Oh Bell, sorry to hear about all those electrical dramas, hope the tv was ok. Thank you for all that extra feedback, it sounds as though the weight might move even more quickly with the sleeve.

Hi Libbi,

Sorry once again for the slow reply. Our house (in NW sydney) got hit by lightening last friday night and talk about fried electronics! Among other things we could only rig up internet either in the office or in the house, and since the office is more important i have only had very limited access to it for a few days now. We were lucky though. It didn't damage all the ordinary electric household appliances. Just the phone system and the computer stuff (printers network cables etc) Its almost fixed now. Bloody nuscience.

The doctor was happy to let me go wich ever way i wanted. I'd already seen him about the Band and he had approved me for it, after i found out about the Sleeve (months later) i went back to ask about it instead. His preferance is to do the band first because its the least invasive, then move onto more complicated measures (sleeve then bypass)so he was being as bit 'ooh happy happy happy band' v's 'mmm sleeeve, yes well'. But i had pretty much made my mind up so he was cool. He just made sure i fully understood the surgical risks involved in both and that the sleeve is a more risky op and basically said let me know what you decide.

Thank you, Bell. It is indeed a good website, and well explained. So many choices, but I suppose the doctor made the final decision for you, not to go with the band?

Good luck for D.day!

Hi Libbi,

Might as well research, i had to wait 3 years! Gave me something to do apart from pile on more weight! And...yep i'm fat cause i'm the laziest person on 2 legs too, lol!

Here is a good diagram on the Sleeve if you want a quick squiz. Its not the place i'm going to, but their website is heaps better.

Don't forget to take out any spaces yahoo may put in :)

Hi Amanda,

Sorry i didn't get back to you the other day. I'll have a look at the site you suggested. I don't think i'll look at the video one, it'd gross me out! One of the ones i was looking at the other day had a 3D diagram which was about my limit of squeemishness. chuckle!

Gabs

Thank you for that information regarding Myoplex, I know how you feel about Optifast! The Optifast bars are delicious to me (well. berry and capuccino)- but cinnamon crunch sounds irresistible! I tell myself that if I'm eating so little a protein bar for extra sustenance can't hurt.

Bell, you are really researching ahead. I shall have to look up gastric sleeve to see the difference. I wouldn't worry too much about having a different diet food: I found the Optifast soups impossible to work with, life's too short to be cleaning electric blenders all the time, especially for a miserable cup of soup (that's why I'm fat - I'm just lazy!)

Amanda - good to hear you got a second opinion re breast lift - go for it! I suppose you young things out here don't need to enquire about face lifts yet, the way I do? The going rate in my area is $16,000....

Hi again,

Just wanted to day that you can exchange opti for myoplex lite. It has almost the same makeup but to me is a lot more palaatable.

It comes in packet form and poppa (made up) shakes for those of us on the move as well as yummy bars (I like the cinnamon crunch best). You can get it at all good health food stores.

To me the vanilla flavour is the best.

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
Hi everyone,

I'm back after a week away for work and then no access for the weekend. Don't know why.

Libbi,

I am determined to be better than average in all things!! Only kidding but I would be happy to lose more than my surgeon thought I would.

His goal for me was 70kgs but mine is between 60 and 65. Got to get to 65 first and then I'll see how the last 5 go.

I don't think for me that 65 will be any harder to achieve than 70.

I am finding it hard to break 77 at the moment but then I am eating like a pig, shoveling food in like there's no tomorrow. As I sit here typing this my whole stomach hurts as all I have done all day is eat.

I am thinking that I amy need some counseling to get over this hump.

Hope everyone is well. I will keep reading the posts.

Hi Bell,
The surgeon is Mr Tim Pitt, Melbourne Vic. I tried to look at your websites, however my computer doesn't allow the photos to come up.. so annoying. I first looked at a website that has lots of before/afters: "smartplasticsurgery.com"
My surgeon also recommended an Australian site: "plasticsurgery.org.au" That one has an animated video of the proceedure which was quite gross but enlightening.
I think I will end up a C. Am now a flat D.
Cheers,
Amanda

I keep meaning to google up some pictures of breast lift, but sifting through the porn makes me roll my eyes and drop backward off the chair LOL! Should get the hubby to do it, LARFLARFLARF!!! He seems to have infinite patience with that task, LMAO

And i forget to get the opti bars *smack myself in the head*. So the berry ones are good hey Sarah? Are they like musile...how do you spell musley, lol. I'll get them NEXT time i go, i'll put a postit note on my forhead so i don't forget :P

Re:low BMI banding 30-35 Reply to this message
For any of those interested in the boob lift topic of a week ago, I went to another plastic surgeon this week for an opinion on having a boob lift post breastfeeding/weight loss and he was totally of the opinion that a lift would be enough and no need for implants as well. I liked him heaps better (older, less 'Hollywood') and have decided to go ahead. It will cost less than $4000 out of pocket, so quite do-able. Exciting. He said that scarring on boobs is much less than on the mid-line (where our banding scars are). He is booked for months so have to wait till at least Feb next year. Hopefully I will be at goal then. Still, Exciting.
Cheers,
Amanda

Have a good Friday everyone..Lulu

Hi Amanda

Here i go being a doom and gloom merchant again, lol!

I don't like coffee, so the cappichino one is out. There is only berry, choc and capp isn't there? I'd rather not have the chocolate one. I find if i don't have any thing chocolate then i don't care about it, but if i started having a choc flavoured bar i'd be on the downward slope to a bar of chocolate! And i don't know anything about the berry ones so i'll keep my mouth shut regarding them.

I'm probably just borrowing trouble. I'm sure i've seen them available as seperates in the chemist. I'm going down to Rouse Hill in a while to pick up a Wii console, so i'll grab a couple to try.

SIGH...I wonder if they would let me do celebrity slim...now their shakes are the yummist of the yum!

Bell, have you tried the optifast bars? Are they covered too? (they are more expensive than the shakes). But sooooooo much nicer and more filling! I never felt full on a shake, but a bar really felt like a substantial 'meal'. Crazy.

Hi Libbi,

Drinking your food is definatley unappealing, no matter what it tastes like, lol!

I'm a soon-to-be, feb if all goes well. I'm also being sleeved rather than banded, but hey...we're all on the same road!

Where i am going, they actually sell the opti there..talk about a one stop shop, lol, so they are reluctant to let anyone ues anything other than the opti, cuts into their profits i guess! But if you can't swallow it, you can't swallow it, it seems to activate my gag reflex. I try to swallow it, my throat closes up, my eyes water and it sprays back out of my mouth (and nose and sometimes my tear ducts - how disgusting is that, LOL). Its truely spectacular, hahaha!! They must have another option for those of us who are big baby sookie lala's!

When i go down to pay, (they have a pre pay discount). I'll ask them about it then. I'm just getting infoed up at the moment.

Hello Bell

TF, and Optifast, both seem like hard work compared with having fills! I thought our days of diet food would be over once we were banded.... I do, however, keep the delicious cappucino bars on hand for a chocolate fix, or for instant protein after a fill when I can't swallow anything else (how quickly that wears off).

I won't search back for your story just now - when were you banded?

hi everyone!

I haven't been around for almost a week, just having a bit of a catch up.

Its great to see everyone seems to be chugging along nicely.

Just curious Libbi, why do you say TF seems like harder work? I am hoping to go on the TF instead of the Opti. I find the TF much more palatable. Opti seems to come out my nose! Most unplesant..LOL!

Nice to hear from you on your hols, and so early in the day! I've checked back to see where you're up to: do I read 20 ks off in 18 months, and 30 to go??! When you're not on holidays I'd love to hear how you're going with the fills - Tony Ferguson sounds like harder work.

Hi All,
Thanks for you info and advice... I met with my dietician today and said I wasnt required to go on Optifast. Apparently it is something to do with the liver - reduces the size for ease of operating?? Anyway, I am thinking I might give it a go anyway to kick start my weight loss - surely it wont hurt!
The dietician appointment was very positive - I'm back in the 'excited' stage again - which is good!
