Sandi,
Try to keep as mobile as you can, heaps of little walks out ot mail box and back will be fine! Pop the heat pack between your boobs, this gives me great relief. Other than that, are you eating really slowly when you do have a meal.
I have been banded for 2 years nearly and I still get pain, mostly due to eating too quickly I think. Make sure you are taking something to help you stay regular.

Amanda, Belvil,Bontop,Mandy, Ads, and all of you, THANKYOU for your suport.
Yes Im looking after the kids, as well as myself, but they are helping like little angels that they are. Its just that I had no idea the pain was going to be this bad. I was told no pain killers except that dissolvable panadol, and up until 3 30 am this morning i couldnt take it as it made me nauseus.
Its the stabbing pain through my chest cavity and rib cage that Im assuming is what you guys are referring to as wind pain. Ive tried De gas chewable, and peppermint tea, on your advice, to no avail. I just want to wrench the f. ing thing out of my body.......until I read your posts.
God you guys....you must have been put on this earth for me...lol.
Yes I know I must be patient, and yes I pray that in time I will learn to love my band, and be happy that i had it done, but grrrrr at the moment I am suffering from guilt that I am putting my kids out, inconveniencing everyone on the planet, and HATE losing my independence.
I woke this morning after having a night from HELL, like someone was putting my head in a vice, and taking pleasure from squeezing my brains and bits and bobs out.And from the pain of like those chinese swords, I can't remember what you call them, cos i seem to have some sort of alzheimers at the moment, like they are being stabbed through my under breast section, then taken out, then plunged back in again....get my drift?
Of course you all do.
I'm mad as hell that is 22 degrees outside, the sun is shining through my window, the birds are bloody singing their little guts out, my 87 year old next door neighbour is sweeping my front Verandah, and I feel like a useless blob, shifting from side to side on the sofa.
RIGHT. THat's enough of my complaining, and whinging.
Thankyou so much for listening to me.
Im sorry that I am negative at the moment. I believe you all when you say it will get better, and Im sorry for being a selfish pratt.
My love Sandi. |

Hi Belvil
No idea what caused the slipped band but looking back it seems it probably began way back in November but I just didn't realise, I am a foster carer and got a sick newborn baby in my care and thought the problems were stress so I had all fill out and was still struggling, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Most slips are a little kinder than mine, it was big and closed off my stomach, the pain was excruiating and no way could be ignored. My surgeons are great though and had me sorted within about 8 hours on Easter Saturday! I am happy with my progress but have never had really tight restriction and haven't rushed it really, still think the sizings must be wrong, don't feel like a 10-12, probably will come with time.
Take care

So glad to hear that your ok, first and foremost!
Its painful its true, but the pain goes away after a couple of weeks and you'll be back to normal I Promise! And there will be times when you won’t even realise that you've had anything done at all until you start getting fills or until you have too much of something you know that you shouldn’t have.
Take your time to heal and just mellow out for now, go with how your body feels and remember that you now have a tool that will help you monitor food intake so with that in mind what’s ahead of you is going to be FANTASTIC because you'll have more control than ever before.
Am so happy and proud of you! You’ve come so far already
You Go girl

Sandi you poor thing I no how you feel it took me a good 10days to 2 weeks to feel myself again. And now 6 weeks down the track would have no idea I had it done.
I too wish I hadnt at the time had it done there was a lot more pain and lack of energy that I hated.
You hang in there and get through it best you can. Keep posting happy to listen. |

Oh Deb, it was like I posted this message myself.
I hear you honey and can relate.
I am 35, and had a laminectomy & discectomy at 29. In those 6 years I put on another 10kg hitting 95.4kg at 160cm. My GP was very upset at me, but knows how much pain I am in when I exercise ; it's like a catch-22.
Then hubby tells me he wants to try for a baby. And I just freaked out. I would never do anything to my back to jeopardise more back surgery.
So I took my GP's advise and researched Lab Band. I had a lot of support and a lot of mixed reactions.
My favorite line and the one that stopped a lot of people in their tracts was "i hear you, but unless you have had back surgery you don't know the pain I feel each day, so I will be doing this for my future". Who can argue with that?
I figured I'm 35 and have (hopefully) another 55 years on this earth so if I can find a tool to help monitor my food intake and help me lose weight LONG TERM why not take the chance.
I am 8 weeks post-banded and am sitting on 9.8kg loss so far.

So sorry you are not feeling yourself! It will get better, I promise you.
I was ready to beg the surgeon to take my band out on day 2 after my op and now 12 days later I am smiling and eating most things and ready to beg for a fill on Monday hehe
I felt the same as you are doing now, the pain in my chest and shoulder was intense and I could not sleep on my side and it was just c r a p! I was wondering if I made the right decision.
It really does get better, take it one day at a time. Keep taking painkillers, I took Panamax as it gave me a bit of trots which was better than constipation. I find if I take stuff with codeine I retain water and get headaches but everyone is different.
Just small sips to prevent gas.
Before you know you will be smiling!
Lots of hugs

Hi Deb
You have similar stats to me plus the discectomy and back problems, your story is very common to most of us on this forum having tried everything, it would be especially difficult if you can't exercise too. It is not the easy way out for sure but only people really close to you will believe that, it's not worth arguing, it's your choice and you only have to please yourself! I was banded just over a year ago and have lost about 21kg and am now wearing size 12 tops and size 10 pants. I am very happy but have had a recent problem being a major slip and had to have my band removed and replaced. I am now getting better every day and am feeling very happy with my decision again. Between now and your date do all the research and reading you can, ask lots of questions, we are very friendly on this thread and happy to help.
Good luck

Hi Sandi
You poor thing, I remember after (my first) op thinking surely it shouldn't be this painful, nobody said it was this bad! But it really does suddenly all get better and within a couple of days you will be feeling a whole lot better, promise! Hang in there. I can't wait for the chance in a couple of months when you are fully healed and looking and feeling fantastic to remind you that you wanted it gone, lol. You will definately be the bubbly chirpy happy Sandi again very soon, keep up the meds and fluids and rest ALL that you can (from recent experience I can tell you so much can wait - yes I have a mountain size pile of ironing now and I really need to do a major declutter and spring clean from nearly four weeks neglect but now I am feeling better it won't take long!).
Take care and keep talking to us when you feel up to it.

Oh Sandi, you sound so sad... I wish I could speed things up for you, but alas, those initial days are quite painful and only time and rest will make a difference. And if I remember rightly, you don't have a big chance for real rest as you are looking after your kids without help. I'm sure that is making your recovery harder than for those of us who had the luxury of someone else caring for us and the kids.
It probably doesn't seem so now, but yes, you will feel your old self agin, and its a bit like child birth - you forget how bad you really felt once that feeling has passed. After a week I felt still fragile but much much better, and after 10 days nearly normal. However, I was still taking pain killers (panadine, mersyndol etc) on a regular basis for at least 10 days - 2 weeks. Have you got good pain killers? You really need them every 4 hours including in the middle of the night for the first days/week.
All the best.. look forward to hearing how you feel in a few days. Amanda x |

Well Hello All my beautiful girls.
I am at home now, and I dont think I should post my comments for all to read...meaning those who are not yet banded....
To those of you who have done it not just once, but twice......I salute you. I bow down to you in humble admiration....
Lets just say, I did not find the experience "enlightening"or "positive".
I do not want to discourage anyone from having it done, and I would prefer to pass comment in a few weeks time, when I feel like a loving human being again.
It has taken me this long to even want to turn on the laptop, since the op on Monday.
Please please tell me, Amanda, Mandy,Gem, Ads,all of you, please tell me I will feel my bubbly chirpy happy self again soon...
If I could take it all away in the flick of a finger.....I would in a hearbeat. Thats all I will say today.
Except for THANKYOU for being the blessed souls you all are.
My Love Sandi. |

| DeB I am 160cm and was 93kg so not much different, I havent told anyone but my husband. I dont feel like a fraud because like you I have tryed everything and always seem to get bigger. It was affecting my life in every way especailly mentally. You need it becasue of your back pain and there is nothing worse than living through back pain. do it for yourself to live a healthy life with out high blood pressure and back pain. People can say it's the easy way out it's not and it's not something people do to lose a couple of kilos because they feel like it. |

Deb,
Do It! I am also maybe not as big as many being banded, I was way smaller than anyone at the seminar I went too. I also have a bad back and my Dr said with all the other joint problems I have, I would be stupid not to have it done, I also have only told family and 3 friends(who I think are judging me, cause they havent rung me since I told them. Do it for you, its you who has to handle the pain constantly, anything that can help ease that is worth it. I am being done tomorrow. Good Luck on your journey.

| Hello, my name is Deb i am 45 years of age, 162cm and weigh 90kg. I had a discectomy in Deb 2007 and for the 12 months prior i managed to acculmulate 27kgs. I have tried every diet in the world, my orthopod surgeon has told me that if i dont lose weight i can look forward to more back pain and more surgery. I have a date booked for Jul 2,2008. I just wanted to see if i can lose the weight myself. But i realise now that i cannot be on a diet for the rest of my life, i now cannot exercise anymore, have high blood pressure. I guess i just felt like a fraud for having this surgery when i wasn't morbidly obese. I will not tell any of my friends cause i bought up the subject of lap banding and they all think its the easy way out. Easy to say when you are size 10. How did your surgery go? Have you had great results. |

Just thought I should add, ladies getting banded soon my case is very rare and the complications have been due mainly to the severe slip not the lapband surgery, my first surgery was fine and I was 90% fine within 2 weeks so please don't let me worry you.

Hi bontop
I am getting there with my recovery but it hasn't been easy this time around, first the internal bleeding which still causes me a lot of pain, now I have constant indigestion which is very uncomfortable, I rang the nurse and she said because of the traumatic slip I had there will be swelling for a lot longer and because I am trying to eat some mushies, my body doesn't like it. I went to the surgeons room so they could see if there is any fluid or air they can get out the band to make me a bit more comfortable and there was actually 3ml in it (much to their surprise). So I am hoping to feel better soon now thats out. Feel like a right moaner lately but I am run down and tired and life keeps on moving fast while I can only move slow - very frustrating....
I am sure things will move quickly for you once you have restriction. I have lost a bit of weight since the band slip, probably 2.5kg so am a bit under my initial goal (I am 65kg now) but still feel ultimately I could lose a few more kgs.
Have a good day

Hi all
Lorraine good luck for Friday, you must be very excited to begin this journey and lose some weight so your back is kinder to you. That was one of my main problems, I have had surgery for a prolopsed disc and still get problems but has been much better since banding.
Sandi can't wait to hear how you got on, thinking of you.
Hope you are all going well, you ladies that are waiting for restriction to kick in and weight loss to begin again try to be patient, it will happen honest. I remember thinking to myself "thats that then, failed again" but everyone goes through the same lull before the real journey begins. Keep in touch.
Take care

Well All,
I got up for the first time since Saturday(bad back) I decided to go for a drive with my hubby to Newcastle, STUPID, by the time I got home I had pain in my back, ribs, and boobs. I had to get my hubby to rub my back with Diflam, I think he enjoyed it. I have put a heat pack on it now while I wait to watch the Biggest Loser. I am actually hanging out to be put under and have a nice little nap... Hope all those who were done this week are doing well, my day Friday Yahoo! Lorraine |
