Hi all,
I can't eat any bread products at all, including wraps.
I can however eat a piece of cold pizza! I can't just eat it room temp when it has cooled down, it has to be day old and really hard!

Sorry, Bruce, about the pizza reference. I'm just jealous. With less fill I'm really craving a chicken tandoori pizza. The sooner I have a top up the better- what damage I might do in the three weeks till then. Please, everyone, keep me on the straight and narrow! And, Bruce, at last you're on the way, with your first fill.

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi Libbi.

4ml went in today. They tried me out on water, and then a 100ml tub of yoghurt. For about 5 minutes after that I sort of felt like I needed to burp. But that settled down and they sent me off. During the walk back to my car (7-8 mins because I like to park a long way away to bump up the incidental exercise) I felt discomfort in the right side of my abdomen that was just short of what I would call painful. That settled down shortly after. Since then I have had dinner of soup, icecream (skinny cow), and lots of water, with no problems.

I hope pizza boy doesn't stick as an appellation as it sounds like a bad case of acne :-)

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Amanda, thank you for asking. I was going to check in because others may encounter overfill problems at some stage. My extra fill of .2 to make 8mls was in December, yet it's only in the past few weeks that I haven't felt quite right, with increasing blockages. Obviously the blockage accumulates and can cause more trouble if it's ignored. Last week it accelerated to the extent that I could hardly keep a glass of water down! Not a major inconvenience and great for weight loss, but risky the doctor says.

Anyhow, he removed one ml, taking me back to over two fills ago (panic, panic). The change is immediate, no reflux or night cough. I've started 'grazing' a bit. The doctor will see me in three weeks to start topping up again for more restriction if necessary. I think around 7.8 was my optimum comfortable restriction.

So good about your lift, Amanda. Some 12 years after the event and massive weight gain and loss, I'm still 'up in the air' - amazing surgery.

Pizza boy Bruce, tell us how much fill your doctor has given you today, if we may ask.

Libbi
Ps thanks to the overfill, I've reached 'normal' weight (for a few brief days)- the thinner I get the fatter I feel, we're never happy!

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi Bell,
Thank you for your kind words re: boobs (that sounds weird! LOL). It's strange, coz I've always been kinda unsatisfies with my boobs... too small (most of my life), too big (short time, when fat fat FAT and lactating madly), too droopy (when not so fat and definately not lactating), so it is weird and uplifting (pardon the pun) having someone daydream about the size of them. And yet, I AM happy with them, so the proceedure had definately been worth it. I have spent (literally - of dear) hundreds of dollars on new bras and they are GREAT!!! It is so nice to put on a nice bra and it fits right, and then when you take it off - your boobs stay in place!!!!!!! What is your size, if you don't mind me asking... do you want bigger or smaller? We are rarely happy with what we've got. Sad but true. (sorry for all the girly talk, Bruce!)
Cheers,
Amanda

Libbi,

the pizza was good! It was just one from the freezer in a box with the tick from the heart foundation. I think that probably identifies it, as I think I only found the one type in the supermarket. The wine was good too - 2002 Osicka Shiraz. Today I had a bento box for lunch, just to really test the limits. No problems at all. Now I am back on the straight & narrow until first fill on Tuesday.

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Bruce, that's exactly what I did - had half an Optifast bar twice a day (and still do when I can). I found I was searching for something mid-morning, and it is a protein bar so can't be all bad. Depending on how your doctor manages the fills, you still may have some opportunities to eat! Mine did a little bit several times; Amanda, I think from memory just had two big lots.

Tell us how you go with the pizza: I haven't dared yet because of the floury texture (had a disaster with a croissant in the early stages). I have never, ever, given up the glass of wine at night (which may account for my slower than others weight loss).

Bell, your very own Borat - lucky you!

Hi Bruce,

I'll just poke myself into your conversation with Libbi :)

I often have 1/2 an optibar for morning or afternoon tea too. It surprises me how filling they are. And they really keep that edge off till meal time.

That pizza sounds tempting...but you can have the wine, LOL

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi Libbi.

I'm hanging out for first fill next Tuesday. At the moment I'm torn between a desire to exploit my last few days of opportunity and a reluctance to undo the good done so far. I have only dropped about 2kg more since my banding on the 24th of last month. At the moment it would be very easy to put some back on. I have found that half an Optifast bar for morning tea, and the other half for afternoon tea, helps to limit the cravings that build toward lunch and dinner otherwise. I'm going away for the weekend, so I'll make a point of only taking what I should to eat. So tonight I might indulge myself a bit (one low fat pizza and some wine).

oh, Libb..i managed to score a totally suitable short suede jacket complete with fringe off ebay...woohoo! LOL!
I'm sure i'll be able to scoop up a pair of jeans and boots from an op shop or somewhere. I'll go 'easy rider' style. Son is going..whats that bloke from The Doors name? Anyway, leather and long hair. His girlfriend is going Simply Irristable, all size 10 of her and Daughter is going Madonna. Not sure about husband yet. he might have to go as a fat dude, LOL! Or, let me think...he's got a Chopper mustash so he could look into that look. Its a shame Borat is 2006 cause thats EXACTLY what he looks like, thankfully minus the green mankini and plus 20kg....roflmao....ahhhhh tears.....

Hi frostee,

Glad the boobs are setteling in. Ahhh 14C how good is that. *daydreaming* :)

Libbi,

I caught bits of it, husband's a TV hog so i gave up trying to watch years ago!...why do they put on a show they want then turn the volume down and talk over the top of it? Or put on something they want to watch then go away? I saw the young man talking about how much Jenny Craig was v's how much some kind of WLS was, it was turned down at the beginning of what he said, so i missed that bit, but I'm assuming it was a Band since thats the most common. Then it got turned back down so i missed the rest, LOL!

I have a theory that the manufacturers of Gastric Bands have their little fingers in the amount of publicity Banding gets. Not that thats a bad thing by any means. They just keep bumping it along, making...what are they now? 2,500- 3,500 bucks a throw. So if they keep it in front of people they make more bonzi-buckeroos! Wish i'd invented it, LOL!

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi gang

Did anyone see SBS' Insight last night? It was on obesity and showed the band operation in large screen living colour (it's very crowded in there....). Very interesting (if I hadn't been serving the dinner at the time); it's a panel programme with interviews, the gastric operation parts were at the beginning and end. It's repeated at 1.30pm Fri and 3.30 Mon if anyone wants to watch or record it. The operation still seems to be a novelty in the news, so aren't we clever being at the forefront of fashion?!

Amanda, thank you for those kind words re fill, have made the appointment. Sorry to learn that you've had a painful time with your lift, but glad it's calmed down and that you're bouncing around happily now....

Bell, I know you were only half serious, but if I had any suitable stuff I'd send it. There's nothing party-like at all, though, just a miserable blouse or two. Those size 12s might just fit!

Bruce, you must be well on the way now, tell us the vital statistics to encourage us all, and Bec and friends, too (especially with all those weddings).

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi Libbi, Bell & all,
Yes Bell, I'm getting used to the new boobs. Got fitted at Myer yesterday, and bought 2 nice shaped bras in size 14C (I used to have the same bra in a 14D, but admittedly it was kinda gaping right before the surgery). I felt much better looking at my shape in a bra, and now the dressings have come off, am getting used to the new boobs. Had terrable pain for a while, thought it was an infection but no signs of it except pain. Was told it was the nerves that had been tampered with, and to try nurefin & tighter sports bra. This worked thankfully, and I am now pretty pain free. Hooray!
Libbi, reflux is no joy, and I think that if it continues long term I'd re-consider letting a little fill go. You have to have a happy quality of life. It;s hard.
\Good luck all,
Amanda

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi Libbi,

Big shoulder pads hey!! What size you got there? 14 or 16?
Can i have a borrow, LOL! I'm going nuts trying to come up with a 70's or early 80's outfit for a do we're going to. I have 2 brand new dresses from that period but they are still too small at a bloody tiny 12, and all my other stuff (think Madonna, Boy George and Cindy Lauper inpired 'fashion' lol!) I've tossed out. I might have to resort to draging out my pattern box and making something...like i don't have enough else to do between now and when we leave!

I'm going to sort through my 18's and bigger and offer them on the gastric sleeve support site, they have the option to put up pictures there. Otherwise, i might have to put them on ebay. But 16's and smaller i think i'll keep the best of's. Its not to hard to picture them fitting again at the moment.

Hi Frostee,

Those mini easter eggs are the worst aren't they! I have refused to buy any. I know i will eat the buggers so i haven't bought a single one. I'll even leave off buying the family's eggs till just before we leave. Or maybe i'll get them a gift instead of eggs this year, hmmm.. might think about that.

How is your recovery coming along anyway, are you used to them yet? Its a bit annoying having to wait to go back to curves. I'm busting to get on my Wobbler, I won't even let them put it together for me cause i know i will be on it like a shot shaking my tummy to bits LOL! Next monday is FINALLY 6 weeks...

I know what you mean about that 'danger period'. I have always been able to lose weight for an event or to get to goal, but once the thing has passed back on it piles. I'm worried about this Easter thing. I have been so good, i just hope i can keep it up after its over. Although my birthady is coming up in June, maybe this year will finally be the year i am at goal weight. That could give me my next thing to aim at.

Oh, Amanda, your reports are so useful. I woke up after a night of coughing and reflux, the signs of overfill, and planned to make an appointment this morning for removing some fill, then I read your posts again and changed my mind! I live in fear of putting it all on again, and I remember Gabs told us she put on a few kilos too.

As for throwing out fat clothes: Bell, you are so org an ised, having blanket boxes and the like: I have 'blanket' wardrobes! I'm fast running out of room. Three sizes of clothes are getting too hard to accommodate. I had kept from two decades ago good 'thin' clothes that I couldnt bear to part with. Some are now wearable, smart cardigans and the like, but with others, even when I take the shoulder pads out (that dates them), the cut is still wrong for today. !?*&%# fashion.

PS, My surgeon showed me some stats re, people's weight patterns on the band. It showed people getting to their lowest weight, then increasing slightly and platuing off. Thus, when I expresses concern about putting on weight and wanting more fill, he was like 'this is normal, wait and see'. I have an appointment in 2 months.

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Poor food choices my dear.... ie, mini chocholate easter eggs, ice cream (which I never used to like), on a too frequent basis. Also, have not been allowed to exercise post op (nearly 4 weeks now), and I think that the regular exercies (nothing extreme, just Curves 3 x week) was really making a difference. I think I am at that "danger period" that we have all been at so many times before: when you finally reach "goal" on some big diet plan, it is easy to relax and slack off completely, going back to old habbits. I need to keep on the game, and not lose it completely. Even with a band it is totally possible to put on weight if you choose badly. I am hoping that once I get back to exercising my motivation to eat better will go up too. I just looooooove easter egg chocholate! Bad Amanda!
Cheers!!

Nope, ITS still there, Its just saggy now, LMAO!!

Libbi, throwing out the fat clothes is a step i just can't bring my self to make yet. I have the worst 'what-ifs'. Consequentially (sp) the blanket box is so full the lid won't close properly. I'm trying so hard not to buy anything new. I hope its the last weight loss time ever too.

Thank you, Amanda, for that detailed account of life at 8mls. I was going to see the doctor about having .2 removed (which would really be giving in), but I feel a bit more normal now with my occasional blockages. You can feel really seedy, can't you, but when it goes you feel on top of the world. My doctor says 8mls is close to the limit, but you may have a differnt-sized band if you still feel hungry, and can eat so much. Yet you're still losing.

Even though we've all lost and then put on, let's tell ourselves 'It's NOT inevitable' this time!! If it is, then once again I've wasted stacks of money on new clothes - I tell my complaining husband I can't go around naked ... This has to be the last weight loss programme we ever go on (please, please).

Hi Tanya
You really must have to be careful getting all your vitamins, but it sounds as though banding will suit you - we eat so little. As for mushies - blended potato, corn and capsicum sounds good to me (like a thick, creamy vegetable soup), plus seafood or chicken if you can have it, and some spices for flavouring. You'll be ok!

eeeep!

flaunt my IT...not to sure about that LOL!

On the back of this conversation i decided to go through the box of smaller sizes and the wardrobe full of bigger sizes. As a result, the box is now OVERFLOWING with bigger sizes, i've got a big bag to cut up for rags and i have 2 loads of smaller sizes to wash and a small stack of too small yet in the bottom of the wardrobe. Cool hey! Oh, and i uncovered 3 button up shirts which will look ok with a belt :)

But i'm still gunna chuck a whinge. The smaller clothes are all wrong season. Either full on summer or dead of winter, you know 6am, -5 and can't see the next white line on the road for the fog...love those mornings...*daydream*...
