For those who find six meals a day isn't convenient talk to your surgeon or dietitian. Once you are over the six weeks healing period there is no reason why you can't have 3 meals per day, having 3 larger meals or 6 smaller meals (snacks) doesn't make any difference my surgeon and dietitian both told me. You need to figure out what suits you personally, i.e. your band, your stomach (hunger pangs or not), the type of work you do and your lifestyle.
I did six small meals (snacks)per day for a month but found I was becoming more obsessed with food because I was watching the clo ck to make sure I spaced those meals out throughout the day fairly evenly. Watching the clo ck stressed me out because I felt like I was constantly counting time to my next meal. Once I switched to three meals a day I never clo ck watched again and I just have my 3 meals when I feel like it not when the clo ck tells me too. 4 years after banding I'm still eating three meals a day and breakfast is always a shake.
Having said that though I'm one of the lucky one who don't feel hungry since banding so it could be easier for me to cope with 3 meals. When I was wheeled into surgery my tummy was rumbling with hunger when I was wheeled out I was no longer hungry. Although I said I don't get hungry the truth is I have felt hunger pangs four times in four years but they only lasted ten minutes maximum and went away without even eating.
I hope that helps anyone that is struggling with six meals as I was but remember don't follow what my surgeon and dietitian told me without discussing it with your surgeon and/or dietitian.

Thank you Doreen
All you say is so positive and great to hear.
You will not believe this but a girl contacted me that I used to know about 7 years ago. She saw my name on this site and after a few posts thought it had to be me. I have just been on the phone to her and she was banded last October.
I could not believe it after all this time.
This is the right thing to do for me.

Delia ,
remember many bigger people act happy ,
I did ,but I was tired and felt a failure ,
and was so unhealthy
I could not walk 1 block and was also on antidepressants after a accident (fall)
I felt a failure cause I could not lose weight and get rid of back pain,
your nephew is correct,
(I have met you,)
you are a beautiful lady ,he is right ,
I hardly exercise these days
just eat well and do more cleaning etc and shopping,
so do not think you need to be a gym junkie
a walk at the shopping centre or some good vacuming scrubbing etc and gardening can help heaps
that said when first banded
I did a hour every other day on tread mill etc but it now gathers dust lol ,
I have a life and ,I am out and about so get exercise without it,lol,
stay safe and so glad you have a date,Doreen |

HI Debra and Doreen
Your posts are so reassuring. Like Cat I wake up at night with the thought ARE YOU DOING THE RIGHT THING. Then I remember the Christmas gatherings yesterday and the bigger people dinner all so happy and wonder again think again am I doing the right think. They are all so happy. Then I remember my family gathering (lunch ) where I am the biggest and I know I am doing the right thing. No one puts me down even my nephew said I’ve seen pictures of you when you were younger and you still are beautiful. Made my day . (but I did wonder if he was referring to the weight). I am happy enough with them but it would be nice to be like them. Saying that I don't what to become a gym junky like my one sister.
Yours posts are so reassuring and I KNOW I AM DOING THE RIGHT THING on the 2nd Feb.
Have a great week.

Everytime I see someone who is significantly overweight, I want to go up to them and tell them about lapband. I'm almost 5 weeks post banded and have only lost 10 kgs so far but I feel so good and positive about my weight loss and the future ahead. This time it's for good!! I want to tell them it is so good. Those first few weeks of discomfort are forgotten when you see the weight just disappear.
I bought some new shorts (size 16) and and a singlet top (size 14...it's a bit small & tight around boobs but can't wait for it to be loose)Wow what a great feeling: time to throw away those size 18 and 20s.
I was worried i didn't have a before photo: My brother today gave me a photo taken at his wedding on 1st November: before I started my pre op diet. Even I can see the difference.
Cat, you are saving your life: think of all health issues that will go away, the medication you will no longer need. Yes there are risks, complications are possible. But it's worth it. The chance to improve the quality of the REST of your life is here.
I see people every day with diabetes, high BP, cholesterol, arthritis etc and the effects on their quality of life. You want to be around to see your kids grow up and to enjoy your grandchildren.

Doreen,
It's nice to hear reassuring words. I keep waking up in the middle of the night wondering if I am sure. Its funny how I forget just how overweight I am. I am fit so I feel pretty okay. I just have to see the label on my jeans or look in the mirror to remember that I need to take this seriously. And I do have commorbidities that aren't overt, so I need to remember them.
Anyway. Thanks again.
All the best,
Cat |

Nice to see there are few other oldies here who know who John taylor is. I wanted to go the V festival earlier this year because they were playing there and they weren't doing any other concerts in Brisbane. But I thought it better to remember them in their prime.
Hope everyone had a great day. I think Xmas day was everyone's food challenge day. I just chose the food that I knew would go down OK, and chewed away. I made the icecream cake from the front cover of Family Circle and was able to eat it no problems.
The sad part is I haven't seen my family for 6-7 weeks. I had my op 5 weeks ago. they don't know I had it done. No one in my family commented or noticed that I had lost 10kgs since I had last seen them!!!
Can't choose your family!!

i'm one of those sad people who enjoys wrapping presents. So next year I'll come round and help you out. I don't have as many to wrap as you , I'd say. But I have a 7 year old daughter who had been bugging me all day to wrap the bloody things but then she got bored halfway through!! I love when she cuts sticky tape and somehow can't help but put her fingers all over it! So by the time I get that piece of tape it's not very sticky anymore!. You forget the fine motor skills involved in something we adults think is so simple. Still have to track down an elusive Lego set for my son. Buy some vouchers for brother and sister. Only 3 more sleeps.
Then I 'm going to try eating prawns for the first time post band!!!
Merry Christmas. Will have to hit boxing day sales for new clothes : my pants are falling down!!!

I trawled thru some old photos last night. Happily or sadly there weren't too many photos of me. Lots of the kids. I was trying to find a "before" shot because i didn't think to take one before surgery. Funny how I managed to avoid being infront of the camera and would rather be behind it!!
But I did find a photo of me from years ago after i had been on Jenny Craig. i had got down to 75kg then. So I have stuck that photo inside my wardrobe so i see it every day to give me incentive...I can look and feel like that again. Might have to stick it inside the pantry or on the fridge. |

hi doretheyr,
Double figures ,woo hooo ,you go gal, well done
lol, yes my thread is about ,sometimes it just hides,in other words , this thread does appear but it like all the others ,sometimes, just disappeares (we call it into the black hole lol) when not used sometimes it is between the pages for a few hrs
best way is ,as you say to bookmark favourites ,
it is hard to get that sweetspot ,sometimes you think it is there ,then 2 weeks later need tiny bit more or the opposite need a drop out ,hormones play a role in restriction for me so I need to keep that drop out ,so I do not get too restricted the week prior to my periods
as for the band around the head that kind of comes after our repeated attempts of weight loss ,and slowly ,I am now just starting to think ,I may fit in that nice small dress ,
till very recently ,I always walked straight to the
(18to 26 )stands,
not having junk food in the house helps ,if I craved I got a single freddo at the garage and always had it on a full stomach for dessert ,often after eating ,I found I just ate half so the other half was left over for next day stay happpy and healthy ,talk soon ,Doreen |
