I like reading all these posts as I realise i'm not the only one going through this. Everyone here is going such a great job and are great inspirations!
I had lost almost 20kg's after surgery (liquid-mushy stage) and I had my first 2 fills afterwards and they did nothing for me!
I was eating large meals still and eating anything, it would go down fine. I kept telling my dr lady that I was fine and still eating a lot and not loosing weight and it wasn't until the last time (week and a half ago) I got my first 'real' fill.
I've been a lot more restricted now with my food, can only eat small meals now and have thrown up a few times as I was rushing my food/not chewing properly.
So i've just kept being honest with them and telling them if i've been bad eating, especially with chocolate. They are cool about it and understanding and don't lecture me. Just encourage me to keep going.
I promised myself after surgery, I would be honest with myself, as no one else cares if you're lying, it doesn't affect them, only me (with food). I have found it's helping me be true to myself.
I still haven't lost more weight yet as for the past month, I had been eating poorly and not exercising. (something I was hoping I wouldn't do!)
But I found my motivation again and i'm keen to continue being healthy and with my exercise again. :) It's been exactly 3months after surgery now and only the 18kg loss. I wish it was more!! |

That's good to know you don't have any fill instead of wondering have I - haven't I.

However, when my second band was put in, my stomach was sooo swollen from the band having slipped that he didn't put any fill in. Because my body heals quickly, i found that i was starving a week after my surgery...
I'd be calling my surgeon's office to confirm. They should be able to give you all the details you need any your surgery. Keep us posted on how you go ok?
Good luck!

Give your surgeon's staff a call and ask them was any fluid put in, that's what you have paid for to ring and get help. My surgeon doesn't put any fill in and won't until six weeks after banding so if you have fill you are a very lucky lady. Having said that though it is rare but I know a couple of people who have never had to have a fill because their food intake was restricted enough without adding fill.

Hi Margiee
I know that when i first had the band put in, my surgeon, Ian Martin, put in 4mls to give me a head start. You might just find that the swelling is taking it's time to go down... but yes, generally the surgeons will put some fluid in the band when they put it in...
I hope that helps!

Life (& Alcohol!) after Gastric Band
many of us have a few drinks
may be not what we did preband or
maybe not the same things
but yes alchohol is possible /but it may affect you sooner and make you lightheaded with less, sometimes wine seems to affect more now ,
well, more than pre band and I also water/ice down mixers and I have gone to diet coke as a mixer
,out for a meals
meals have changed considerably and steak out is hard now mainly it is prawns or seafood chowder ,
steak has been replaced by my takeout mongolian steak ,a tub can do 3 meals ,I don't eat the onion,
prawns make up a lot of my diet and I eat these almost daily ,and, also out to tea ,as garlic prawns ,also have seafood chowder out for tea ,
I find chinese but not battered chinese goes down fine for a outing ,
most meals require lots of cutting and heaps of chewing once restricted
but
liquid cals go down a treat with alchohol
avoid the nuts and chips , I am 45, when banded on 1/10/07 I was,
110kg size 22/24 ,
I am only a 157cm shorty now 66kg ,
mostly wearing 8's,
so guess it slows down heaps from now on,
good luck with banded life and remember it is a life and you have to enjoy yourself or it becomes a bore ,
eat
drink
and live
just limit your calories and change to Quality not quantity ,Doreen |

Exercise
I like
to do along the journey
mainly move more than I used to ,now exercise walking around shops, lol, love looking /trying on clothes, was doing treadmill a couple times week earlier but have not lately had a bit of a lazy month with family issues ,(this last 5kg will take a while the way I am exercising)lol,
also bought , a recumberant bike (highly recomend it ),was using it as back was aching , found it easy ,stress free exercise, quiet relaxing ,
have had 2 very young grandkids babysitting ,
5 days a week lately so have not exercised much,
this month, worn out ,hope to get back to bike next week even if it is only a 20mins session 2/3 x week was useing it every week at least 3x a week may use treadmill again spasmodically but prefer recumberant bike also weights for arms,Doreen |

Weight loss, can be so hard without good support ,
I like to offer support as that is what assisted me
I and many others ,
have eased off the main thread at present it is just too catty
I have no interest /need to be involved with it ,my only interest here has ever been getting /giving support only
so I am here to get and give support
(not get abused)
if any one wants my help and is not willing to ask here for fear of being seen as a supporter of me
,please contact me at my email on my profile and below
all the best for your journeys ,
may they be as successful as mine has been
I fully believe ,without this band ,
and positive thinking etc
by now I would be much heavier and even more unhealthy than before
have a great day ,Doreen

Towards the end of your last message you said "I loose interest". It's "lose" not "loose". I lose interest. Loose is loose as in loose dress. |

Finally after months ,have worked out why you hate me
just worked out that
you think
I took over YOUR GROUP , so I have finally worked out why some one
I have never spoke to or met could hate me so much ,
next time tell a person straight out
when I was at meetings I never heard of or met you at all
so when meetups ended
when everyone asked when meetups were happening I said I do not know ,but eventually arranged one just to find out what people wanted ,but you never came ,and they asked me to arrange a regular thing ,so sorry ,
BUT not once did ANYONE say anywhere that you owned /ran the group ,lol,
AS I am not a mind reader and usually just skip your posts as they usually ramble on and,(I am buzy)
I loose interest and usually miss the point among the ramblings ,
simple words work best ,not abuse here or by email,Doreen

re
I intend to take revenge. Next year I will recommence co-ordinating Brisbane Get-togethers on a monthly basis at the Milton Coffee Club which is the venue that Sue and I selected after spending two full days scouring Brisbane for a suitable venue to suit the various needs of Brisbane people considering Lap Banding or the Sleeve Gastrectomy.
Bradleynoo kindly took over from me and co-ordinated these get-togethers when I was disabled for a long period of time but now I'm well, you know what Arnie says "I'm BACK!!!!"
I can't stop you from co-ordinating get-togethers on the same day or even at the same venue but just bear in mind that you won't be the only one co-ordinating Brisbanders, get-togethers. I'll be doing them on a monthly basis for weekend and midweek because the numbers are growing so big, by having monthly get-togethers I'm attempting to make the get-togethers smaller to ensure everyone gets the attention and questions answered that they need and won't
won't get overlooked or feel intimidated attending a large group.

Doreen
This post is probably the corker of all my "multiple posts" that you love so much. I have much more to say in response to some of the things I have read but I have already spent far too much time on this computer. This will be continued tonight and even Monday if need be, interesting that the Volcano I told Mel that was waiting to spew forth has started to erupt and it's not even in relation to Mel.
I'm so sorry I imposed on you all especially to those who think the same as Doreen and believe I "seem like you feel you have ,not, had enough sympathy".
Oh and Doreen there is absolutely no need for you to come back here again considering you said you are leaving. You have hurt me and pushed me to the limit of extreme anxiety nd now I intend to take revenge.

Usually in times of someone passing, a partner or family member will ring around and let others know of the passing as it is usually too emotional for the person who has lost someone advise their friends of their loss. My family had all lost my mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunty so I had no intention of asking anyone to ring or email my friends on my behalf to advise them of my mother's passing because their grief was equally as painful as mine.
My plan was to let people know in about a month's time when I wasn't so emotional and it would be too late then for my friends to be sending me cards and flowers. There are even three people on this board who I haven't even told who I know I should have told. Whether they know now or not of my mother's passing I don't know because two in particular usually stick to their local area threads. Although I do have my suspicions that one of the people I know could be Gillin but I don't know for sure and was going to email this person next week when I was in a calmer frame of mind to ask if it was her but I'd be surprised that even if it is her she probably wouldn't admit it because let's face it, she doesn't have any guarantee that I wouldn't say on this board who she actually is and she could be afraid I would expose her but I would never do that, as I said I believe she is an angel that my Mum sent.
As corny as this is going to sound, in recognition of Gillin I even laid on top of my mother's body a jewellery guardian angel as an acknowledgement I had received Mum's angel, although I know my Mum didn't need any guardian angel jewellery because she's now surrounded by heavenly angels. I feel so exposed and emotionally fragile after saying these things but if it wasn't for your aggressive and nasty posts I wouldn't have had the need to expose my vulnerability as much as I have.
