Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Ok... I hardly slept last night, and I am as weary as. I am heading off to have a chat with the sandman.

And for anyone who can remember this morning and my dilemma because I am a biatch sometimes when I drink white wine... I think everything is ok. My friend finally texted me about 8pm to say that she was a bit down and out, but she will chat tomorrow... PHEW!!!!

Thanks for another wonderful day gang. I luves yous all. Don't know where I would be without you all. I am stuck at home for a few weeks with some renovations going on... so I will be here quite a bit I think.

Good Night all... Mel

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Excellent. I made her a three bean salad the other day and tossed some chick peas in it... and some olives and those wee tomato's. Chopped some parsley through it and she ate that for dinner. But she needs more variety... I will keep all these tips. Thanks gang!

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
I must admit that since coming off the mushies, when I was starting on solids, I got some veggie burgers made from chickpeas and they are scrummy. They come in 3 different flavours. I find them in the refrigerator section of the supermarket, near the cream cheese. I keep a pack in the freezer now and if the family are having steak or chops I'll pull one or two of them out for me.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
I daren't have milo in the house, we all like it far too much. I keep telling her that a peanut butter crunchy roll and a banana is a great lunch... but she still is buying salads all the time and eating far too much carbs for a girl with PCOS. She will figure it out for herself I suppose.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Oh Apple... are those vege glutton free sausage rolls available at the supermarket? I am going to go and have a good look for more interesting foods for her. I made her zuchinni & haloumi fritters tonight with a tossed salad, and the other night a vege curry with lots of those tommy tomato's. But I am struggling a bit as this is all new to me since November.

Thanks for the tips!

Some great tips there, thanks! Will check out those things this week and give them a try.

I have made spagetti bolognaise with soy mince, which tasted pretty ok...

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Julie... she has never eaten shellfish of any sort or pork products. Odd - I know ? I have often said she must have been Jewish in a former life. It is strange isn't it how you feed all your kids the same things, but some just will not eat certain parts of the diets that you dish up. She has never eaten them, and never will. But both my boys will eat it all and as much of it as they can get. She loves avocado's... they hate them with a passion. She will eat all salad and veges including brussell sprouts they wouldn't touch them. The mystery of our taste buds. Something else to ponder.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
life with a vegetarian teenager. one in this house who will not eat eggs or tofu. Not because she thinks it is cruel like other stuff but because she hates the stuff.
Best find out there is glutten free vegetarian sausage rolls heaps of protien taste yum even to me and are really low in calories as in 150 calories each large sausage roll.
Oh and of course baked beans, meat for our little vegatarian. Should not forget the so yummy vegetarian bbq sausages I think 3% or less fat from memory even my dededicated male eating other half thinks they are better than real sausages hehehehehe

Mel
Thats no good she wont eat shellfish, that has the good iron (Heme), easily absorbed. The vegetable sources arent so readily absorbed, so try getting her to eat the shellfish! I think it sounds good actually, I have a yearning to become that sort of veggie myself. Only my reasons are animal welfare issues and sentimentality surrounding them. If I had to kill my own meat, no way would I eat it, so I am an eternal hypocrite :(

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Yes, she will eat tinned tuna and white grilled fish! No prawns or shelled fish. All very odd. I had better buy her some iron tabs.

Remember in that movie Notting Hill and there was a girl in it who said she was a fruitarian - but only once it had fallen from the tree so it was already dead... odd. I wonder if that is a true fact. Off I go to google now.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
And my daughter has become a "vegaquarian". I wasn't sure for a moment what it was when she told me one night as I was about to dish up spag bol! It took me a moment to figure it out. I thought, is this a new star sign or is it an activity to do with water!

What next???? I didn't even know that all the vegetarian diets had different varieties.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
I think at 16/17/18 it would be rather hard to coverup your banding when out with friends. You would have to decline pizza, not eat hamburgers and binge drink!!!!!

My friends all know I don't eat bread.... BECAUSE IT CLOGS ME UP!!!! That is my exact wording/excuse when people try and push bread on to me at their house! I then pull two cruskits from my purse!!! :) Once you mention your bowel in a sentence no one asks anymore questions!!

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Mel, I think any debate is healthy whether we agree with it or not as long as it is done in a respectful way. BTW, I have pasted the Bundaberg Bandits site into the Support Groups thread, in the correct alphabetical order, but then it appeared in the wrong order!! :)Toni

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Too true Julie. I think they would have to undergo quite a bit of psycholgical assessment and constant follow up... more than we would probably consider.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Regarding the teenage banding debate - I was thinking also about the discussion. I have no objections to banding from around age 16, depending on maturity of the young person. However, compliancy might be harder for these teens. Peer pressure and natural rebelion might see them eating the wrong things to 'fit in' and not be singled out for having the lapband. As a consequence, slips and other problems might overide the benefits sought after, making the whole practice a waste of time until they were a little older and less influenced?
Just my thoughts..
