Kerrie,

I think it's 2 cups of light veges per day (non starchy), along with the 3 opti, 2-3L of water and unlimited diet jelly and bonox etc. Everyone's team is different, so just double check with your dietician/surgeon to confirm the details, but this is generally about normal.

Best of luck!

Marg :-)

Hi mack.eliza, I have just come back from holidays (last fling before my op)have to see my doctor on Monday and start the Optifast then I suspect am a bit nervous about that not sure what to make of that never have done it before. Does anyone know if you can have veg as a meal while on Opti. must buy some of those bars I keep reading about to help my through this stage. If I cannot get through this what am I going to be like after the op on fluids and mushy. We can compare notes have you started your Opti?

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi, I had a BMI of 30.6 and was told that I was borderline at that BMI. I went in prepared to argue for the lapband operation and explained to the doctor that I had been on a diet since I was 14 and am now over 50, have a family history of weight problems although no related medical issues YET and have researched the procedure and am realistic about the outcome. He was great and really understood that this was something I wanted to do. He assured me that I should do well with it and so I had it. Six weeks later I feel great, am losing weight slowly but will be keeping it off. I am really glad I had it done, although people think I am crazy but who cares.

Samsara, how did you go with your information session? Was the doctor present? In my case, a nurse educator conducted the session and wasn't able to speak for the surgeon and low bmi, but yours isn't really low compared with some of us. If you read back a couple of weeks you'll see some good posts about putting your case to the doctor. Tell us how you go.

Hi Samsaralady

My BMI was 35 at the time of surgery. When I went to see the surgeon I explained that I had tried every diet going and I had always put the weight back on. If you have a history of yo yo dieting that helps. Just be honest, I also explained that by waitng for the surgery my weight would just keep going up. Goodluck, let us know how you go. Where is your info session?

Has anyone had any experience with Dr Baxter on the sunshine coast and low bmi 32/33? I have an appointment booked with him in december and am undergoing pretests but just want to make sure he will understand the yo yo and that I am currently not at my highest though on the way up...again.

Hello, Andrea. Can't help you with lager, but many people say they have no trouble with champagne, although I have. Tried it in the first couple of months after banding and was sick in the restaurant all night (just as well it was a country setting so I could disappear over the railing outside). It's the sort of thing you could try at home. Since then I've had maybe half a glass of fizzy which I've managed alright, but it's safer to keep away from it. Instead I just have white wine (still).

Congrats on booking your operation.

Hi Libbi, I've lost 7kg on opti for 2 weeks. Going in for operation on Friday, but as Thursday is my wedding anniversary, I'm going out to a restaurant for dinner and am going to have whatever takes my fancy :)))

Scrambled eggs are in the 'mushy' stage, Ronnie, which you're close to, they'll slide down so easily.

Ridgebak, welcome, and good work! How much weight have you lost on Opti? Sounds a lot! Good luck for your operation.

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Just the shoulder pain from the gas, Ronnie, and a feeling of exhaustion which I think can be the effects of the anaesthetic. I was just so excited to have undergone the operation, I was on a bit of a high, and I like the attention of being in hospital (I'm a bit twisted that way, just as well I've never been ill in hospital!). If I did have a bit of other pain it's left my mind pretty quickly. The keyhole wounds were painless.
You do need to allow yourself to rest, no matter how you feel.
Have a great recovery.
