Thanks Karen & Donna
Actually also looked at the liquid (no sugar) vitamin I started taking at the weekend...that has sorbitol too. And what has been the vegie / fruit I've been eating most of the time? tomatoes...so yes am a lot less panicky now. Will stop that vitamin supplement & cut down jellies & cordial & ensure I look to more of other vegies.-

| Hi Lin, would say totally normal under the circumstances......... there is nothing firm going in, therefore nothing firm is gunna come out. Nerves and artificial sweetners all add to the mix, if you are worried about an accident, have a little bit of imodium, or talk to your surgical team............ cheers & good luck, Karen |

Hello everyone
I had my urine pre-op test done today and the nurse said their are traces of blood and white blood cells and protein in my urine. She said not to worry about it now and just to get Ural. She recons it could be because of VLC diet at the moment? She said it will be OK if I go to doctor after operation to have it checked out properly.
I am now just a bit scared something might go wrong just before op - like bladder infection - and then I might get sick or something.
Also scared to go to doctor now and then have to get antibiotics and also have problems at op.
Has anyone else experience this - pre-op nurse said it could be the Optifast diet and not to worry about it now?
(My op is on 4 April)
Thanks

Hi all
I've been on optifast for nearly 2 weeks & I'm due to be banded in 2 days.
Since Sunday have had the runs (& a niggling stomach). I didn't eat anything during the day Monday except jelly- thinking it may have been a bug & treating it like you would any gastroish bug (yes keeping the fluids up !!!)
Yesterday went back on optifast & vegies & was fine...but today feel a bit squirmish again. Of course this all could be nerves too. I rang my doctors & dietitian just to see if it's normal but they can't get back to me til later this arvo.
Am posting on this thread as it seems to be busier & someone who has already been banded may have had a similar experience.
I'm just about to go & have some more opti as I am hungry, but would 1st appreciate any ideas / input.
Maybe it could be an effect of having overdone the diet jelly & diet cordial (having about 3-4 jellies a day & for last 3 days have been adding diet cordial to all of my 3 litres of water ...thus causing a laxative effect.-so maybe I'll return to just water & only have a diet jelly once a day)
Thanks heaps

Hi Carol
Not all ER at hospitals can remove fills, for example if I need a fill removed out of hours I have to go to the private hospital where I was banded and they will ring my doctor to come in and remove the fill. The nearest ERs to me in another private hospital and the public hospital don't have anyone experienced that can remove fills, not even in Radiology, so I was told 3 years ago when I was banded whether that's changed or not I don't know. If I went to the ER at a different hospital in the area other than where I was banded they could remove the fill but it would be by a doctor who isn't experienced in doing so and I've heard some terrible stories re tubing being pierced etc by inexperienced doctors giving fills so I personally wouldn't put myself at risk.
I'm having a fill this afternoon so I'll ask if it's possible these days for people in my area to go to the public hospital that is closer to me for an emergency fill removal. |

Sherri,
when you call your surgeons office is there a recorded message with your surgeons emergency contact number or mobile number?
My surgeon doesn't mind calls after hours especially if you are feeling so unwell.
If you want to wait until morning, try chocking yourself up with lots of pillows tonight when you go to bed, so that your less likely to bring anything else up. Avoid anymore fluids etc and in the morning try taking teaspoons at a time of room temp water and see how you feel.
I know it's awful and can feel a bit scary but the main thing is to try and stay as calm as you can, I find when I get myself into a twist the band seems even tighter from me stressing out.
Usually the first few days after having a fill can be a little difficult and you sometimes have to stay with mushies etc but it's eases off after that.
Best of luck and don't be afraid to contact your surgeon they are paid enough trust me.

I had a fill today at 2pm and since 6pm tonight have been throwing up every 30-40mins-its just fluid (spit mainly but heaps of it) but i can't lie down and drink fluids i bring it back up. I only had 1ml put in and everything was fine until tonight. Could there be too much fill in??? I had 3ml put in 3 weeks ago. Will this go or will i have to have some taken out.

| the only thing I can think of - is that it may be wind, caused by eating (drinking too fast).......and you may find that moving onto mushies will help relieve this, or it may make it worse for a little while, just keep an eye on it..............also could be you are hungry??, it takes us new bandits a while to identify "normal" feelings, because of all the healing that has been going on............. make sure you are having enough water, to keep your organs flushed, and enjoy the next phase..... if this becomes painful, always consult your doc. cheers K |

| Hey Mel, What a great idea......... DO buy that jacket, but because it may be cold there, make sure you get it loose, that way you can still wear your jumpers etc underneath, wouldn't want you to catch a cold...... then when you get back, and lose the next few kilo's, I will take the darn old thing off your hands so you don't have to look at it a moment longer, and recall your bigger days..... geez the things I do for friends, sheece I'm so good to you,...... so that's real leather right???? you can keep the gloves...... he he he - xxK |

Hi Mel,
You have no choice but to hang in there, the weight WILL come off when your body is ready, which usually has a differant time frame from what we want. Your body is just making you earn that leather jacket, so you will appreciate it even more.
Push through the dissapontment and refocus.
Im so Jealous, what a wonderful holiday.
Even if you dont get to the goal you wanted why not buy that leather jacket anyway....2 sizes smaller (LOL)
Take care and dont beat yourself up.

Evelyn... Check with your dietitian regarding opti post banding. Some surgeons do not like you using it as it has a thickening thing happening... makes you feel fuller for longer or something. This can cause problems when you are in the early stages. Like Metamucal... don't touch that either.
Every surgeon and dietitian has different ways of doing things, so it is best to go with what yours says to do.
Nat... how long were you on it pre banding, 9kilos was a great effort.

Hi Evelyn,
Hang in there with the opti as it is worth it when you are operated on. Around day 4 you will start to feel better. I visited the Dietian and he called me the "queen" of opti as I lost 9kgs. After I was banded the dietian suggest opti during the liquid stage. At the time it sounded OK but after I was banded and knew I had choices other then opti, ie: broth, toilet water etc. I choose broth. I cant even look at opti at the moment. It is hidden in the depths of my pantry!!!
