Hi Lulu,
thanks for you wishes,
I can still eat, I just fill up really quickly and sometimes it comes back up by itself...yuk...
I did loose a fair bit if weight initially but now I'm just staying the same, I'm a bit worried that when it is all fixed and before a get a fill I might put some of the weight back on.Dr said he wont put a fill in for a long while so everything heals up completely, we dont want any accidental damage to happen again.
Lisa.

Lisa you poor thing..

So I guess having the band moved, the port moved - it's like getting one for the first time.
Have you been able to eat or are you just on liquids? You must be so skinny!!
All the best for Wednesday.. I hope you have an easy and pain free time.
Will be thinking of you.

Hi All,

Went to see the Dr today and I have a large slip(from all the vomiting) and its partially blocking my stomach, having the band repositioned and restitch as well as my hernia repaired and the port moved on Wed. I'm first on the list so at least I dont have to wait all day like last time.

I'm feeling a little worried that I have to go through all that pain again but soon everything will be back to normal,

Lisa.

Hi Lulu,
Actually as much as I was going through a tough time I had a litter of 7 Labrador puppies here to look after, amazing what motherhood will do for you.

Oh Lisa - how horrible for you. You poor thing. I can't even imagine how miserable you were.
All the best for Friday. Try not to stress too much about it. I am thinking that if he was willing to leave the appointment over a week to see you, it shouldn't be too scary.
Will be great to get the op over and done with and get you little alien moved.
All the best. Will be looking out for you.

Hi Amanda,
I'm seeing the Dr on the 30th at his rooms and operation on the 4th Feb.
That's one thing that will be great, getting my port moved, it really looks like I have some sort of growth sticking out(it grosses my kids out that's for sure)

Thanks for all your advise and wishes, I will post as soon as I know something,
Lisa.

Hi Hayley, your weight loss has been so great and quick too. You must be working hard at it. The baby belly is a bummer, as I well know. Some people have skin that snaps right back, and others (like me) have skin that loses all elesticity and has stretch marks and unfortunately will never snap back to quite where it was again (damn those celebrety mothers, flashing their taught tummies mere months after giving birth!). I have resigned myself to a two piece forever now, whereas I was always a bikini girl before (not when obese of course! pre kids I mean). If that is the last think you've got to lose, then well done... you're nearly there, and I'm sure you look fantastic. Have the scales moves below 70 again? I think that they have a mond of their own sometimes, and tease us!
Cheers,
Amanda

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi Lisa, oh how scarey for you. Did you see the Dr this Fri just past, or next one coming? Let us all know the outcome. I always deal with anxiety by trying to get as much info as I can, as quickly as I can, so maybe you could ring the Dr or his secretary before the appointment and ask if you should be worried/can they tell you anything over the phone.
Jee, you must have been so sick to have caused a hernia, you poor thing. Sounds like in the end it will all be put right, and you will even get to have your port looking better as a bonus outcome (mine too looks sooooooo awful - sticks out an inch and looks like a huge lump! but I couldn't justify the surgery for that alone, so will have to put up with it). I hope you are feeling better and all is well soon,
Cheers,
Amanda

Oh Lisa, you poor thing. We read your email with our hearts in our mouths, as it could be any of us sometime. Do you know what caused the gastritis? Don't let yourself worry about the doctor seeing you: he needs to, to do his job properly, and if it were something really worrying he'd be seeing you immediately.

It always happens around a public holiday, doesn't it? Do let us know how you go, and what your doctor says.

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi everyone,

I haven't posted for a long while but I read quite often.
Well my story is quite long...
Just before Christmas I had what seemed to be a severe blockage, extreme pain, I would say worse than labour as I didn't get a break at all, my husband even said he'd never seen me like this before. I put up with the pain for a few hours trying to drink soft drink to try and help the blockage but to no avail. I ended up ringing my husband and telling him I have to go to the hospital where the doctor was going to meet me and he need to come home now.. 45 min it takes for him to get home and then another maybe 30 min wait at the hospital for the doctor to get there they took out all of my fill... wow I was finally able to talk and smile again and instantly felt better, but still nauseous and still sore.

I Was sent home and of course fluids for a few day but I still could not keep even small amounts of water down without vomiting..not good..doctors sent me for an abdo x ray and of course threw up the contrast after, it to till xmas eve that I went to my local Dr and she said I have gastritis and gave me anti acid tablets which did help but still couldn't eat xmas dinner or anything after for another few days... (I lost5 kilo in 10 Days, I was really ill) slowly I started to feel better but still not able to eat a lot and even now I still cant eat much at a time or dink with a meal and I have no fluid in my band and now even noticed I have a hernia in my mid abdomen(from all the vomiting).
Yesterday I went back to my surgeon and he said he can fix the hernia, move my port as it sticks out ridiculously now that I lost weight and also do a gastroscope to see whats going on but thinks it may still be swelling.
I had to drop back the xray I had plus my post surgery xray to him that arvo.
I get a phone call from his rooms a couple of hours later to say he wanted to see me next Fri at his rooms... now I'm really scared that he has seen something on the xray that

Hi there Libbipuss

thanks for your feedback, i as well as boodiful eat grapes, very often actually and i have no problem what so ever, i also eat tomato and potato with skins but with those two i have to chew the skin a bit more.

I have been keeping a bit of a random chart of my weight lose,

17/06/2008 95 Kilos
11/08/2008 83.5
18/08/2008 83.1
25/08/2008 82.5
6/10/2008 78
20/10/2008 77.4
10/11/2008 75.2
24/11/2008 73.8
8/12/2008 72.7
15/12/2008 72.3
19/01/2009 70.5

I think everyone is different with there weight lose, slowly or fast.

Have a lovely day

Thank you, Boodiful and Hayley. Your feedback is so helpful, even though you have achieved in six months what has taken me a year. But I'm happy anyhow!
Banded 23 Oct 2007 at 97.2, height 168, now 74 kg, overweight at last!

Boodiful, what a big weight loss after your fills. I've never done much better than 2 ks a month, now I'm down to one or so. Certainly, my main losses have been immediately after the fills and I hear/read that many of us lose the effect after a couple of weeks or so: I did, but now at 8 mls I think I've reached the limit. Sometimes I have a blockage which can last a couple of days (although breakfast toast goes down ok). I know it's a couple of days because when I force bringing it up it's 24 hour old food. Sorry to be so graphic but I thought the detail might help those who fear a two day blockage - it works out in the end. I understand it may be a sign of the band being too tight (my fault that), as well as eating on the go in the kitchen and not concentrating on chewing.

I'm interested that you can eat grapes, I haven't dared because of the skins - not a problem?

I think some are preparing for banding in February (Bell, Candice?). Tell us how you are going with Optifast etc.

Congrat to everyone,

I also thought id check in,

I was banded 24 june 08 weighing 95kilos i know weigh 71, my weight will go up up down a midge, i actually seen 69.9 on the scales last week but yesterday i weighed 71, i go up and down a kilo or 2 quite often, i have had 4 fills and go in for my 5th in 2 weeks.
I still find i can eat what ever i want and do get hungry, but also find i have to throw up quite often when eating meat or when i forget and have a drink straight after food, which i seem to do all the time :(

Everything is going great for me, just trying to loose some of my baby belly which seems to be the hardest thing to loose.

Good luck to every one

Hayley

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
hi, i was banded on the 28th july 2008, weighing 92kg. Now i'm at 76kg. I only seem to lose 3 or more kilos the few days after a fill (have had about 6), then nothing. So last week they discovered that i have a slow leak somewhere, so will have to have further surgery in the next couple of months. I only really had that full feeling the days after a fill, then i guess as it leaked out, the full feeling disappeared. I'm still losing weight, so that's a bonus! At the moment I can basically eat what i want eg Brekky:Coffee then porridge or cereal
Snack: Coffee, small biscuit
Lunch:tuna with mixed salad
Snack: Handful rice crackers or grapes or nuts
Dinner: Whatever family eats, small steak with salad
or chicken curry with small amount of rice etc.etc.
Small frozen yoghurt
I still get a reminder if i eat meat thats too dry or if i eat too fast, then i quickly have to throw it up due to it being stuck.
I didn't gain any weight over the xmas period either, which was a FIRST for me! Yay, the Band.
Cheers, boodiful

When getting a fill by x-ray ask your doctor about writing on your referral "please charge scheduled fee" this way you will only be out of pocket between $20 - $30 as this can be claimed from medicare.

I think i get about $95 back from medicare. Last time I had a fill one day ($170) and had to go back next day to have some removed ($170), so i want to make sure. I have platued for the last few months but weight starting to slowly shift, it takes to long to get an appt for a fill so i dont want to put this one off. Maybe i might ask for .02ml it might make all the difference. I cannot eat bread, meat, i tend to stick to vegetables, soups, dry biscuits and cheese, dips. I also cook alot in my slow cooker.

Hi dr

congratulations on being overweight!

It'd probably be worth getting another bit of fill, it might be just what you need to get the full feeling. Some people never do get it though.

Can you claim some of your $170 back from mecicare? Thats about the dearest i've ever seen! Not that i'm at that stage, but my surgeon only includes 4 fills after that you have to pay as well. Some only charge a nominal fee for the special needle they need to use, $10 or so, i like the sound of that better!

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi,
I have am very similar to drwhuangmail. Was banded on July 2nd 2008. At the time my weight was 90kgs. Now I am 75Kgs and the weight has been the same for past 3 months. I have had 3 fills since the surgery with the last fill in October. Its now 6.5mls.

Like you, I too feel hungry or rather peckish most of the time. I have not learned to recognise that "full" feeling either.

I would have liked to be 70 Kgs by January 1 2009, but just dont seem to be able to shift those 5 kilos. Mind you I have been travelling overseas most of the last 3 months. So the doctor did say he was comfortable with weight loss to date and did not want to risk any vomiting. The good news is that I did not gain any weight during holidays and over Xmas.

I next see the surgeon early February. I am hoping he will put in a tiny bit more fill. I can eat everything at the moment and hardly ever vomit.

One problem I am facing though, is hair loss. I notice now that my scalp is showing and hair is thinning. This bothers me. Am I going bald ? Has anyone else faced this problem.

Regards
