Congratulations, Nicole. Why not join the November 09 banders thread. There will be others there going through the same situation.
Here's the link:

| Lindy your diet may be deficient in some of the elements that are needed for good health. Are you taking your multivitamin every day? |

| Hi There, I was in New York a couple of weeks ago and was surprised to see Lap Band Surgery being advertised on television. It seems it could start to be used more widely over there than Gastric ByPass. Just thought I would share this trival information. Have a great evening. |

HELP. I have been banded for 7 months, lost 25kgs, all going well. But what l am finding is my sleep pattern is all over the place, l seem to wake up 2am every night, and cannot get back to sleep. Anyone else had trouble with insomnia.
Normal l would sleep like a top. |

Dear mels.mania
Thanks for the link to the article. Strange that he didn't mention that complication rates are so much higher with gastric bypass. I knew that gastridc bypass was most popular in the US, but I did not know about Europe.
Personally, I prefer to have sometime that has been around a long time - when techniques are new, there are often complications that don't become apparent for a while. Also, decided long ago, after a bad surgical experience, that I would never have anything done to my body that was not reasonably easily reversable. |

Kerri wonderful student midwife take heart all is not lost because of the nightshift. We need to be replaced as it is tiring but enjoyable work. Hopefully caseload will change the stupidity the way we work now.
Night shift I manage by trying to get my very small meals pre-planned and ready to pull out of freezer or salmon with salad, aoili. I take a variety of snack food including Aldi small piece of dark chocolate/fruit/mixed dry nuts/boiled eggs. The reason for that is sometimes I am pretty stressed and/or rushed. No matter how hungry I may feel if those two are present I know I will spend too much time bringing it back up at the worse times. Don't want you to miss any births doing that. The chocolate, fruit, soy chocolate milk provides me with liquid pick ups so I don't reach that desparate hunger stage. On nights I never try and catch up any missed meals but I do try to ensure I keep protein intake up as this reduces hunger and promotes weight loss.Hope this helps Barb |

Our first get together on the Sunshine Coast
Hi Lapbanders
email me if you can attend delia4au@yahoo.com.au
We are a very special group of people.
I have a date and time for our first get together on the Sunshine Coast.
The Bromeliad Cafe at Glenview. It is central for people from the coast and the hinterland as well as north Gympie.
The cafe is new and very nice with great food and coffee.
The date is this Friday the 6thNov at 9.30am.
I have attended some in Brisbane and found them to be very beneficial if a banded person or just thinking about it. Ask anyone you know that is banded or thinking if they would like to come along.
Nothing organized just a group of people getting together for information and support.
It would be a good idea if you could wear a name badge.
Can you let me know if you are attending?
Looking forward to meeting up
Delia
Directions
If coming from Nambour / Sippy Downs / Sunshine Motor Way
Turn Left at the Palmview exit (across from the Ettamogah Pub Pignata Road)
Turn right as if going to the Pub then turn left on to Frizzo Road
Right turn onto Glenview Road.
You will notice the Saddlery on the left and the Bromelaid Cafe is in the conference centre next to it.
If coming from Brisbane take the Glenview road exit as if going to the Pub.
Then first left into Glenview Road.
From Beerwah take the Glenview Road exit as if going to the Pub.
Then first left into Glenview Road.
You will notice the Saddlery on the left and the Cafe is in the conference centre next to it. |

| Hi all. For those of you who like the Opti bars, I just picked some of the cappucino ones up at Chemist Warehouse for 9.99 a box--less than half price. Someone said they ordered some online at that price as well. |

| Thanks for your reply Mack. I have been around this size now for approx 12 months or so, and have always been able to feel my port. My husband seems to think it feels like the tube that runs from the port to the stomach?? Also wondering why you think my band may be to tight? I have a doctors appointment for Sat morning so hopefully he will be able to shed a little light on my situation. Still wondering if anyone else has felt anything weird down and to the right a little of their port??? |

I work 7-8 nights a fortnight as a nurse, and have done since before being banded (in Jan 09). It doesn't cause me too much trouble - my biggest problem is that I feel like eating junk food when at work, and find it hard to stop doing that. I still eat some and have decided that if I lose weight a bit slower then that's ok.
I always take food with me to work ie a small serve of 'dinner' ie rissole or curry/rice or whatever, as I get out of bed and pretty much go straight to work. I also take things like yoghurt, berries, a protein bar (to try and eat as a chocolate bar substitute). I occasionally have a piece of toast. On the way to work I'll have a skinny cap from Maccas.
It is important to make sure you sleep, having a routine is good. I think a lot of nurses do too much during the day at the expense of sleep. I know that people have to take the kids to school etc, but you really need to be o r g ani sed so that there is less to do while doing night shift.
Before I start a run of nights I make sure that I have something cooked that I can take to work and snacks etc available, which lets me get extra sleep. I feel that I have to have sufficient sleep or else I am not safe to do my job. Sleep must be a priority really. If I plan ahead I don't really have many problems. |
