worry about half a slice of toast! That's probably 'half a point' in old Weight Watchers language. NOTHING! Thank about the past, pre-band... a slip up (for me) might have been an extra bowl of pasta, or half a block of chocholate!
It's weird how differently we can eat though... I would never have been satisfied with half a slice of toast since having my op. I can always eat two slices, no worries. That is why I keep getting nervous about how much longer my good luck is going to continue. My surgeon is certainly not putting in any more fill, and is still warning me that he might take some OUT if I continue to regurgitate too much, as this can increase the risk of the band slipping, which I do not want. But I am eating way more than I should be able to already, such as last night a normal slice of quiche and a BIG crunchy salad. I was not stuffed full... just mildly satisfied, and had to restrain myself from searching for food later. I guess the difference to pre-band is that pre-band I would have had twice the amount of quique, and probably would have eaten food after as well. So it's all relative. Anyway, keep up the good work,
Amanda |
